Fantastic question. I think most of us can agree that the OST was solid from top to bottom, but If I were to pick one or two songs I'd have to go with "Theme of Laura" first and foremost, followed by "Promise (Reprise)". Both were truly satisfying, and to this day I still listen to them quite frequently.

Overdose Delusion and Love Psalm are my favorites off the Silent Hill 2 OST.

Although out of all the OSTs my favorite one would be either Homecoming's or Shattered Memories.

I haven't heard any of Downpour's yet, so I have absolutely no idea what the new guy is like. I hope he's good, I really do. Although I've heard good things about him.

Most likely "True" just because I learned it on the piano XD. Another fav of mine would have to be Laura Plays Piano, or whatever the track is actually called.

I could refere "Promise" , "Overdose Delusion" and many others but my favourite one is Love Psalm. It's hard to explain why. I first heard it on the end of Born from a Wish, the sub scenario that I've played, back in 2003 without finishing the main game. I was crazy but the images from the credits made me imagine their meaning on the story... the best part is that they had nothing to do with what I imagined! Love Psalm got stuck in my head since that day... just like the preview from Love Psalm from Book of Memories is stuck in my head since I've first heard it...

Well... all this to tell that Love Psalm rules... when it's about Silent Hill I usually talk too much! hehe

What? I thought Angel's Thanatos was the song that played during the credits at the end o.o

It depends on the ending you get. Overdose Delusion plays on the "Leave Ending", The Reverse Will on "Rebirth Ending", Promise plays on "Maria Ending"and Angel's Thanatos on "In Water ending".

I didn't include UFO and Dog endings... I guess I'm not missing anything

Love the song it amps me up and wires me, it's a very powerful piece.

I also like 'Letters'. James talks like a badass in the scene as well. Bonus points. Doesn't anybody else love the Dog Song? So awesome.

I like the whole OST. But Laura Plays the Piano, the Reverse Will, and Block Mind, along with True and Magdalene are some of the most emotional. Oh and Day of Night.

I can't pick one....

I've recently become quite infatuated with 'The Sacred Line' from Homecoming. I do believe that is now my favourite Silent Hill song to date. It's just so captivating, at least It is for me.

The day of night. easily, that song... is the most sad,eerie,relaxing and nostalgic piece of heavenly made music i ever heard in my entire life, and it was on the top of my most listened to songs list for a very long time.

despite i LOVE all the soundtrack that one song is one of my all time favorites from all the silent hill soundtracks. my secong favorite from 2 is Magdalene , simple yet amazing.

yeah... IMHO homecoming has the best vocal tracks in the series along with room of angel.

It's hard to single one out because each one of the songs has a different, special and inrtriguing melody. I don't mind listening to them any time because they're so emotional and you can't help but feel something when you listen to Akira Yamaoka's music, but here are my favorite songs.
No. 1) has to be Promise(reprise). I like the sweet sound of the piano combined with the creepy hollow sounds. It sounds mysterious, and it reminds me of Angela (my favorite character in SH2).
2) Letters(rare OST) - the one from YouTube - and Laura Plays the Piano. These two pieces are so nostalgic and intriguing, especially when you hear them during the cutscenes in the game.
3) Alone in the Town. Just because I like it, and I think everyone does.
4) Theme of Laura and Promise. Two sad and forlornly hopeful melodies. They would make great songs if they had lyrics.
5) Heaven's Night and Null Moon. Make you feel like you're intoxicated and seeing a hazy, sentimental, sweet dream. Also they remind me of Maria who is James' dream. She's born from his wish.
6) True, Theme of Laura (reprise) and Fermata in Mystic Air. They are just so sad. They remind me of feelings of grief and oppression of which you feel while thinking of a sorrowful memory.
But I like the whole soundtrack. Akira did an amzing job on it, not to mention that he composed other soundtracks for the other Silent Hill games which are just as awesome as this ST.

Laura Plays the Piano is my favorite story track, Ghosts and Ashes is my favorite environmental track.
Theme of Laura (Reprise) is a good track for some shameful self-loathing.
Pianissimo Epilogue is great for the resolution of said self-loathing.

Love Psalm, just because it's a cool song.

Day of Night is very nostalgic. It takes me back to memories of warm, peaceful locations from my childhood.

Laura Plays the Piano because it has a solemn sound to it. It reminds me of the ashes settling after a fire.

Also, this:

It makes me feel peaceful and warm, it's a comforting song to me despite some people saying it sounds eerie.

Oh yeah, that is a nice piece. Too bad it's not on the soundtrack

Actually, I think it sounds a bit tragic...
