"The Cell"

Post by JaneTheNurse on Sat Nov 12, 2011 3:24 am

Okay, here's what I watched today. http://thatguywiththeglasses.com/videolinks/thatguywiththeglasses/nostalgia-critic/33139-the-cell This is the Nostalgia Critic's review of a 2000 movie called "The Cell." I haven't seen the movie in full, but from what I was picking up between his manic raving, here's what I picked up on:
--Investigator exploring dream-like worlds
--Dolls
--Serial killer
--Dream world death = real death
--Different realities
--Troubled past
--Child self running around as a representation of innocence
I'm drawing some similarities here. Anyone else?

Yep, Cell was probably one of the inspirations for SH 4.

Some people seem to think The Frighteners is another inspiration for SH4.

I could definitely see how someone would make the comparison between the Cell and SH4. The breakdown is very accurate.

I wish they'd make a sequel just to SH4 with more polished gameplay.

Event Horizon probably inspired that spinning spike thing at the end of the game that kills Eileen if you don't kill Walter in time.

It's called an Armillary Sphere, and, no, Event Horizon did not create it.

I was talking about gravity drive from Event Horizon:

That sphere thing in SH 4 looks so much like that, so I guess that movie was an inspiration.

That looks like they cut-pasted it into the game actually, lol.

Eh, make it dark grey and spiky. It looks similar just on that alone.

The Cell had to have been a huge inspiration. The idea of inducing sleep to venture into the mind of a killer and being able to witness glimpses of his past in order to stop his plan from becoming a success is very much represented in SH4. The torture scenes and the aspects of possession and reanimation are even represented. A Nightmare on Elm Street (a serial killer haunting you in your sleep; if you die in sleep, you die irl; he can be survived; things in the otherworld/dreamworld manifesting in reality; etc.) is another film that most likely played a large role.
