Silent Hill 4 The Room was an Epic installment into the series and 'Yes' i completed it also.
From the off, when you are first freely allowed to roam around the apartment and you take a peek out of the apartment window and you can see the world outside still moving around Normally yet your confined / trapped in your apartment, or when you go to leave the bedroom and the phone rings and you find out that the phone is not connected :).

I thoroughly enjoyed SH4 even though i have to agree that physically it didn't show anything close to being 'Silent Hill' but it still had Suspense and Depth which SH was famous for, keeping you on your toes and no knowing what was going to happen next.

Finding out the Relation between Walter Sullivan and the Little Boy who keeps saying 'Mother' really surprised me and also what both of their intentions towards Henry were.

You have to admit though, by todays standards, if we awoke to find chains and padlocks across the entry point of the apartment, we would immediately go find the 'hammer' which is something a majority of people keep handy and give those locks a good ol' whack, failing that if you have a crow bar handy you could wedge it in the door to try and pry it open, but if indeed that door is sealed by some Supernatural Source then none of this would work lol.

Anyone here found that the voice actor for Henry is... well... absolutely terrible? He sounds like he's half asleep really. He never sounds excited/scared/frustrated, always the same monotone... pretty sure anyone wouldn't sound calm if he just witnessed a brutal murder 10ft away. His facial expression never changes too. On the other hand the other voice actors are all excellent, even the minor characters.
A few of the 22 rooms in the hospital were really disturbing, like that giant head with hypnotic eyes (what in the world is that anyways?). The contrast is just too great, since most of the game levels are not scary at all, then suddenly you walk into this room and you're like WOAH WTF. They just seem... out of place. It would be better of the levels themselves were darker/scarier.

I liked that some things were bizarre and horrifying while others were perfectly normal. That's very in tune with the idea of Walter's 'dream world' and I think that's more unsettling than constantly being barraged with terrifying imagery as we were in SH3. It's more startling that way.

I completely agree with this. Not everything needed to be dark and terrifying in this one. It was just alot of weird and bizarre events happening throughout the game. The game was a slow mindmelt into madness. "Pain"...up above also describes pwerfectly how i felt about this game...so many events like the scenarios he mentions is what makes this game great...and i dare say it,..this game even rivals SH2 in terms of story at some points.

Even tho alot of folks rip this game for not being a traditional SH game, i still feel that 4 is one of the strongest entries seen in the series with possibly one of the strongest storylines outside of prt2...i've always loved SH4....and to answer the question,...yup i've beaten this game multiple times.
Knowledge, Wisdom and Understanding....these are the basic fundamentals of life....

If you can't amaze them with brilliance, baffle them with bulls**t...

Dude, the Room is the best game in the series, I've beaten it a bunch. It's so awesome, I don't know how anyone can give up on it like that :(

Because there's no flashlight or radio or waaaah.
If it weren't so long, SH4 would probably be the game in the series that I play through the most. I don't think I can make it under six hours, though.

Nope. I can't stand the ghosts. Although I've heard there is a glitch for that chick which makes her dissaper when fighting but only show up in cutscenes.
Love me some HC

I've beaten it a lot, but I agree that it does get pretty repetitive when revisiting worlds. At least there's new stuff to do and it's kind of fun having to ditch Eileen at Hope House. haha

I beat it once... and for some reason, didn't have the desire to see all the other endings. I dunno, I never did get into this one too much.

I've thought about making my own version of Silent Hill 4: The Room, but have it where Henry is playing World of Warcraft all the time and doesn't even notice he's trapped in his room.

This is one of my favorites to play. Have beaten it multiple times, and enjoy it every time. I love Silent Hill 4 (probably my third favorite behind SH1 and 3). The only downside to SH4 was the main character, Henry. Well...what am I saying, Walter is the main character. Henry is...well, I don't even know. Mysterious guy. Probably on drugs hallucinating the whole thing.
The strange creatures you see are Creatures.

Finished it multiple times. This game separates the 'men from the boys' as it were. Wimps, the lot of ya that didn't finish! :D

Seriously though, I totally understand why many couldn't stand the game. In some ways it was brilliant, in others a total fucking mess. Concept was and is awesome, but the repeat of levels was too much. That and Henry was a darn mute, fortunately his next door neighbor kept me going. That, and I love the bizarre baby headed creature. Gave me goosebumps!
Don't make Silent Hill fans' mad!!!!

I've also only beaten it once. I never really liked it enough to quickly replay it. I'm not dogging it though, because there are some really cool things about this game. A lot of really scary stuff happens too, but most of it not early on. Btw I hate the ghosts too - probably the most annoying SH enemy ever.

To the people that couldn't give it another chance, I think it gets better on a second playthrough in the sense that you'll know what to do, and won't have to wander around too much...

I've only beaten it once, it was the longest and most tedious of all the games for me. The only parts I liked were the Forest world and the apartment haunts, being alone in that apartment after all the haunts had appeared was probably one of the scariest things about the whole series. I dreaded going back every time. I think the repetition and boring-ness of the main character did it in for me, I didn't start disliking the game until the point where they send you back through each world a second time. I thought that was a little pointless.

I do give the game props for being so unique as others have said. I only think it seems a little out of place because it doesn't take place in Silent Hill, otherwise it's a great addition to the Silent Hill series plot-wise.

A lot of people say that but both the forest world and water prison do take place in Silent Hill, I think people just tend to feel that way because we don't walk through the actual town at any point...? I for one liked seeing completely different areas of the town or its surroundings, it's much more interesting than revisiting the same places again and again [in seperate games I mean, like 2/3]...

It actually took me three different times, and in a span of 4 years no less. The first two times I rented It and only had It for less then 48 hours, then I finally bought the game and beat It within a week. With that said, I also found myself having a new appreciation for the game as well, though three quarters into the game It kind of felt repetitive at times, but still, the story, literature and creative creatures alike more then made up for It. Would absolutely adore seeing It put into a second release of an HD series. We can always hope, right? :D
