Claudia's Character Design

Post by Heather'sLadder on Tue Jun 05, 2012 5:08 am

Hi Everyon.

I was wondering why everyone was talking about Heather: her character design, her personality, is she a good protagonist, is she a delinquent.....but nobody ever mentioned Claudia. I like Heather's design and personality and all but Claudia's is even more complex. She's even as important to the game as Heather is, considering she's her opposite. And her design proves the ingeniuosness of the character designers in the way they made her focusing on small details - lack of eyebrows, reserved clothes, natural hair, being barefooted - considering her strict religious upbringing. They made her as realistic as Heather is.

I haven't played too many games, but I think that Claudia is more realistic and conventional than any other villain in any other game. She doesn't even realize that she is serving this game as its villain because she's blinded by her ambition, principles, and being devoted to serve the doctrine of the cult and the religious stuff she had learned from her father despite the fact that she had endured merciless cruelty as a child by him.

She wants to redeem people from their sufferings. she wants God to be born so she (God) can create the Paradise that will save everyone. She wants salvation at any cost. Even if that meant to destroy this world and create a better new one.

In this, she reminds me of Marcus Brutus who was a noble roman and the only one among the conspirators to kill Caesar - even though he loved him - for the general good of Rome rather than out of jealousy - like the other conspirators. He ened up committing siucide to maintain his honour and to relieve Caesar's soul. And what Claudia did was kind of similar. She loved Alessa (Mother of God) and was like her sister and whatnot, but she knew that to birth God, Alessa has to die, and maybe not only Alessa. It's though. It's cruel, but someone has to do it for the salvation and eternal happiness.

I also would like to mention that Donna Burk did a great job in voicing her character and doing the motion capture for her. Her work on Claudia was as outstanding as Heather Morris' work on Heather. I liked the aura of mystique she gave to Claudia. Donna also did a great job working on Angela. She's my favourite character in Silent Hill 2.
So if you have any opinnion on Claudia, her character and design or even Donna for that matter, I would like to know it.

But anyway, I just wanted this to be some kind of a tribute to the Awesome Claudia.
PS. sorry if there are any spelling or grammatical mistakes.

Claudia's Character Design

I don't know if 'realistic' is a term I'd apply to her. She's a stereotypical fanatic who embodies every overzealous religious cliche you can think of. She's got to be my least-favorite character in the series. Even Dahlia, who is just as much of a cartoon character in this regard as Claudia is, is redeemed by the fact that she's actually interesting, thanks to her being pretty damned devious.

In fact, Claudia resembles another game's villain in a lot of ways:

The primary difference being that Claudia looks a bit more like a man.
The above post is intended to be factual, unless it isn't.

Why does everyone hate Claudia?
I adore her. I don't know why, but maybe because I sympathize with her. She wants to do a good thing for everyone, her intention is good, not like Dahlia who is just pure evil. Also I always laugh at Dahlia's necktie. But I like the mysterious air about those two characters. And by "realistic" I meant that she looks like real humans with her clothes and all and I liked the lack of eyebrows, it's not strange but makes her look unique. I loved Donna's motion capture for her.

^Same. I love her (character-wise) and her character design. Definitely one of the most memorable villains, hope they do her right in the movie.

I loved her character design... I'll spoiler tag this... just in case

REVEAL SPOILER
Because although she was the primary antagonist, I couldn't help feel sorry for her.. especially because of the abuse she took from her father, which probably fuelled her desire to create paradise... I don't hate her by any means and I'm probably one of many people who didn't mind that she outwardly killed Vincent (he was a major douche)

She was interesting in that even though she was the game's antagonist, she wasn't really "evil" nor was her intent truly to bring people suffering or anything. The problem with her is that, like you said, she was blinded by her ideals and brainwashed from an early age due to the intense emotional scarring that she endured. Pretty tragic how it all played out, really.

Yeah. I think she's an updated version of Dahlia. I thought most of people hate her because she killed Harry - well not killed him, but ordered the missionary to kill him. I love Harry, and was sad because he was killed, I even mourned him. Really . But he was a goner anyway. lol

This is a little off topic, but thinking of Claudia made me think of something... Does Douglas screen any of his clients? Paycheck before ethics: it's the American way ;)

"Is it so hard to believe that sympathy could be born out of pain and suffering?..... Why do you reject God's mercy?..... Why do you cling to this corrupt world?"
If Claudia were a real cult leader, I would be one of her followers.

I feel really bad for Claudia. She was vulnerable from her father's abuse and latched onto the cult and just let it sweep her out of touch with reality. Despite being the antagonist of the game, I don't think she was evil at all. She was just very impressionable and couldn't think for herself.

Indeed! I've used the 'I was only following orders' excuses more than once.
I liked Claudia, then again I tend to get along well with crazy chicks since I'm 'certifiable'.

Yeah, I like crazy people, too, especially those "certifiable" ones. They're interesting and funny. But I don't think Claudia is crazy. She's a cult genius. Dhalia was crazy, and it was amusing to make fun of her. I think that Claudia knew that God is evil and won't bring that perfect Paradise she (Claudia) was talking about, but she did't want to believe this, and we know why.
