How much you pay for?

Post by gustavopi on Mon Jan 23, 2012 9:30 pm

I think that this is it: it will be for sale soon and we'll choose buy it or not. Of course, if is cheap, we buy it just to have it in hands and kill curiosity!

Analyzing the information available here and the videos on youtube, my perception is about a lazy job. There is no improvement of graphics by technological upgrade, only bigger resolution and a better sound. This is less than I usually saw made by fans in old games - and they do it for free! And there is NO reasonable explanation for not included at list an emulated version of SH1 - not at all. Emulate PS1 in a PS3 or XBOX it's a piece of cake for Konami!

So, after all, a price around US$ 30 I'll still pay, beyond that I'll use my next Mac with a good GPU and emulate it with graphics improvements (like MAME does) and should reach 75% of this HD version!

I'd pay $40, same as the other HD Collections.
And while it isn't on-topic, they didn't need to include SH1. It's an HD Collection, and an emulation of SH1 is not HD.

Probably £20 maximum. I wouldn't pay full price for a game I already own, but I would love to get the HD Collection. Maybe a used copy on amazon or ebay.

SH1 could be an extra, just to complete the initial series.

Considering it's SH2 and 3, maybe I'll pay $40.

The textures have been improved quite a lot and the game will look more clear. I would pay over £40 for this, but I'm not because I have pre-ordered it from Zavvi so I'm getting it for £19.85

I still have it on pre-order from Best Buy so I'm getting the game for $40, I wouldn't pay more than $50 though unless they threw in Silent Hill 4.

That would be interesting considering value, but for a true SH fan, only 1-2-3 are real SH classics ;)

Here, about ten years ago, something interesting happens. Some magazines begin to sell editions with a complete game for a real cheap price, about US$5 (just the CD). The games were classics such Myth, Total Annihilation, Quake, etc.. still good games, but a little old. They sell a lot and the games became popular and also make some people (like me) stop making pirate copies. This was good, but in a few years the new games didn't sell as before because the old games were cheap and still good. Imagine buying a Silent Hill 2 today for 5 bucks... Some games was re-lauched in a box here, as Total Annihilation, and the magazines were stopped (Counter Strike were stopped by justice)!

Cool, uhn, the magic came back agains the wizzard! A good game still got the power! Now Magazines sell good games for $10 or more, and never the classics!

Firstly, Silent Hill 4 is a decent game! Just because it's different to the others, people moan about it. Personally, 'the room' I find is really frightening.

Also, to answer your question, '£' means 'Great British Pound' - £20 is about $30 - $35

Yes, that's why I ;) ... there is no troll face in smilies list...

Many people say that SH4 is the most frightening of all. I'm curious about, but I have to finish SH3 first...

I would definitely be willing to pay a little more if SH4 was included, especially since I've never gotten the chance to play it. The only reason I'm getting the HD Collection is that I got rid of my ps2 a couple years ago and I miss being able to play 2 and 3. I don't think it would be worth buying it just because thy're "improving" the graphics.

I'm also not looking forward to the new voices for SH3 because, as far as I know, the original voice acting won't be an option.

Sorry, I didn't understand why you're unable to play SH2 or SH3 - what game console do you have?

They said why. They got rid of their PS2 a couple years ago, and as such, can't play SH2 or 3 until the HD versions.

They CAN play SH2 and SH3 in a PS3, or in a emulator for a good PC - thats why I ask.

Some people prefer cannot run emulators on their computer, nor do they feel like stealing from the developers.

If I buy the game - the original media - I pay the developers. In fact, the console price is calculated including what Sony will earn from the developers. So if you play it in an emulator, you're probably doing a favor!

Sony and developers don't like emulators for other reasons. They want to sell new games always, and if we keep playing SH1 in the emulator, we'll by less. IMO: is meanness (don't know if the right word), they are all already rich and we are not doing something illegal.

Emulation isn't illegal, as long as you rip your own BIOS from a system you own and rip the ISO from the disc you own, there's nothing you're doing wrong. I emulate games a lot simply because I'm a graphics whore, I want my games to look as good as they possibly can and I want them to run as fast and efficiently as possible, so yeah.

Game piracy has been going on almost since video games themselves existed though, and games will continue to be pirated for the foreseeable future. No type of crazy DRM will stop it.

I realize that, it's just that I prefer to buy games rather than emulate them. I tend to frown upon anyone that emulates past the PS1 era, but that's more of an elitist thing from me. If you're emulating games and systems that you own for that purpose, then that's fine. I do that too. But when you're pirating games that are readily available on current systems...that's where the grey line hits.

I wasn't advocating piracy at all, but I don't see anything wrong with emulating past the PS1 era. Like I just put my PS2 disc in the drive, rip it and make an ISO image, then play the game from the ISO image to prolong the lifespan of my DVD-ROM drive.

Some people are pirating games, like Mass Effect 3, to protest against spyware shit like Origin, or to protest against EA's DLC scheme. I'm not one to go and pirate every game ever in protest like that however, but I can kinda empathize with that approach. Developers gotta eat too, but they're losing just as much if not more money from used game stores and sites like Gamestop.
