If it sucks like I think it will, sorry to the handheld owners. Cause if I had one, I'd buy it too.

I'm with you about handhelds. Konami should port this title to Flash too. My son play some games in Flash that are very impressive about complexity and graphics. I'm also migrating from AS2 to AS3 and found the language very sophisticated, as Java, with advantages in speed, compatibility and even stability.

Seriously, part of me is waiting for the announcement that this whole game is a prank. Unless reviews are glowing, (unlikely), this will be the first Silent Hill game I refuse to buy.
These are pretty much my feelings.
I voted for 'don't care.' I'm not getting a Vita & have almost zero interest in the title. I think the idea sounds awful, just like the arcade & phone games, but since I'm never going to play it, there's no sense in really getting irritated by it.

I just wish Konami would just spend their money on an actual really good and enjoyable main entry to the series instead of like.. paying Korn to write songs for them or making random spin-offs that alienate portions of the fanbase or forcing games out before the character models are even finished.

This is interesting. Some companies put their efforts in multi-platform capabilities, and others like Konami, in multi-variations on the same title. Resident Evil runs everywhere using Unreal. Downpour is using Unreal but only XBOX and PS3 - why? Course, the graphic engine is only a part of the all stuff, but an important part. I have to agree with some critics of this community that Konami should take more care of this great franchise.

By the way: I doubt Vita will "blow" in the market this year. Without a PSP or DSi version, Book of Memories will remain just a memory...

Downpour could easily get developed/ported to PC, it's just that Konami apparently thinks PC gaming is dead or some stupid shit.

I'd definately get BOM if it's ported to any other platforms (like via PSN) seeing as I sold my PSP a couple years ago and I'm not getting a Vita.

Am I excited?

Not a single bit. I'd say I am annoyed.

Earlier today, DBThanatos somewhere else wrote:They came up with some cooperative multiplayer crap for the PS Vita Silent Hill "Book of memories". For real? Why dont we just add some god of war gameplay, some world war two weapons, make the levels a big straight hall with tons of weak enemies, preferably all of them being soldiers with machine-guns, have all the characters wear HALO suits and add some pop culture references just to have a laugh or two?

Next step: Silent Hill MMORPG. We're getting there pretty damned fast.

I dont like the idea of multiplayer for silent hill. Maybe I am a purist (though I dont think so, I loved Shattered Memories), but with those videos I've seen it, Book of Memories look more like nation red with rusty texture and deformed zombies.

"Fans dont need to worry: limited resources, dark atmosphere, scare rooms". Yeah, Im sure that's all it takes to make a good silent hill game.

Taking the "psychological horror" part out of the equation is pretty much like taking the racing part out of a Need for Speed game. Or take the exploration out of the first person shooters. No, wait that last one already happened!

This multiplayer thing seems to me like Konami or whoever is developing this thing, is just following the trend of "let's add multiplayer here and that should be a hit".

There's one video that shows exactly what Im talking about
REVEAL SPOILER

Im really, really disappointed about this. Cheers to whoever will enjoy this abomination, but Im definitely not interested. Moreover, I feel sad that this franchise is turning into another classic ruined by the trends.

A quick video that made me laugh quite hard (NSFW). I feel I am one of them, and yet, I dont feel ashamed about it. If you want to watch it, I'd suggest you to lower the volume a bit, since it can get loud.
One day I'll figure what to put here.

Personally, don't like these videos using someone's voice edited. If you got to say something, say with your own voice against the unedited original speech.

The fact they're using Silent Hill to made an RPG is connected with the strategies guidelines of most of entertainment companies. In the beginning of 2011, analyst warned to this fact: companies decided for old titles for a low-risk investment. Most of movies are sequels or adaptations from a known book, and games follow the same rule. Konami needs Silent Hill to made a RPG cooperative game like Book of Memories? Course not! Silent Hill is just given a know name to guarantee some refund of investment.

BOM seams a cool game, but I don't see it as a Silent Hill game - a very personal introspective game. There is nothing wrong doing a cooperative RPG horror survival (also nothing new), but call it Silent Hill sound strange!

It probably won't sell TOO well...I mean, not everyone is getting a Vita, and probably only a small percentage of them like Silent Hill.

It needs to be on some other console or on the PSN like Gentleman said...or it's going to tank regardless of how good or bad it is.
The only difference between savage and sophisticated is the proper seasoning.

Well...i'm not really excited for this...i'm not fond of the concept or the rpg design behind it...I was just in the "vs Outbreak" thread and i was thinking thsat if Bom followed the concept of outbreak, it might fair better and that would be a game that i would look forward to...a multiplayer type game with the online/offline option with creepy locales and atmospheres...again i thought the outbreak series was good since it did have some creepy environments and dark tight corridors, but the AI killed the experience.

Already have this preordered, so yup: excited and intrigued. The whole 'playing it with a group isn't scary' doesn't hold any weight for me. i don't want the same experience over and over and over.

I feel a little betrayed. I said many times on these forums that I'd really like to see some multiplayer scenarios in a Silent Hill game. What I meant was, those times in SH2 when you'd walk into a new room and Maria was standing there ominously leering at you, if that were another player and they could be friendly. Just imagine hanging out with your overseas/internet pals, chatting about the weather?

Image

Or criminally insane and just start stabbing at you? How awesome would that be?

Image
(Go on, it's perfectly safe)

Book of Memories doesn't look or feel like Silent Hill. Shooting as many monsters as you can for points is not what Silent Hill should be. Especially not in top-down view, how can anything be scary without immersion? Is that guy using twin-pistols??? It's the RPG that someone was making anyway, and they went and bought the Silent Hill trademark to bring in a few extra dollars.

I agree with everthing LXMETALC said.

A departure for the series, with a focus on co-operative multiplayer action rather than traditional Psychological Horror.

Departure is "a euphemistic word for death".
So it should read:
A death of the original series and the birth of a horrible RPG style massive monster slaughter with your peers.
But since I love games with lots of monster killing. I would buy it anyway.

Thing is it's just a spin off title. Kind of like Silent Hill's Resident Evil: Survivor. It's not being touted as the next big main installment in the series. That's Downpour. I don't see how a spinoff title is going to kill the series altogether. But I'm still a bit uncertain about the title. Graphics just seem kinda basic and there's no really knowing what the game will be like since we haven't seen a swarm of gameplay videos like Downpour. But I guess we'll see what happens.

I'm starting to have Revengeance flashbacks now.

Yeah it's just a spinoff, it's not like there weren't any spinoffs for SH before, just look at Arcade and Escape for example. Why is Book Of Memories such a problem?

For me, the purist mentality has got to go. If a game doesn't change with the times, it'll die. I applaud Konami for attempting something fresh and different for SH. But, there are those that refuse to accept anything other than a straight campaign type game. And that's their choice.

I myself intend to enjoy BoM

Every time a new SH title gets announced, people hop up and announce the series is dead, or that Team Silent has been shamed or betrayed or some shit lol. It always annoys me. That's just such a stupid fucking mindset to have. And yeah, this is just a sidegame, it's not like they'd do a game like this on consoles or something.

I'm just tired of this whole, "if it's not a carbon copy of SH1-3, it's not Silent Hill!" mentality that's present in a large portion of the fanbase.

I guess I'm personally annoyed that we'll never get a multiplayer Silent Hill game now because of the backlash from BoM :P

I don't think calling it a spin-off is quite accurate, but the comparison to the arcade game puts it in perspective. I am looking forward to the soundtrack.

SH2 wasn't a carbon-copy or a sequel to SH1. And it was great. Just saying.
I just don't like spin-offs, but like I said it can't be a bad game. I would buy it if I had money.
As for main games.
I just mean that "Alessa, the cult, and god...etc." are plot elements that we won't see anymore. Although:
I like the new focus on SH "as a town that takes all." (And throws it at you in a whole new horrifing level.)

When I say carbon copy, I basically meant the "feel" of the first three, what with the tank controls and things of that nature. I remember TP trying to say that a SH game without tank controls somehow isn't a true SH game lol. But SH1-4 were all pretty different from each other in many ways, so the carbon copy phrase is more mocking of the TP types rather than representative of my actual beliefs.

Downpour was great, but it'd be great if we get a game set in Brahms.
