I found after waiting several years and trying to play this on my ps3...its not as fun as I used to think it was. The whole gameplay is just boring to me. The story isn't as good as I used to think it was...kinda cheesy, really.

I would have to say, now, that this is my least fav TS SH. Anyone else?

Lol, I'm sorry for you. Really, I am. I play all of them over and over and I still like the game play and story as much as the first time I played it. You do have to keep in mind that it was made on the playstation one. I mean, if you think this was cheesy, try playing Tomb Raider one over again. That is on PSN too, you'll laugh your ass off at that one.

I bought it from PSN on Monday night. It’s pretty tough, the controls are horrible etc but I still love the game. It’s only boring if that’s what you make of it.

Same deal here. I had played bits and pieces of 1 in the past, but only last year did I get to play it all the way through, and I was kinda disappointed.

Its not that I hated it, but, I mean, after beating it all the way through, I just can't get myself to do it again...its just the same stuff, different ending if you do some stuff differently, and the endings were pretty ... well, I don't know, simple I suppose.

This is my second favorite SH game, it's also the scariest SH game in my opinion. It has that feel that will never be matched and it being a PS1 game just adds to the strangeness of it.

I never had problems with controls in SH 1, I guess that's because I played Resi games before I played SH 1, I kind of adjusted to the lame controls.

Cheesy in regards to the storyline and dialogue, right? Yeah, some of it is. But it's nowhere near being among the worst as long as games like Resident Evil, D, and Clock Tower exist. The gameplay still holds up alright, but not as much as say...The Last Revelation.

That game still provides a challenge with all its obtuse puzzles and unclear objectives.

You have to at least get the UFO ending. You just have to.
I love the Silent Hill Series. The new games did nothing wrong whatsoever, they were developed well, and did things different. I believe that Silent Hill Downpour will make all Silent Hill fans happy. Team Silent doesn't exist, but their series does.

I played it for the first time just last year and I really enjoyed it. I don't have a hard time suspending my disbelief with older games (I guess it's because I grew up on them). I still buy old, classic games. Recently, I bought and completed the two Fear Effect games and I also purchased Ehrgeiz because I never got to get it when it was released. Classic games have a feel to them that can't be matched.

I loved Silent Hill. The "cheesy" voice overs have a charm to them.

Isn't that pretty much all the SH games? Hardly anything in the games change until the very end if you're going for different endings. That's why I can't bring myself to play SH2 anymore. Too big of a bore.

The original Silent Hill has an incredibly pulpy feel to it more than any other game in the series, I finished it this year and loved it almost as much as the third. It undoubtedly is pretty cheesy, even some of the music is, but most of it contributes to this unique endearing nature that I see in it, not that there's any objectivity in that, but even the character names like 'Harry Mason' make me smile (what an absurd thing to be called). I also actually like how it plays personally, it balanced difficulty very successfully and it was nice how turning off your flashlight and being consumed by the surrounding void actually provided genuinely decent gameplay benefits at the cost of having to squint at your TV in order to see the knittering little snorting shits running at your legs (which was worth doing because you couldn't run past everything like in Silent Hill 2). Additionally the town also didn't try to passive aggressively kill you by giving you too much ammo to hold in hopes of snapping your legs under the immense weight so a pack of imaginary dog can come eat your face off. Not only that, but the story was nicely self-contained and it hadn't yet been bogged down by the rest of the canon so it was easier to enjoy without writing too many thesis on it.

This is my favorite Team Silent Silent Hill games in order from biggest (and best) to smallest (and horribly designed [not that anyone cares but I played them all in the past year so maybe someone will find it interesting]):

It sounds like such a fake book name, maybe I'm alone in this.

SH1 must be played in XX century context. It's still fun like playing pac-man, I mean, I have fun playing a game in cell phone etc. not always I need a ultra-high definition and a looong game to have fun.

I'm playing again too. Before I start it, I wish they make a HD version of SH1, but not anymore. I don't think they can - I prefer low definition with honor.

I played it not too long ago and actually felt like maybe I'd made too big a deal out of the crummy controls. I do find that using the analog sticks is considerably crappier than the d-pad.

I just hate d-pad! Whey I buy my PS, I chose good analog controls. Playing any SH with a d-pad it's beyond horror survival, is a purgatory!

Also if I play SH3 and than SH1, Harry seams Donald Duck running. There is a huge difference not only in screen definition.

But the others had 2D/3D controls options, SH1 had 2D controls only, which means having to press forward all the time which is problematic in turning when you're running, and makes you bump into lots of walls etc

I always used the analog stick when playing SH1 lol, just a habit. I tend to always use the analog stick for movement on console games whenever possible. Never posed a problem for me.
