HD Collection (Yet Again)Delayed until.....March 20th?

Post by Silent Evil on Tue Feb 21, 2012 5:08 am

Hey, guess what?

Those wacky folks over at Konami have decided to delay this thing.........AGAIN!

Amazon has modified its release date for the HD set and it appears to have been pushed further back from March 6th to the 20th. Both Gamefly and GameStop have done likewise with their listings for the set.

http://www.amazon.com/Silent-Hill-HD-Collection-Playstation-3/dp/B0050SXAIG/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1329814763&sr=8-1

I posed this question before, with the previous release date shift and I must ask it again...

At WHAT point exactly, how many more delays will it take for you to just say "FUCK this Collection!" And "FUCK Konami"?

2013?

I kinda doubt I'll pick it up anytime soon, especially with Mass Effect 3 and SSX so close to me... But still, what the hell, Konami? Just go ahead and cancel the damn thing already, lol.

I think you're reacting a bit strongly to a 14 day delay.

Also correct me if I'm wrong here, but weren't most of the "delays" in the past actually speculative release dates that were never confirmed by Konami?

No, most of the dates were confirmed by Konami. It was originally set to come out in the September/October range as a PS3 exclusive, then January 24th, then March 6th and now apparently (but not confirmed) March 20th. The official trailer states March 6th:

A 14 day delay might seem small to you and to hardcore Hillers but it means a lot saleswise, putting it out in the same month as Downpour was already a stupid move on Konami's part as most just can't afford to buy both and most are opting for Downpour but now it has more problems: people who might have changed their mind and bought HD Collection will probably have spent their money on Downpour and probably Mass Effect 3 by the time this comes out, Konami has allowed for some really shoddy unfinished stuff to be released such as screenshots with unfinished textures which will probably make people wonder if all these delays means there is a bad technical problem with this release plus that new Kotaku video has drawn some fire as Masahiro Ito has criticized the new release for the alterations shown so far such as less fog, no grimy streets and a darker picture tone. If they reallty wanted this game to succeed they would have done better damage control, set an April release date if they really need more time with it (although a February date would have been better, Konami could have gotten more sales for both by adding a demo for Downpour if they released it then and the demo would have been a good excuse for the delay) and then step up on the advertisement for it around it's new release date, but now it's most likely going to have poor sales and will be forgotten about a few months after release.

In ebay, the sellers still keep 6 march as dispatch date. I still dont get why this month: march! Why they didn't lauch in different months? Vitta will be release 22 of this month, right? BOM is in the list but came out only in... march... why?

Not going to happen with me. I would still get the collection even if it was delayed for another 5 years.

The only dates confirmed by Konami was January 24th and March 6th. All the others were speculations by fans and retailers.

As for this latest delay I'm not that upset about it as it's only 2 weeks. I know I would be more crushed if it were Downpour.

I actually don't mind delays. It means that games get a better polish before release. 8-)

I wonder why it's getting so many delays, but I'm still gonna get it eventually anyway. It's not like delays make me love it any less. :D

I love delays. More time to gather up the cash to buy a re-release of some last gen games because I am a pathetic fanboy! Now I will be able to buy it on release day.

I'm very curious to learn more about these things. Would you mind gathering sources/the media in question for all this?

Silent Evil tweeted him the comparison pic, here's the post.

While it is just one screenshot and it's probably an unfinished product at that, this will most likely picked up by Team Silent fanboys and used in opposition against the new release, expect Twin Perfect and those to pick up on it soon.

I realize now, I was in error.

That's actually a shot of the PC version...........not PS2. (d'oh!)

Ah whatever, you get the gist of it.

Really didn't expect this to spread across the interwebz like it did, though I should have known better. I just wanted to know what he thought. Ito-san and the rest of those original KCET visual artists are the only authority far as I'm concerned regarding these graphical alterations. His opinion is important and matters to me.

Time is money. Those who buy a lot already are now waiting for refund their investment. For Konami, is not big deal - still normal, better to "polish" the game well as you say. A PS3 game with bugs will be an otherworld's nightmare

I'm getting SSX, Syndicate, Downpour and Mass Effect 3, and prob. Warriors Orochi 3 at some point lol. I would've gotten this collection had it released earlier, but who knows if any technical issues popped up or anything. As long as the game is more polished and whatnot, it's cool. I'll pick it up but it's gonna be a bit later than the release date. Very odd marketing choice by them, to release this in March of all months, when a bazillion games are coming out.

In addition to that shot being taken from the PC version, I'm fairly certain that the "High Resolution Textures" option was turned off in the PC game's settings, as you lose many small nuances such as those that were pointed out by Masahiro Ito. I can't check right now though but I bet that's part of the case.

I gathered Silent Evil and Ito's convo here:
http://alchemillahospital.net/sh2-texture-comparisons/

As for the high res textures being off, I dont think it made that much difference in the sh2 version, but I can't recall. I thought it just looked less sharp, not had stuff removed. In any case, I figure an HD collection shouldn't have, for example, all grime removed from an area. I can't recall that ever happening on ps2, on any setting.

I am not able to make ps2 screens, but I would kind of hope a HD collection would look more comparable to the PC version, anyway.

Here's the comparison, high res on [left] high res off [right]. the main difference is the trees,. other stuff looks blurrier, but it doesn't look like it's been scrubbed clean or anything. I imagine the ps2 version wouldn't look squeaky clean either.

Perhaps things like this are why it keeps getting delayed, lol. If that's the case, they should've showed way more screens than they did ages ago.

This comparisons are to limited for SH2. The game got some visual effects that vanish in a single shot. The fog, blur effects, etc.. PS3 is a very powerful console, with a good LED high frequency screen the difference will be huge.

What I'm concerned about is the modeling and movements of characters. In the clips, they are ok, but when animating the real objects (non-renderized sequences) there is some limitations like speaking - it seams more chewing gum. I don't know if they work to improve it or they just put more polygons. SH3 should not have the same problem.

Ah, thanks nur, that clarifies my confusion on the PC version! Well, the last thing I can think of is they publicly shared some wonked pictures of it in development (Heather missing hair, blinds at Happy Burger not there, etc.) so maybe this is the same case... still a WIP build/shot. Man I hope...
