Why don't they drop the price of this game?

Post by Harry Mason on Mon Apr 16, 2012 9:16 am

Are they keeping it at $39.99 in case people who have yet to read about how bad the game is decide to buy it?

Shattered Memories on PS2 started at $19.99 when everyone knew it was a base version of the Wii game. This HD game should not be priced this high with all of the glitches it has.

Don't count on it. It's not going to drop in price anytime soon. Perhaps it will catch a sale with certain retailers at some point, but you're gonna be waiting a while for a price drop.

And can anyone else confirm if Shattered Memories was indeed twenty bucks on PS2 when it first came out? Because despite buying it new I somehow can't even remember how much it sold for.

Wrong answer, bud. I pre-ordered Shattered Memories to get the soundtrack at Gamestop and it was indeed $29.99.

I would guess that the price hasn't dropped is because there a business they want to get the most amount of money as they can.

I bought Shattered Memories at the same place and for the same price, and I bought it several weeks after release.
The above post is intended to be factual, unless it isn't.

They should take the game off the shelves and re-release it when its not in beta anymore. They already lost a lot on HDC.

I agree with this. I haven't played it myself, but from the sounds of it it desperately needs fixing.

They probably won't pull it because they might not even be working on a patch. However, some dude over at GFAQs claimed that he heard from an "inside source" that Konami is working on a patch and they don't wanna say anything until it's ready to release, and that they're trying to fix everything that's wrong with it, but anyone could've just made that up. Take it with a grain of salt, but it might be true.

A patch won't fix half the problems with the HDC. Silent Hill 2's atmosphere is completely ruined. Everything is too clean, the new voice acting is sub par, the lip synching is off, and there's tons of glitches, not too mention graphical issues. 3 is suffering not from voice acting so much as texture glitches, bad sound editing, and more. This needs to be taken off the shelf. It was so bad Amazon refunded a lot of money and told users to throw HDC as it was "defective". I think HDC is an embarassment to Konami and their biggest blunder.

What Xuch said, and also because I don't think they're really publicly admitting it's defective at all. On the FB page they've just been telling everyone it's great and to go buy it. And what onefreeman said. They're a company and want to make money.

They *could* fix just about everything with a patch, it's just whether or not they wanna spend that much money. You have all the issues we all know about, so I won't list them, each of those would take quite some time to work on. There's no way it'd be some 1 or 2 week patch like a lot of people seem to think. Konami would have to pay for all of the dev labor, then even when the patch was "done", they'd need to test the fuck out of it to make sure (something they seemed to not do on the HDC itself before it went gold).

After that, Konami would need to spend even more money to upload said patch to PSN (as low as $40,000) and XBL (no idea on amount here, I just know they charge for data as well). Then if they wanted to try to fix it completely, recall the game temporarily and have the game re-pressed so these versions ship with the patches pre-installed, which would cost even more money.

So it's basically, either they spend a fuckload of money doing a mega-patch and re-pressing and shipping the games again, or just do damage control and try to ignore it all.

And clearly, the latter would seem most likely since they aren't talking about it. I won't rule anything out, but I didn't buy the HDC anyway, so it's no problem for me lol.

I notice it disappearing off of store shelves. I wonder if Konami will just stop production on the game after its initial sales (suckers like me hoping for some decent nostalgia) and just phase out the HD collection quietly.

for all you peeps ragging on HDC, why buy it just to come here and dis it? tons of peeps are happy with it, my PS3 version works perfectly, it has none of the issues you describe.

i think what you need to do is make a "L" with your hand, then look in the mirror. It shows LOSER status, that you really
rag on a HDC that is playing 10 year old games.

dude go get a life !!!.

As far as I can tell, you joined this forum for no reason other than to complain about people complaining about this collection.

I think that might disqualify you from being able to tell people to get lives.

^ Absolutely agree with you as far as it being a huge blunder and embarrassment to Konami. It's in poor taste to release a product that is, as you said Purramid_Head, in beta.

I don't know why a patch wouldn't fix it. Could you explain this to me?

Consumers can and ought to give their opinion about the quality of the games they buy. Are you suggesting that people should just accept the inferior quality of a product they spent money on?

Instead of ragging on people who are entitled to voicing their opinion of a game, whether that opinion be bad or good, perhaps you should consider how you would feel if you got slighted in a similar way to the people who are voicing their disapproval of the game.

I think it's fine to expect a certain level of quality in the games we purchase from a company such as Konami, a company which has put out good quality products before. And when that level of quality is not met, it feels as though the games were just a means of gaining money and, in a way, exploiting fans.

Answer to original question: It's a business, so they probably want to postpone a price drop as soon as possible. I know some people have said that we shouldn't expect a price drop too soon. Didn't LA Noire price drop pretty quickly?
Oh, you think darkness is your ally. You merely adopted the dark. I was born in it, molded by it--I didn't see the light until I was already a man. By then, it was nothing to me but blinding! The shadows betray you because they belong to me!

They need the money.

If they dropped the price, I'd buy it, warts and all for the chance to play the old games again. I know I can't be alone in this. So I think they'd probably make more money if they asked an honest price for the quality of the product.

I just bought it at $39.99 last weekend, I know that's not exactly on clearance or something but I didn't think it was to much to pay considering your getting 2 games to play. If it's at $39.99 now it will probably go down sooner or later if that is to much to spend on it for you. I would imagine that it will probably go down to $29.99 first then down to $19.99 eventually, but that could take awhile. In "my opinion" I feel that it is worth spending $39.99 for it, had it been $59.99, I probably would have passed on it.
