Should I Return This?

Post by SLDT on Sun Mar 25, 2012 3:00 pm

So, I just picked up the cpy of the Silent Hill HD Collection that I had pre-ordered for my PS3 yesterday, and have yet to open the box. Lucky I logged in here last night; I'm surprised by how aweful this sounds. Do you think I should return the game? Is it worth it to keep it and hope for a patch?

I would really return it if I were you, or at least leave it sealed until a potential fix is in the works, because the game is completely broken right now.

Well it's not like the copy you have now is any different than one you could buy later, for cheaper, regardless of if more patches ever come around to actually fix anything or otherwise.

Honestly, I would keep it just until the next patch comes out, download the patch, if the patch doesn't fix anything, return it.

Or since you dont want to open the box, just wait until the next patch comes out, log on here and ask the fellow community if the patch fixed anything.

I would go with the 'wait to see if patched' category.

Would be a ridiculous hassle if you return it and then they fix it a few weeks later which would make you want to get it again.

By next week I doubt it will be hard to find a used copy in pristine condition for a good bit cheaper, there's surely some around already.

One of the used copies being sold on Amazon is about $5 more than list price (w/ shipping). Of course you can still buy it new from some sellers, but I bet as they trickle down, used copies will actually (sadly) increase in price.

I have no idea why, but economics are a bitch.

Go to GameStop the week after pretty much any game comes out and you'll find a used copy for $5 cheaper than retail price. Go to local game shops and you'll find used copies a bit cheaper than that. This holds particularly true in cases of releases which have notable flaws. Heck, go check eBay's completed listings and note how people have been picking up copies of Downpour for $40-45 shipped.

Does anyone else find the 'Return it, spend a bunch more money then you need to on the originals' a strange solution to this problem? Or is it just me.

Because in my head, I just can't manage to justify buying a PS2 just to play the originals.

You can find a new, still in box PS2 for very cheap online. Who knows? Maybe you'll run across other PS2 games that aren't available in an HD Collection that you'd like to try out.

Because normally most people would recommend getting the HD Collection such as ICO Collection or Tomb Raider Collection seeing as how they're HD and some collection have other extras thrown in. But when a collection somehow manages to be worse than the originals...well, getting the originals just seems to be the better option.

Well, I guess maybe it's just because I'm putting myself through College at the moment. So frivolously spending money instead of waiting for a fix is just a bad idea to me, lol.

But I do get the whole, "Well you can play other PS2 games now!" But people always make it sound like you should chuck out the 30-40 bucks for a PS2 then about 40 more for both games. Which just isn't economical.

Plus, with the rate HD collections are coming out, I reckon most of the more successful series will be re-released anyways.

But anyhow as I said, maybe it's just because being a college student has made me extremely miserly.

It's just one of many reasons why I never sell my systems and just keep them. I always find myself going back and playing older games. Plus, I'll never get back what I spent to get my consoles so I may as well keep them.

Well, I already have a PS2, a copy of the original Silent Hill 2, a copy of the Silent Hill 2: Platinum Hits Edition, and an original copy of Silent Hill 3 with the original soundtrack included, so I'm not hurting for my Silent Hill fix. I just wanted the HD Collection because I thought it would be nice to play the games with better visuals, However, if there a graphical errors and processing issues, having this title in addition to the one's I already have seems like kind of a waste. Plus, I was planning on getting another PS2 sometime soon, anyway, on account of how old mine is and how cheap they now sell for.
