Anyone else heard this?

Post by Wooden Plank on Mon Apr 02, 2012 11:47 am

I had just solved the suitcase puzzle in the hotel and had left the room. I ran down the hallway and just at the corner, I heard what sounded like a man crying. Has anyone else heard this before?
I love the Silent Hill Series. The new games did nothing wrong whatsoever, they were developed well, and did things different. I believe that Silent Hill Downpour will make all Silent Hill fans happy. Team Silent doesn't exist, but their series does.

I haven't. I have only original releases of the games. Are you playing the HD version?

A man crying? In the hotel?
That's almost like finding a man dead in front of a fuzzy tv screen. Or dead on the ground being "eaten" by a lying figure. Or dead in an alley holding a key.
The way I see it, the corpses are just stages of where James would get tripped up, disheartened, suicidal, etc. Maybe the crying hints that you're catching up to the weird string of failures.

But only some are hearing it. It's almost like a random event.

Isn't the 'ghost' in the apartments random as well?

What ghost? Are you sure you're not mistaking this for SH4? I can't recall any ghosts in SH2.

Hence 'ghost'. It's whispering, seemingly gibberish that sounds something like a list of things to do, in one of the 2 rooms that are connected by a balcony where you can save before your first Pyramid Head 'fight' [note 'fight' in that you don't actually have to fight :P]

The ghost of Blue Creek Apartments, of course! As stated above, you may hear a strange whisper (chances of hearing are random) in a certain section of the building. It says something like "See my dead wife, come home and do some laundry..." and the rest is unintelligible.

You can find an audio sample here:

Pretty cool if you ask me. And spooky.

Yeah, that whispering doesn't happen in every playthrough.

I downloaded all of the sound effects from the game and listened to them on studio monitors and the whisper is definitely "see my dead wife... come home and do some laundry" or something like that. I always figured it was gibberish, but I guess that it is actually related to James and the plot in a way. Man, just all of the thought and detail that went into this game astounds me sometimes.

Never heard anyone crying there. Might have to play thru the game again and see if I can catch it. One thing I love about SH's sound design is how lots of random things can be heard at times.

Didn't Yamaoka say that he purposefully designed some of the sound effects to trigger based on how the player plays the game? In this way, the game would feel unique every time you play it. Could be that.

I've heard it every time I've played through the game, some of the effects are more and less pronounced in the HD collection though.

REVEAL SPOILER
The guy crying is James if anyone hasn't figured it out!
