They're hard to comprehend in SC, too. :D

I have a couple of friends that absolutely love them. I introduced a good bit of my friends to SH (for better or worse).

Both in Australia and in Washington I knew people who played Silent Hill, so no, I don't feel like that. I've even brought a couple new people into the series.

I don't think there's anyone in the tri-town area that as into it as I am. For the most part, the die-hards are rather wide spread. I see what you're saying.

It looks like things are getting too spicy for the pepper.

I don't know. It's not really the sort of thing I'm prone to bring up in casual conversation.
The above post is intended to be factual, unless it isn't.

Most off my friends tell me I gay for playing games like Silent Hill, Alan Wake, Dead Space, etc.. so they aren't into it, also take into thought I'm a basketball player so many athletes only play sports games

I have a few buddies at Gamestop, most of which all say that the survival horror genre just isn't a big demand. I use to love Call of Duty, Halo, and Left4Dead- I just lost the interest in basic campaigns; Modern Warfare 2 is a classic, and all the Halo's are usually amazing. I just lost interest in them sorts of games, but I'm not in to rpgs either. Anybody like that?

i think silent hill fans are a very select group of people with a very select taste ( in a good way ) compared to other "fan bases". of other franchises.

Also i think its hard for people to understand what silent hill is all about, i mean not everyone is gonna even try to understand it, i have a few friends who are like yeah its cool but really could not care less, 2 or 3 who have asked to explain them more about it cause they're interested in the series but then get bored of it, and some who think its boring because they think all you do is walk around looking for stuff and im like *facepalm*...

But everybody has their preferences and you can't force them to like what you like, but im proud to be a silent hill fan even if im alone. and im happy to have this community to discuss everything i would want to discuss with a friend if he or she liked silent hill.

I never talk about it either especially since, you know, I think the series' best days are long over. I wouldn't call myself a gamer either. My interest in Silent Hill is more from a technical standpoint these days, which is really weird telling people that I like this game because of its art direction, look, feel, and sound design. To me playing SH is more akin to watching a film. It is more about the experience than actually playing a game, especially when it comes to SH2.

I like how SH takes you into this little world. It's all about living in these little worlds for a little while to me. That may sound incredibly pretentious, but that is where my interest in the series is at.

I'm with you on this. There is so much more to Silent Hill than just the game aspect. The original design and concept of Silent Hill was genius, they created this cult background for the town, and it was full of mystery.

Some people will be drawn in, and other's won't find it interesting. Then they will only see the game for what it is, a survival horror video game.

We're all here because we've delved deeper into Silent Hill, it's like we've all been drawn into the town like the protagonists. It's a sign of respect to the series and the developers creativity in creating a (for it's time, the original SH1) a master piece in video gaming.

I'm not much of a gamer like I used to be, a bit of travelling and money saving will do that to a person. I don't often discuss games with people, but if I do, most people know about SH. I think the movie helps elevate the video games into the mainstream, more people are aware that it is based on a game.

Most people I talk to either haven't heard of it or have only heard of / seen the movie. Most of my friends aren't gamers, though (at least, not my offline friends).

So far I've only met one other person in my town that know's and like's Silent Hill. So I sometimes feel I'm the only one in my town.

About 90% of the people I know socially say that Silent Hill sucks. The only people that really like the series tend to say that either 2 or 3 are their favorites. One friend only likes SH1. Two agree with me that 4 is their favorite.

In school, especially middle and then high school, I was pretty much the only person to have even heard of the games. Usually, I'd wear something that had something to do w/ Silent Hill and friends would ask me about it but after awhile, I just stopped explaining it because it was hard to explain. Most of my friends tended to be the "church-y" kids that would freak out whenever I'd start explaining the plot line of the first game.

Then the movie came out and I hate random people stopping me, this was during my Senior year, and telling me how much the movie sucked. I usually didn't say much to them because, well yeah, the movie did kind of suck. But then I realized that people thought that the games were based off the movie and thus the entire series sucked. I just put everything away until high school ended so that I wouldn't have to keep having the same conversation over and over again.

Now, people see me online and right away know I am a Silent Hill fan and if they do bring it up, I issue a single warning: I am a life-long fan and quite rabid at that. I get a 50/50 response. XD

I've a relatively new colleague at work who seemed quite reserved. So one day, when the opportunity arose to work together, we got chatting and I discovered she liked horror films but had never seen the Silent Hill movie, although she knew it was based on video games. So, I offered to lend her the dvd, but discovered it was going to be on the tv a few nights later. She's watched it, loved it, told me she's got a PS2, and tomorrow I'm lending her Silent Hill 2, 3 and 4 to play. Ahh, my work is done :)
