So in the beginning of Silent Hill 3, when Heather runs from Douglas and into the alley then into the shopping center, just before she gets to the room where she gets the pistol, there's a sort of hallway Heather runs through. It's on the first floor, top center of the map. Anyway in this room, you can hear muffled voices talking, as if someone has a television on in the other room or something. Can anybody make out what is being said here? I can't make out a single word and was wondering if anybody here has an idea.

No, I know what you're talking about. But I couldn't ever make it out.

Heard them too. Didn't understand a thing though :/

The only thing I could think of is maybe it's kinda what you hear as you're falling asleep, and it signifies the fading of consciousness as one passes from the awake world into the dream world. Of course, I could just be making that part up.

I think it was just the random noises you hear when you're in the mall bathroom..like people just talking in general outside in the mall itself...

Well, whatever the voices are saying it sounds like English.

I always thought of it like this. The creature that is (eating/killing) the dead body is actually a couple making out and Heather sees them as monster and kills them.

HAHA! That would be pretty funny.... though I DO wonder now were those voices something Heather saw as a monster? Something new to think about.

There's all sorts of voices and cool two-channel audio wizardry in the game in various places. One of my favorites was being on the top floor of an area, yet hearing footsteps a level above you -- in other words, a level that doesn't even exist. The game had a lot of these moments which can only be appreciate with headphones (or a decent sound system cranked loud enough).

As to the content of the voices, who knows, most likely either stock sounds or some random gibberish just meant to convey the presence of other people, to make the world feel alive at that point.

Cool theory, but the otherworld and real worlds are separate. Plus it'd be a bit odd for a couple to stay there without being escorted out by staff. Though the entire mall is empty anyway by the time Heather wakes up, which is weird in itself since you'd think someone would've woken her up and warned her that the place was closing or something.

Exactly. At that point, to me heather is not in the otherworld yet. Just random background chatter to let you know you're not alone just yet.

its sounded like they are making a great noise ..but its not clearly to me ..i think there was lots of people making this voices...in the mall i mean! then its disappears ..just when heather enters to the first scene ..then that monster attacked some one else too!...

Or it could just be the lady crieing out for help because she is getting her face ate off.

well i think its just ordinary noises from the people who goes to the markets these days ! you know;)

I always wondered about this myself. To me it does sound like people talking in the mall. What I think, is that the closed off parts that Heather cannot get to, are where the last people of reality are at before she enters that first scene and that's when things shift, causing the people in the reality to full disappear.

I always here voices. I just try to separate the one's in the game to the one's in my head.

I mostly hear voices in SH2 especially in the apartments.

I'm not the only one...? :lol:

Maybe Origins is has something to do with this. I distinctly remember a point in the sanatorium where you come across a door with a muffled crowd of voices coming from the other side. I like to think these are the last few fragile links between the fog world/otherworld and the real world.

I always assumed it was the regular everyday "people noises" you hear in public areas. Had Heather already entered the Otherworld by this point?

Those moments always scare the hell out of me.. it makes me think at first that someone is stomping around on my actual roof in real life, or banging on the wall next to me from the inside. It's really impressive.
