List of licensed music used in-game

Post by Generic_Bad_Guy on Wed Mar 14, 2012 2:14 am

There is a lot of music that plays in-game through radios or phonographs that is not on the soundtrack but is instead tracks that have been around for a while now. Sounds to me like a lot of oldies, and good ones.

Can we get a list of them so we can search them out if we would like to? I can't remember if they were in the credits or not.

Tomm? You lurking?

I know one of the songs that shows up in Devil's Pit was from the original Wicker Man. I'm not sure of the name, but it was the song Willow was singing while dancing naked.

I heard "Born Free" by Kid Rock on the gramophone at one point.

I'm pretty sure you're right. May have been the neighbors with their raucous music. :P

Anyway, I heard "Silver Stallion" by the Highwaymen on the radio in the Centennial Building.

I wasn't able to edit my post, but I encountered another song in the same location.

"Nobody Knows The Trouble I Seen" by Louis Armstrong.

This is another one I heard in the Centennial Building. I couldn't figure it out, though. Here's a snippet of the lyrics:

"I wish that I knew where this old road was headed
Somebody say how this dreams gonna end
So hold me tonight and just tell me you love me
I wanted a lover, I needed a friend."

That's what I could decipher, at least.

Here is the one we hear the most in the game of course. Seems Dan Licht is a fan of it since he used it in Dexter as well.

That song comes up a lot and it unnerves me every time for some reason.

^I know. It's almost as if the town is actively taunting Murphy with that song.

I love the use of licensed music. I think it better seats the story in reality (especially when it's symbolic). I feel the same way about product placement in movies, but I get a lot of crap for that. lol

EDIT: I heard a song by a female vocalist in the monastery; something about "you'll always find me?" Her voice was really, really soft.

"Why Me, Lord" by Kris Kristofferson appears in Overlook Penitentiary. It really sets a creepy, redemptive mood.
EDIT: Song starts around 3:14

The song from the radio in the Centennial Building in the video archives room is "I Wanted A Lover, I Needed A Friend" by The Coals. Luckily i had already heard of them, but they don't come up on google. Search on Zune or Itunes.

Thank you so much, man! That one was giving me a hard time.

Now if only someone would put it on Youtube... I may do a rip of it from Spotify and upload it myself.

Here's the second song that plays at the end credits. I couldn't find a studio version on Youtube, but the song's actual title is "I'm Afraid of Storms."

It's by Jonathan Singleton & The Grove.

Uh, Born Free is sung by Andy Williams. I know cuz I met him a few years ago. One hell of a nice guy. Sad thing is, he's got cancer now.

But Downpour is keeping his music popular among younger audiences at least :D
"I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. [laughs] Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched c-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhäuser Gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like [coughs] tears in rain. Time to die."

The music over Ending E is Ed Harcourt...The net is calling it "here be monsters", but I think its just a bonus track off that album with no official name. I'm not that familiar with the artist to call it...
