I personally think everyone likes it. Many just won't admit it lol. "Oh, it has bad so and so mechanics, blah blah", but guess who has a picture of Henry on their wall at the house? That's right. Closet SH4 fans are everywhere.

Silent Hill 4 had various positives and negatives for me. I didn't like the atmosphere as much, as virtually all of the environments seemed much more open and welllit, which took away from the claustrophobic aspect of the games. I didn't really like the music as much, either, and I felt that, while some of the creature designs were very strong (like the Twin Heads), others were pathetically weak (like the "Burping Nurses"). However, the graphics themselves were pretty smooth and polished, and I didn't mind the gameplay. I liked the execution of the wind-up feature, especially, though I found it to be somewhat clumsy at times. I think the strong points of Silent Hill 4, though, really lie in its story and the fear it instills in you. I liked how SIlent Hill 4 gave the player a lot more insight into the cult and its members, and I think elaborating on the story of Walter Sullivan was a good move. I was also quite frightened by the gamne the first time through, as the invisibility of the ghosts, the relentlessness with which they followed you, and the terrifying ways in which they appeared all made them into quite formidable enemies. I also found Walter Sullivan himself to be quitean intimidating foe; he made me feel a special kind of axiety that I hadn't felt since my first encounters with Nemesis in Resident Evil 3.

Nope, I hate it as a game. I like aspects of it, but I can't stand playing it. I don't have it on PS2, but the PC version sucks. I'm not playing it with the keyboard controls, and gamepad support sucks ass. Then the combat and enemies are stupidly broken. I started up a new game and right at the subway at the start, I got owned in combat because of the shitty controls. Me telling Henry to move backwards and then he wants to do the stupid dodge move every two seconds despite me not even hitting that button. Then when I have like 2HP left, I try to run away, then the fucking dogs TELEPORT from across the map and own me. WTF is that?

Anyway, just meh. Terrible game, gameplay-wise imo. I might give it another go later. Either way, definitely my least-favorite in the series.

That sounds like it's more the fault of the PC port & not the game itself. I played on the PS2 & had zero problems with the combat; it played like 3 except the player can charge the power behind Henry's swings. The only gameplay feature that got on my nerves was the non-stacking bullets. I didn't mind the limited inventory otherwise, but that one aspect was just dumb.

Same here. The PC versions are noted for being buggy and glitchy. And yes, not being able to stack bullets was just plain stupid.

I didn't even know it HAD a PC version...but I never had any glitches in my PS2 one that I can remember.

I'm getting a new PS2 next month most likely, so I'll just get the PS2 version. I recall playing the PS2 demo way back in 2004 in one of the OPM mags, and I had no problems with the combat. It's definitely the PC version. One of the worst ports of all time in gaming history, I'd say. So infuriating. I still don't like some aspects of the gameplay (annoying ghosts hampering your ability to explore, non-stacking bullets, constant backtracking, escort mission with a certain someone, etc.) but I still wanna play thru it myself.

I'm going to have to get a new ps2 at some point..my ps2 will only play about 2 games from my library...it also sucks that the ps2 isn't even $99.00 yet...this thing should've been $99.00 years ago...

Where do you live, if you mind me asking? It's $99 here lol, but gamestops here are doing this thing where I guess they wanna get rid of all the PS2's they have. They take the new PS2's they have, open the boxes, don't touch anything inside and then re-seal them and sell them as used for like $30-40.

But yeah, the last PS2 I used had problems playing some games too. It was pretty old and beat up though, got it off a friend.

I wish I still had my old PS2 from early 2002... The "fat" systems seemed to play games a bit better than the slim ones did in my experience.

Sh4 is personally one of my least favorite (ihomecoming is actually my least favorite) games in the series, but that doesn't mean that it doesn't have some good elements. I like how you were trapped in there and could see outside, and everything was fine. You could even beat on the window glass. Hehehe the little things...

+1 on the apples and oranges.

Also. There were really cool little things all over the apartment. And when you got to explore the apt. building. The part that sucked was there was more time spent on that than anything else. And with such an awesome story for Walter, how did they let him be so bland and one dimensional. Walter went through hell after all. He might be slightly more interesting.

They are alike in the sense that both 4s represented a large shift in gameplay and theme from previous entries. Obviously they don't compare well to each other in terms of being similar games.
The above post is intended to be factual, unless it isn't.
