One of the main things that drew me to Silent Hill in the first place was the concept of the "Otherworld" in Silent Hill 1... as if there was a regular world and on top of that an otherworld that twists and distorts this world into a nightmare. I have to ask... how does the Ice World fare for a Silent Hill game?
I have yet to beat it, but as a theme it works really well. My only gripe is the gameplay of the otherworld, but the cutscenes or small gameplay moments (that don't require running through a maze) involved with it are actually really nice.

Ah, so it DOES work for a Silent Hill game then huh? I was kinda concerned about that. Well, I hear people say it's good and the ice world actually does work for the game, so I think I might give it a try once I get a few extra dollars.

You definitely should. As an overall game, it's actually really good. It's more psychological thriller than traditional SH, but it's a nice little break from the formula. The only problems are with gameplay like I mentioned and some glitches. A glitch in the game erased my save completely, but I've heard that that's really rare.

If you get it Bris, definitely get it for the Wii. The way the game controls is the best part about the gameplay...it feels a lot like it's really you doing the things in the game, more so than probably 85% of the other Wii games.
The only difference between savage and sophisticated is the proper seasoning.

I've heard that the PS2 version has less glitches, but that you can tell that it's a port of a Wii game. The controls for the Wii version aren't as solid as something like RE4, but I agree that if you're gonna use the phone, flashlight, solve puzzles, etc. it's really convenient having them. Plus it makes drawing a dick on the map a breeze.

Haha! Any game that lets you draw I tend to draw a dick on it (the white board in Duke Nukem Forever, for instance).

Well, if the game's otherworld actually works as good as you all say, perhaps I'll pick it up for the Wii when I get a chance. Sounds like it might be worth playing after all.

It will worth playing it if you see it as a new experience using SH as a theme. I like it a lot but it's a limited game considering some aspects like some puzzles, action scenes and also interactivity. They could explore more their creation. It seams they're doing so finally in Downpour, as i could see in the interviews with producers. But SM still got a lot to offer if the player didnt get obcessed with some week point.

Well, I got the game last weekend and I JUST beat it a few minutes ago. I thought it was a great game, different from the other Silent Hills, but it worked. The ice world thing though.... I spent a lot of time running around in circles. I couldn't check the map because I was constantly getting chased and I don't know why Harry couldn't pick up ANYTHING as a bludgeon and fight them off.... but it did get my heart going as I tried to run for my life. I'm also going to post some questions as soon as I give the game more thought.

"He" is warned in the first otherworld run - can't beat them! He can only run and dodge, it's frustrating (I tried to find some steel pipe too) but it's consistent with the problem.

I dunno. If I was told "You can't fight them" or "You can't beat them" I'd be like "Oh hell yes I CAN!" and grab the nearest bludgeon and beat the hell out of all of them. That's just me though.

Well, the main reason Harry is told not to try to fight (more a warning to the player than to Harry, really) is that the Raw Shocks are far more aggressive on the attack, far more persistent in pursuit, and far more apt to gang up on you than any monster in any previous game. If monsters in previous games had the same behavior, combat would be a practical impossibility for the ostensibly normal everyman protagonists. It's not like when a single Air Screamer will chase Original Harry for half a block and then lose interest.
The above post is intended to be factual, unless it isn't.

That and Raw Shocks are basically

REVEAL SPOILER
Cheryl trying to stop herself from going deeper into her own memories.

Humm, what about "yes, we can!"...

In the movie "Inception" there is something like this, but in this case, is an immune system against an external threat.

REVEAL SPOILER
In Cheryl's case, it's one of her personalities that is treated as an external threat - if we consider "Dissociative identity disorder" as one of general Cheryl's problems.
