I don't like SH3 very much

@Xuc: Then it's greatest strength was also it's most glaring weakness

Since I don't like SH:O either, I think maybe the whole direct sequel story thing is one of the things I don't like about it. That's one of the few things I disliked about SHSM too...it felt a little like Deja Vu even if they DID change a lot.

Agreed.

But you know what would've been fun? A scene where Heather falls asleep in Douglas' car and then has a dream. Then you get to play the start of SH1(Going to the alley)!

MGS4 done it well. And the plot should have ended them up into Old Silent Hill, in my opinion.
I love the Silent Hill Series. The new games did nothing wrong whatsoever, they were developed well, and did things different. I believe that Silent Hill Downpour will make all Silent Hill fans happy. Team Silent doesn't exist, but their series does.

This is one of my favorite parts. In fact, I'm trying to run my old SH1 in my emulator (already did with Castlevania and other classics). SH1 got a combination of horror and crime investigation, since Harry will joining pieces of a complex relationships between the characters that leads to what happens to the city. SH3 is more drama and survival.

Ok, ok... SH1 is still better!

I could imagine this happening on a second playthrough. That would've been amazing.

On that subject, any insights into the dream sequence at the beginning? I can't help but feel it was too much of a big lipped alligator moment.

Almost all games but 2 and SHSM (did O? I only played it once and don't remember much) start in a dream sequence though.

Origins didn't start with a dream sequence.

The dream sequence in SH3 is explained a bit in the Book of Lost Memories. Basically, the dream itself was more of a premonition of what was to come, a type of foreshadowing. How Heather wakes up, and the sun outside is blood-red thru the blinds was symbolic of Alessa's past suffering.

Yeah, it's a dream she sent to herself from the future.

Oh man that would have been amazing. Like I said with SH 3 all I see is lost opportunity.
Love me some HC

Its following 1's formula with the dream squence and extra replay mode.

Not a lost opportunity at all, it's a direct reference to the way SH1 handled the New Game Plus mode as well as just being setup the same way as SH1. SH3 has a LOT of similarities with SH1 besides being a direct sequel and that's just one of the small things.

Really? I don't really remember SH 1 starting with a dream sequence, can the beginning of SH 4 be taken as a dream sequence too?

And yeah, SH 3 has a lot of similarities with SH 1. Heather's journey is similar to Harry's.

Harry wakes up after being attacked. It can be summarized all the people in Alessa's nightmare are asleep. Kaufman took a nap, Dahlia is unknown, Lisa woke up there. Cybil, Cheryl, and Harry are unconcious because of the crashes.... Hence the band and bad + endings.

Yes, even SH4's opening was a dream sequence where you're actually controlling Joseph Schreiber, the previous occupant of room 302.

Well, to be honest, Silent Hill is doing a good job of bending the rules of what a "dream" can be classified as.

OK, so after this part, it actually gets WAY better. But still, it's not as much fun to me as like 4 tbh.

Huh, really? I guess I've never followed SH3 discussion too much so this is new to me, but why would Heather even have cult / SH-related memories at all, the things she remembers throughout SH3 are Alessa's memories, not 'her own'?
