My anime/Japanophile phase ended after I played MGS4 (western folks expressing themselves like they're Japanese. Wtf). So, I am a bit biased. If this weren't the case, however, Silent Hill is not something I would want to sound like an anime.

Not all "dubbed" anime is bad. Shows like Cowboy Bebop, Trigun, and Black Lagoon are proof of that. I'd take the new SH2 voices any day over the old ones, but I'd prefer the original SH3 voices to the new ones (the new ones aren't bad at all, but original Heather took the cake overall.)

I know what you mean NarooN but the way previous people made it sound is that "it's like listening to anime" it's like listening to original voices.

I think I'm onto two things here: 1) first people secretly love new voices

2) there's hatred towards japanese language.

It's mostly just a matter of personal preference. And yeah, I agree with that, Naroon.

Ah, I see what you guys mean now. In any case:

The day someone tries to tell me that the "original" Japanese voices for this show are better than the English dub, worlds will explode. To further bring the point home of how the Eng dub is better, is how the main characters are all actually speaking English in the show's world anyway (Revy is Chinese-American, Rock is a Japanese businessman who could translate languages, Dutch is African-American, and Benny is Jewish-American).

Feel free to check out more clips of the amazing Japanese voice overs lol. Plus the Eng voices just suit the characters much better as well. You don't get to say that for a lot of animes out there.

... Is it just me, or is, "Dutch," a strange name choice for an African-American?

It's just his nickname, no one knows what his real name is. Just like how many people didn't know Revy's real name was "Rebecca" until another character in the show called her that lol. Dutch keeps much of his past and personal life secret.

Nothing wrong with anime dub, everythings wrong when its applied to SH though.
Sure, the originals had traces here and there, but the new ones seem to emphasise much on unrealistic tones and sometimes the voices sound to "Forced".
This is one of the things i loved about Heather Morris, her voice acting sounded very natural compared to this new chick.

Now that I've watched that clip (my phone doesn't do video well, so I just don't do it), I give four - five minutes before the cops arrive to investigate the weapons discharge that the whole block just called 911 about
But yeah, the english dub can be way better than the original Japanese. In fact, I've become suspicious over the years that Japanese actors might not be that good...

I feel this way about the original voices for SH2. I thought SH3 was a dramatic improvement (which is one reason I'm surprised they were not included in the HD Collection). I've still yet to play SH3 on the HD Collection (because I've heard so many negative things about its playability).

In all honesty, I'm curious as to how SH 4 would've been cast.

^Agreed. A recasting for SH4 wouldn't have hurt at all.

Especially for Joseph. Good God. I might make a thread about who should be cast in a SH 4 redub, but I'm not sure who I'd pick.

Like i said, the original definitely had traces but the new ones aren't an improvement at all, it's more like a "what if" type of change.
And yeah, it would be interesting to see a recast of SH4, although i consider Eileen the second best VA in the series, after Heather of course.
I mean really, this is some good stuff.

Henry does succeed in being boring as fuck though. :?

Whether or not it is a true improvement is totally subjective. I think it's more interesting to look at it this way:
Do the new voices effectively subtract from the quality of the game?

I don't think that case could be made for SH2. It could be made for the portions of SH3 that I've seen, but it still doesn't make the game bad by voices alone.

You can always watch the HD walkthrough on Youtube.

Why would I do that? I have it. I don't want to play it or see it, really. I fear it would ruin my memories of it until I could actually get through it myself.

Some could make the argument that same stance on visual graphics. *wink*

I will admit that I look at both graphics and audio when it comes to deciding the caliber and quality of a media--but the HD collection unfortunately does not offer enough of one to balance the other. The new VAs drop the quality of the games and the "improved" visuals do not offer enough to make up for that hit the VAs deliver.
1) Most people are not playing the HD Collection on true HDTVs. If you are, then yeah. You can really see and appreciate the subtle differences. But if you are not playing on a HDTV, you cannot possible see any difference outside increased contrast and color saturation.
2) The HD Collection's "HD" is only 720p. That is not the current HD standard. The current HD standard is 1080p. The HD Collection is not true HD.

It is just an attempt by Konami to cash in on the 2 most popular SH games, again, after the last few games did not pull in enough cash to keep the hype up. That said, hey-- I may eventually buy the HD Collection once the patches are finished and I actually have a HDTV. Until then, I'll continue to lug out my PS2 and throughly enjoy the stellar VAs and graphics.

Oh i never said the horrible voices alone make the games bad, they're just an annoyance imo And yeah, that was one of my fears too because SH3 is so close to my heart  but my experience with the HD collection didn't affect my past experiences with these games, it just made the nostalgia grow stronger.

I completely disagree on the visual standpoint, the graphics are subpart to the originals. As far as; the shadows, most of them are gone, depth of field is gone, the "shine" effect is gone, that on top of the horrendous sound design, just makes for an overall terrible experience and not at all like what the original developers intended it to be.

Not really. 720p is still the lowest resolution accepted as an HD resolution, therefore it's HD. There's no such thing as "full HD" or anything like that because resolutions which surpass 1080p have existed for ages now. There are still many TV shows and channels which don't even output at 1080p, only doing so in 720p and/or 1080i.

Heck, some TV shows are still broadcast in 480p.

"Full HD" is just a marketing gimmick for people who don't understand what HD is.

If I remember correctly *checks to see that he does*, a little less than half of the HD collections are in 720p max.

*finally watches the mothersdecent's clip* Wow, Henry is almost as bland as Harry.
