If he was barely or not involved with it, he'd have no say over its development. That's all on Konami and Hijinx, not him, no matter how close he is to the original games. He can speak for himself, but I want to say he probably had his hands full with pushing Downpour out the door and continuing along with Book of Memories.

It still doesn't excuse the fact that he was the senior associate producer and he didn't AT LEAST check in on the project.
And i also find it interesting that he also did a walkthrough-preview a while before the release of the collection but still didn't acknowledge the issues.

Ok after reading everything after my latest post .... All I've got to say is that It's not the fans fault that this game is broken in so many places so you can't blame us for our "cynicism" about a patch. By the way has anyone heard if this patch if for both consoles because contrary to what konami believes the Xbox 360 version is broken in several places as well.

You're only fooling yourself if you imagine the fanbases of series like MGS and God of War would have reacted any differently had the HDCs of those games been butchered anywhere as badly this one of Silent Hill. That said, I doubt anyone is holding a gun to your head to make you keep working on Silent Hill, or even in the game industry in general, eh?

Ratiocinator wrote:If he was barely or not involved with it, he'd have no say over its development.

According to the credits, he was the senior associate producer on the HDC, second to the top name in the credits, which signifies significant involvement in overseeing development.

Believe/take what I said about his involvement however you want. It's not important for me to prove.

Anyway; Konami's press release:

April 25th, 2012 wrote:KONAMI ANNOUNCES UPCOMING PATCHES FOR SILENT HILL DOWNPOUR AND HD COLLECTION
New online patch will correct frame rate and audio synch issues

Today, Konami Digital Entertainment, Inc. announced that online patches for both Silent Hill Downpour and Silent Hill HD Collection are currently in development and will be released soon.

Understanding the issues some users are experiencing, development teams are currently creating online patches for both games, which will fix the frame rate issues, the audio-synching in Silent Hill HD Collection, and the Auto-Save issues in Silent Hill Downpour. Players have voiced their concerns, and solutions to these issues will be fixed and launched in the coming weeks.

Patches for Silent Hill Downpour and Silent Hill HD Collection will be made available on both XBOX®Live Arcade and PlayStation®Network.

Hopefully this patch will come with SH3's original voice-work.
SH2 has it, SH3 must have it.

Perhaps, Mr.Hulett needs to clarify his statements in this thread. The fans are certainly not to blame in this instance. This is about technical issues that ruin timeless classics.

It's very recent, way after that old patch.

edit: After reading the new replies (was wondering why this thread blew up, instantly knew it wasn't gonna be too good), just meh. At least they finally announced a patch for this, but it's not like the whole internet won't stop with the all the hate.

They also didn't mention whether they would fix the fog issues and bring back the post-processing fx and whatnot. We'll see.

Associate producers do not oversee entire game projects; they only look after one aspect of them. In Tomm's case, it was the sound design or voicework (I'm not sure which).

You're only fooling yourself if you imagine the fanbases of series like MGS and God of War would have reacted any differently had the HDCs of those games been butchered anywhere as badly this one of Silent Hill. Considering that the fanbase of this series declares that the game is absolute utter shit the instant it's announced--I remember GREAT skepticism the instant we got the first teaser with blond!Murphy--I can't blame Tomm for wanting that. They say "hey, we're putting out another patch to fix this" and instead of "I hope it fixes this" it's met with "UGH THIS GAME SUCKS HOW DARE THEY".

Pretty much that. This fanbase is overly cynical and pessimistic in general. The moment the next SH game gets announced, you'll hear the usual "OMFG SIRNT HIRR IZ DED" drivel yet again.

Tomm didn't say it's our fault, all he said is that we're cynical bastards, which is true.

Thanks for the post Tomm, it was overdue but that was probably Konami and I'm sure if you had any news you would've posted about it sooner. I don't expect all the issues to be fixed, but the lag and lip-syncing would be much, much appreciated. I would love to recommend the HD collection to people, so hopefully after the patch it'll be in a good state and I'll be able to.

@Yuki and Astro: There's also a time and a place. Is the majority of the fandom "cynical" or bigoted? In my experience--whether it's for or against the new games--yes. But there is also a time and a place. The HD collection, when being compared to the Metal Gear Solid HD Collection, is a total joke. The games were released a decade ago and they covered their seams and had less problems than these supposed improvements. The people here have every reason in the world to be upset and I don't post much but from what I have seen, people are posting legitimate problems instead of "omfg i hate this shit". So to pretty much chalk it up to it all being that by posting that we're cynical in a thread that is entirely Konami's fault is completely wrong to me. Again, he hasn't elaborated but on a base level it's really assholey.

I have never thought "SIRNT HIRR IZ DED" infact, I love Downpour, and I quite enjoyed Homecoming. I just feel like Konami doesn't care about the community or the series as a whole. In fact, with Downpour I feel like there is even more interesting life in the series than there has been since SH3. I just wish Konami would pay more attention to their fans.

I think the context of my comment is being seriously misunderstood.

(EDIT: I was not claiming it was unreasonable to be mad about HD Collection. I was confirming the validity of the message in the OP and lamenting the fact fans refused to believe good news)

With Konami highly absent on the matter until now

This entire thread is ABOUT the Konami response. Yet almost all the initial reactions are "yeah right" "I'll believe it when I see it" "doubtful" etc. I scanned the internet this morning to see if the official announcement had gone out yet, and I found this same reaction to the Customer Support EMail all across the web. Note that the fanbase was going so far as to speculate this was an outdated automated response in order to go on being angry. That's kind of the definition of cynicism, and it isn't constructive.

There are tons of people working hard to get this patch done, to fix your complaints. Yeah, it sucks HD Collection had issues... so you're going to get mad when "Konami" does the right thing? None of this is happening becaues you got ANGRY and PISSED and YELLED about it. It's happening because there were problems that you made known were widespread and important. Negativity/cynicism accomplishes nothing. In fact it makes it harder to fix things because people can just shrug and say "you know that crazy SH fanbase!"

We all know there were issues. But when you GET WHAT YOU WANT (a Konami statement about a patch in progress) ...it's cynical to essentially ignore it, and pretty frustrating for the people who are trying to take care of your complaints.

I think the complaints about the HD collection are perfectly valid, and I even encourage them so long as it remains broken, but it's completely true that as a whole the community is very negative, especially the old fans. I don't see the point of Tomm's post, but he wasn't blaming it on the fans, he was more wishing for a fanbase that doesn't feel hatred and cynicism as a natural reaction to everything that happens.

@Tomm: Thank you for elaborating. The fans that really do appreciate the fixes will be pretty obvious to spot.

@astro: Maybe I'm wrong, but I have this theory that things are gonna flip. The old fans have been crazy ever since Silent Hill 1/2, but now that there's an equal amount of new games as there are old, I think the new fans are going to start acting the same way with the old games (i.e. "Silent Hill 2 is a piece of shit compared to Downpour" rather than "I like DP more than SH2 because..."). Like I said maybe I'm wrong, but I think I'm onto something. haha And yeah, it's hard enough for fellow fans to deal with people that make the series unfun; I can't even imagine having to work on the games that they actively trash.

Tomm, the game was released unfinished, and the community is mad. You would get mad if you bought a car with no seats, you would get mad if you bought a sandwich with no bread. Why should it be any different for a game? For any game. Not just Silent Hill.

First, as I explained, my post was not asking "why are you guys so mad geez?"

Second, yeah you'd be mad. But if you called up the restaurant and said "my sandwich had no bread" you'd be a lot more likely to get a free sandwich if you were calm than if you screamed at them "HOW COULD YOU SELL ME A SANDWICH WITH NO BREAD SERIOUSLY WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU THAT'S NOT EVEN A SANDWICH."

Personally, I can sympathize with the people who doubted the patch (probably because I was one of them), its been over a month without a word, and a patch was already released to address the issues, then afterwards there was no more communication. Plus the issues are pretty blaring and from someone who doesn't create games, my intuition would lead me to believe that considering all the problems it would be naive to be filled with confidence about the prospect of a relatively small patch fixing everything. However, having you post here and interact with the community, even if neither side is very happy, is comforting because I know that we're not being ignored so that eventually we get bored and stop complaining so the HD collection can be forgotten. Seeing some random person get a possibly outdated, or just lying, vague automated response doesn't do much for me, but seeing you post here acknowledging the issues does.

Having the game fixed is one thing, but feeling like I'm getting screwed is what really annoys me.

That is what is happening. I just don't see how a product like this from a company as prestigious as Konami could be shipped this way. On the positive side, you are on this forum, which impresses the hell out of me, and you are responding to posts, and you seem to care. I am glad to hear a patch is coming. Thank you for Origins.
