Really, SH2 was the only game that was pure psychological horror. The rest of the games were mainly just horror games with psychological elements, if the distinction makes any sense. SM could also be argued to be a psychological horror game.

This is just a spinoff game, like the Arcade game and mobile phone games, I guess the series was tainted before by those if we're going by that logic.

It's not like this is the main game in the series and all future games will be like this. Besides, SH series was always about american horror and other stuff, it can't get any more american than that.

Also what Naroon said, SM is arguably more psychological game than SH 2.

It's honestly getting to the point where it's just becoming really old hearing about how psychological Silent Hill is. It would be really nice to just step away from that concept and try something else like a tragic event in the town's (or another town) history having an effect on the story. Sometimes that stuff can be more interesting than this protagonist having some sort of predictable dark past/mental problem or what this monster is supposed to represent.

Locking down Silent Hill to just psychological influences and continuing to regurgitate it to the point of gluttony is only making the concept all the more stale without some innovation.

That's not in relation to Book of Memories, but the whole "Silent Hill is psychological" jargon that's just starting to become cliche at this point. I know there are going to be some people who just cry afoul of "how that would be taking away everything Silent Hill stands for!" and all that crap. But psychology is not the end all be all idea for storytelling and horror that it needs to be the forefront of every single Silent Hill related story.

Beat 'em up is something like Final Fight, Streets of Rage, The Warriors, or Double Dragon. This game isn't exactly in that genre. It seems more like a dungeon crawler.

And come on...do really need to hear more droning about American influences when the Japanese were basically trying to emulate Western horror with their games? And practically spoon feed us this mindset when they include God knows how many Stephen King references in SH1?

I've said it before, but the next main game in the series should be about the town's (or some town nearby or something) issues or some past event that happened, rather than focusing on this person who just so happens to have a jacked up past. That's one reason why SH1 is my favorite, Harry didn't do anything wrong, he just happened to get caught up in a situation that was much bigger than he was. Events just lead to that happening, thanks to the cult.

As a lot of us know, the town has been pretty weird and many "strange" things have happened there for a long time, many years before Alessa was even born. Whether or not the cult were behind these things, or was it the "power" of the town itself, who knows. These things should be explored further...Such as the one memo in SH2 that talks about the boat just sinking for seemingly no reason and then there was no trace of the boat nor anyone who was on board. That type of thing is something devs need to explore. I think a game revolving around that type of mystery would be great.

The Vita is calling me....LOL and if I get one Book of Memories and the Uncharted game are at the top of my list. I love 'top down' type games.

Anyone play the Zombie game on PS3: Dead Nation? Its really fun, kinda old school arcade type game.

For those getting this via AMAZON.COM - at least in U.S. if you preorder HD collection, you get $5 off this Vita title

On the contrary to people saying the game will tank, in retrospect I think it will actually perform okay or even better than that, due to the lackluster variety of titles available for the Vita right now. People will be more interested in a horror-themed game than they will most of the mini-game type stuff that's out right now.

I hope you are right; this thread was created more out of concern for the timing of the game itself, rather than the quality of it.

I've got no issues with this game. They are trying to reach a different audience. I know for a fact that this game isn't for me. A SH game with RPG elements and colorful explosion special effects? I'll pass, but some folks might actually find it entertaining. And quite honestly it could only help the franchise if it sells well on the system. As long as they don't try none of this silly stuff with the main series i'm happy.

Going off topic a wee bit, but there was a somewhat heated debate on the old Helldescent forums about whether this game can be considered canon, and Tomm i believe at the time stated that the game could actually be considered canon. And when i saw that the game had various creatures from past SH games all in one setting, i thought that they need to be very careful with that. I guess that they could cleverly craft it to be canon within the original series, but i don't think it would be wise to do so.

This is just the type of game that should exist by itself in it's own universe strickly for fun and to be enjoyed for multiplayer purposes only. I don't think they would ever do it, but i wouldn't tie this game to the original canon universe.
Knowledge, Wisdom and Understanding....these are the basic fundamentals of life....

If you can't amaze them with brilliance, baffle them with bulls**t...

Not sure why people make a big deal over whether or not it's canon. Resident Evil: Survivor is technically part of the normal RE universe since the Sheena Island incident is mentioned in RE0's intro. But outside of that one mention Survivor is never against referenced in the RE storyline nor does it have a tremendous effect on it. You could probably just refer to Book of Memories being in its own self contained universe like Shattered Memories.

There's always gonna be these "canon or not?" debates, especially in the SH fanbase. There are even people who believe that all the non-Japanese games aren't canon. We all know about those types of fans, so meh lol. Whether it's canon or not, doesn't matter to me. I'll probably get it anyway at some point.
