I never noticed this until now, but does anyone find it odd that Midwich has no kitchen or cafeteria? It has bathrooms, a locker room, an infirmary, a teacher's lounge, even a courtyard! However, there are no traces of a kitchen or a cafeteria. :\

It's weird that there isn't one just because even Alchemilla has a kitchen. Where do the kids eat? Do they bring their own lunch and eat it in class? Very strange.

its an old fashioned school so the whole "bring their own lunch and eat it in class" is a plausible explanation, but indeed it is strange...

kudos on noticing, i never did until reading this :ooh:

I noticed it on Gary's Mod. xD Someone made a Midwich map and they went into a kitchen area and I thought, "There's no kitchen." :sillywink:

Actually, the big room in the northeast corner of Midwich is the cafeteria. It's called Hall for some reason. The same thing goes to SH2's Lakeview Hotel on the second floor room label Hall.
When spring arrives, the infamous fog rolls off Toluca Lake and into Silent Hill.

Still, it doesn't have to have one. My elementary school didn't have a cafeteria either.

Tbh, I never felt that something was missing. :D The place as a whole gave me a weird feeling though. I think it's one of the best/most Silent Hill-ish areas.

O.o whoa it's true, there isn't a cafeteria in Midwich, they even had a boiler room n stuff, maybe they ate lunch outside or something, and hungry dogs often bothered Alessa and that kinda freaked her out? lol

I know of a few older schools that don't have them. Particularly elementary schools.

To be honest, I never really noticed. I guess I was too focused on making it through the game alive. But not all schools have cafeterias, so I am not super shocked about this. The elementary school I attended didn't have a cafeteria.

XDDDDD

Never really thought about this before, but I guess there is one after all. I don't think I'd send my kids to that school though, or even live in that town at all for that matter.

Especially the transition to the otherworld. Silent Hill 1 in general had the best otherworld transitions in the series. The special effects that they were later able to do are a disadvantage, in my opinion. The school, for me, was terrifying because those mumblers gave me nightmares. I mean, literally. They got so bad that they started sprinting after me and had whip-like extensions to their arms to trip their victim in chase.

Noisy monsters were also a disadvantage to the series, scary-wise. I love that Downpour has gone back to quiet monsters.

Heh heh, but I digress.

I figure that the kiddies would probably eat from brown sacks of home lunch at their desks.

Anyone from Japan here? I don't know if it's a custom at all for kids to eat their lunch at an elementary school there so they might not have considered putting in an actual kitchen. When I was a kid, I went home for lunch and although it was possible for kids to stay in school during lunch because both their parents worked or they lived too far from school etc they would simply bring their own lunch and eat it in a sort of hall at school and that's the way it works [or at least worked] in most school here [in the Netherlands], they may have lunch there but there won't be a kitchen. For some reason in the US it's very normal for kids to have 2 hot meals in 1 day but I think it's one of the few countries this is actually common.

I remember seeing a few Japanese Animes back in the day where the students were eating packed lunches at their desks.

Yeah I've seen that as well. I dunno if there's any places over here in the States that did that, but there probably was. None of my schools did that, there were always cafeterias.
