Director's cut?

Post by jacobia on Fri Jul 20, 2012 8:52 am

Anyone know if a director's cut of SH movie is coming out? I've read that Christophe Gans had a 200 minute film prior to editing/cutting, and I would love to see the whole thing :ugeek: :D

Director's cut?

Gans has said the original cut was 3 hours long, and then it was chopped down to the 2 1/2 hour runtime that we all saw. He claimed in an interview a couple of years back that there would be a collector's edition with the extra footage released sometime in the near future, but not a peep has been heard since then, so it probably fell through. Maybe if Revelation does well we'll get an extended version of the first film.

I read it on a customer's review of the blu-ray release of SH on amazon.co.uk. And the customer stated that it was rumour. But I hope it's true like the rest of you guys do...I'd have a major fangasm if it happened :D

Director's cut?

Wow! Hope it's true!

There is no problem making a blu-ray with directors cut, the problem is with the owners of the franchise. Is not a title to get a lot of profits like the movie. I have Blade Runner with directors cut and a lot of stuff, but Scott owns everything and he do what he wants! I'm sure Guns and Avary will make it, if possible. Not sure if would be better than the official release. Most of the time, the final cut is better than the directors cut.

I think Donnie Darko is a fine example of how a film's Director's Cut can be better than the first released cut.

I'd be super happy for this, honestly. I could definitely see it happening if the sequel fares well in the cinemas.

I wouldn't mind seeing this either. I don't think I ever saw the extended cut of Donnie Darko, gonna have to check it out.

Director's cut?

I have the Blu-ray that features both cuts. ;)

I watched it before the theatrical, but I've watched both pretty extensively. The extended version does a lot to help explain the plot to people who never read the DVD extras or did the whole internet research thing (like Googling pages of the time travel book to read). There's some extended scenes between Donnie and his family which helps illustrate their relationship a whoooooole lot better. They're are some alternate takes throughout as well (a different take of Drew Barrymore saying "FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK" is the most notable ;) ).

I think the SH movie could benefit from a director's cut (especially if the unused footage helps explain the plot more efficiently. Bring it on, Gans. :D ).

Path of Darkness proves that there was a lot of cut out material, since they show behind the scenes for scenes that weren't in the movie to begin with!

Depending on your region, you may or may not have it (or be missing one chapter of it).

Some regions are missing the "Creature Choreography" part, but you can watch all the parts on Youtube.

I heard somewhere that in the original church slaughter scene it was supposed to be six pyramid heads each wielding a different weapon who was going to massacre the cult but it was changed to dark Alessa and her barbed wires due to budgeting constraints.
I also read somewhere that there was a scene that was shot and cut where Alessa made a group of butterflies fly in an unnatural pattern. It was likely a scene used to show Alessa had psychic powers before her immolation.
