I thought Downpour was well received by fans.

Like I said, it wasn't universally well-received. That doesn't mean that fans didn't like it, it just wasn't unanimous (as proven by rollerfan222's post and several other posts on the forum).

I think it won overall. I was a little disappointed, but it was just scads better than Origins and Homecoming. Most people who have played all three agree. I don't know if I like it or SHSM more, though.
The only difference between savage and sophisticated is the proper seasoning.

Q. Valintyne wrote:Well, Homecoming is your favorite (obviously) so your opinion will be biased towards it. No big deal, really. ;)

I didn't see the game emulating what TwinPerfect wanted at all. It did start a new continuity of sorts (in order to avoid possible retcons), but that's the only thing that comes to mind as to doing what TP wanted. As you can very well read and see, Downpour was not universally well received by critics or fans. Some fans have seemed to really enjoy Downpour (myself included) and it did do things differently than the Team Silent games. To say otherwise is pretty bold. Do you slide down a slippery slope in any other Silent Hill games? Do other Silent Hill games have side quests? I could go on, but I don't want to talk too much.

homecoming was in my opinion a step in the good direction and it did had its few flaws (technically speaking) but it was overall a great silent hill game on its own merits for being the first attempt at a silent hill game by a new developer.

I hate to be a meanie butt, but ( ) Climax developed Origins before Double Helix developed Homecoming.

Im aware of that, i was saying that in the sense of double helix making a game for a series they had never worked before on, not that it was the first non-team silent game. and i know climax never worked on silent hill before either, but i haven't played it so i can't judge.

I don't think Downpour was that wonderful, but one of the things I did like about it was the combat. Homecomings combat was awful and I couldn't even finish the game until I downloaded a save file to give me that laser gun. I suck at combat and always play the action level on easy.

I don't know whether it revitalizes the survival horror genre as a whole.

What I do know, is that I found it to be a very worthy Silent Hill title, which was very true to the franchise and the overall gameplay that comes with it, so in that regard it did give us that old school experience, while implementing quite a few new things as well.

Other games with the survival horror label these days tend to be more like FPS action games with a jump scare here and there.

And you are right in my opinion WhiteClaudia.

By the way, I was pleasantly surprised how long this story was. One other of its more old school qualities is you ask me ;)

We need more games like this. Survival horror is the best genre imo. Its tense, nerve wrecking, exciting, interesting & ultimately engaging. Survival horror provokes an emotional response from the player few genres can.

Так жалко что Vatra распалась. А ведь студия подавала надежды. Думаю было бы классно увидеть тандем из Тим сайлент и ватры. Они бы вместе вернули бы Silent Hill к жизни.

That's an interesting point. Ito has expressed interest in working with future developers on Silent Hill games, so it's possible that we may one day seen members of the elusive team working on the games again.

I think Vatra disbanding is still in the rumor stage (unless it's been confirmed elsewhere). I hope so. :/

Ito now except Drawing covers nothing more to Silent Hill does not. In my he understands that the project is dead and out of the squeezed out every last drop. So he refused to cooperate with Vatra and also refused to help Bassett with his film when he suggest to do creature design for SHR. Sadly of course admit it, but the series seems to be closed. I am sorry that I do not write in English, unfortunately not a great expert in your language. Nevertheless, you understand. Izvenyayus for offtopic, but how do you know Russian? Are you from Russia?

I don't think Downpour revitalised anything. BUT it keeps horror fresh.
Silent Hill is the only series that keeps horror being HORROR these days at least a little bit. All others dropped out and went with action.

Exactly why I don't use Google Translate. You can't trust online translators because they're only direct word-for-word translations. They don't account for grammar or slang.

I don't believe the series is dead though. Despite some believing that Downpour was an abomination of a game, I still thought it was a great Silent Hill game. As long as we keep buying the games, they won't stop making them. There are is a large percentage of the fanbase who are very vocal about their distaste for the new games, but there is still another large portion who makes it clear that they still like the series and will be sticking with it.

People took DP off face value like they do with every new SH game. 1st impressions u can't help but think the combat sucks but u get used to it it. With the media, along with the lag it sticks out as a notable flaw & determines their judgement for the rest of the game.

Im guilty of hating it but now I love it. It doesnt revitalise sadly but its a breath of fresh air in a stale industry. Fuckin sick of these action heavy whores dominating attention .
