Under no circumstances am I saying it's not a good game or that it's not the best MADE game in the series or anything like that.

I'm just saying that somehow it's not so very fun to me. I don't really feel emotionally connected to the characters or even really care anymore what happens to them lol.

I think it's my least favorite in the series, personally. And once again that's a personal opinion and not a condemnation of the game.

Anyone else feel less connected with this one?

OH NO, AN OPINION.
BURN IN HELL, HEATHEN.

But no seriously, I do disagree with you. Three was the peak of the series for me and is my most favourite. Do you know why you don't like it/don't emotionally connect to it?

I thought this game had the best art direction and disturbing imagery in the series. I did like Heather, but as the game went on i really didn't like her reaction to the horrors she was experiencing. She did explain that she was becoming numb to it as she slowly started remembering who she was, but i still felt she should've reacted a bit more realistically.

SH3 also had the best looking character models that can still hold their own today and they even looked better than what was seen in Homecoming. I liked all of the characters too especially douglas...

Its actually my least favorite as well. The plot is so boring to me. The only thing in my opinion this game did right was the style and graphics. I thought all the bosses and characters were lame as well. The game just felt sloppy to me, like when Heather and Douglas drive to Silent hill, how do they get there? All the roads are broken. And reusing so many enviroments was lame as as well, Brookhaven really had nothing to do with Heather or Alessa as I feel they just put it there to milk off SH 2. I think they should have put Heather in the area SH 1 was in as to me it would have been a lot better, because when I see SH 3 I see tons of lost opportunity. This is due to either laziness or wanting to milk SH 2.

There is no broken roads for Heather. I checked. The road that was broken for James in 2 was perfectly fine in Heather's game. She just won't go down it. If you play again and check the non-SH areas there are also no broken roads.

I think you're confusing the fact that Heather is closer to reality than James, sees normal people, interacts etc. At the beginning the shopping mall is normal and there's even someone in the stall who knocks back.

Agreed. I can't be brought to care about Heather very much at all. I like the imagery of the game and the paintings everywhere of the cult's myths, but I couldn't care less about Heather and her problems. I thought Vincent was great, but only because he seemed to be three dimensional as a character.

I guess you don't like SH1 either, since Alessa had the same or similar problems.

SH3 is the game in the series that I play the least. Not because I don't like it, but because it was my first SH game and I literally played it to death. I usually stick to SH1, 4, and 0.

I used to think that she should have gone back to Alchemilla too, but Xuch and I have discussed it and we both agree that it might have been too much of a shock for her. It'd be like if James watched the tape after the apartments. However, visiting part of the town, a hospital in town, and then finally the amusement park is much more of a smooth transition than jumping smack dab back into Old Silent Hill. It definitely would have been interesting, but the game may have been more chaotic and without direction if that were the case.

SH3 is my second fav, right behind SH1. Love them both very much. Even though Heather's a teenaged girl, I still felt for her and was connected pretty easily with the characters.

While it isn't my favourite I do think it is really good. The environment are good, the monsters are good and the characters are great, especially Heather.

I think it's just because I don't really feel immersed in Heather's character. I think she's funny, intelligent, and I'm all for a female protagonist...but something about being snarky and sarcastic in a Silent Hill game like that makes me raise an eyebrow.

Augophthalmoses wrote:So have you finished the game yet? I know you had a let's play of it a while back.

I'm several episodes ahead in my LP and just need to post them, but I went ahead and beat the game all the way on another save file because I wanted to see it all and didn't want to spend time recording it.

Oh, I love the first game. SH1 is amazing, and a good bit more fun from a gameplay standpoint. It's far more interesting story-wise, as well, to see things from the point of view of Harry...but rehashing some of the same stuff through someone else's eyes (just like 3 and Origins) gets kind of old.

And I do feel like it's the most well-made game in the series graphically, theatrically, and in terms of quality. I just don't love it myself. Just one of those things I guess.

It remains my favorite because I find it the most balanced in terms of everything I like about the games:
puzzles, unlockables, monster variety, challenge, level variety, disturbing imagery, decent characters and storyline, etc.

But what you can say? It's not going to be everybody's cup of tea.

I'm personally interested in psychology & how the mind works after going through/when it has to face extreme trauma (ie. torture) and from that viewpoint, Heather's reactions seem realistic to me - she would rather block it out and go on as if nothing has ever happened/she never remembered. In fact, I was amazed by how all these little details were sneaked in, one example being her aversion to mirrors and having to face the infamous, massive mirror in Brookhaven Hospital.

Other than that, I'm unable to make more profound comparisons to the other games as I only recently started playing SH 2, also I remember having seen parts of the original SH played, as well as SH Origins (which freaked the fk out of me at the time, gave me nightmares and all). Also, I think that since SH 3 will be one of the first PS2 games I played properly, it will always have a special place in my heart and thus subjectivity will keep SH 3 in my good graces. :)

There is no problem youdon't like SH3, but it's strange like so much SH1 as these ones are basically the same. SH3 got a better gameplay (specially in hard mode), better graphics and at list two very dramatic key points in the game. Of course, the player need to be connected with the main character: a young booring girl. Than you'll fell the drama when she becames <spoiler>, a powerfull confuse young girl (wow!). But if you dont get connected from the beginning, tha game may became booring.

I must say that sound is a strong point, if you're able to hear. Go play it again right and than return here to our little conversation!

Yeah to me all the characters are believable people. Harry is accused in a subtle way of oppressing Heather's memories by the Order too, but it might be herself like you said. In the church she says she just doesn't want to remember and wants to get out of the room. She honestly doesn't want to be there.

I also give her props for referencing zombies, werewolves, and vampires within a horror game that has none.

No I was talking to Jane.

@Crowbar, the rehash thing.... Um, 3 is a direct sequel. It's gonna rehash. :|
