Eddie Dombrowski and his pizza

Post by Averak on Tue Feb 07, 2012 2:14 pm

Some people think that is impossible for Eddie to get a pizza in Silent Hill and eat it. I believe that is not that hard to find stuff you need in that town. Every main character are able to find Health drinks. I am certain that Eddie's role in the game, besides to be a boss for James, is the one of a dead man walking. He's a condemned person. His fate is to die in Silent Hill. For all we know, he shot a dog and a person. That's why he's running and hiding. But what we don't know is if he killed other people too. If that is correct, then Silent Hill summoned him to pay for that sins and the Pizza is his Last Meal. The meal for the sentenced to death.

What is your opinion?

That seems like over-analyzing it a bit, to me, but it's a good though nonetheless.

It did seem kind of odd to me that Eddie would a) be able to find a pizza & b) eat said pizza, but he is in a bowling alley that probably serves that type of food. ( hamburgers, fries, pizza, etc. )
That or while James wished for redemption and release from his guilt, Eddie wished for pizza. And Silent Hill made it so.

We honestly don't know what Eddie sees and all 3 sinners COULD die for their sins or find redemption in Silent Hill.

Since Eddie is the Gluttonous pig it's reasons why you find him and the tablet in the prison cafeteria, as well as him eating. Eddie didn't want to be redeemed. I don't think the pizza has much signifigance after that. We could assume he got it from the bowling alley. Since he drove Laura to Silent Hill I'd assume he's in and out of normal reality more so than James because he's less delusional than both Angela and James. In the fight scenes he seemed to know about why the town called him and James.

I'd likewise assume Laura is may see the town semi-normal too. She apparently sees no monsters and never says there's anything unsual going on....

The town made a human being for James...

I think it's pretty capable of generating a medium pepperoni pizza with extra cheese.

Agreed. I doubt a pizza would be that hard to make.

I think this is one of those things that really can't be answered and don't really need to be answered.

Over-analyzed, but yeah, pizza would be pretty easy to either find or conjure up since he was in a bowling alley.

I guess that I'm the only person who believes that Eddie really isn't that far into the other world like James.

This. I always thought it was odd how Eddie was able to procure a pizza in Silent Hill even taking into account the whole psychological babble of the game. But it's not that of a deal. I know the games have their share of hidden messages and motifs, but that doesn't mean every single little thing contained within them has some incredibly deep, thought provoking meaning or purpose. The scene was likely there to make things a little more light hearted or maybe add a mild touch of humor.

If the town can create monsters out of nowhere then I guess it's not too big of a stretch to assume the same for a pizza.

For real. The fact that people can find things to discuss ten years after the game's release and find connections and symbolism in the tiniest things is certainly a testament to the game's quality of story & design, but there is definitely such thing as taking it too far.

Part of my point by the way. If the "town" has sentence you to death, at least it will give you a last meal. like Xuchilbara said

Xuchilbara wrote:In the fight scenes he seemed to know about why the town called him and James.

In the last moments, Eddie happens to know what his fate is going to be. And he suspects that James has a sin of his own (maybe he thinks that James is going to pay sooner or later).

Other thing: Laura sees no monsters at all. That I am certain about. We need a good translation of her dialogue with James -when they first met- but from the original Japanese game to know the exact phrasing when she said "Are you blind?" answering to the questions made by James about being alone in the town. I believe that she said something different.

I think it's irrelevent and since Japanese is easy to be vague with at times it won't say much. I don't doubt Jeremy took liberties but a large portion of 1's script was changed when it was localized with the English actors that Owaku seemed to have ran with most of it in 3.

Eddie doesn't show at any point that he knows what his fate is.

There's a fair amount of evidence he never killed anyone until he actually was in Silent Hill for a time period. Hence, my statements that before and early during the events of the game he was probably not in the otherworld at all. If he hadn't committed a crime, there was no reason for him to see the other world. The intent may have been there though.

I was replying to Averak about the fact that Eddie doesn't show at any point in the game that he knows he'll die in SH, because he was talking about whole "last meal" thing, maybe I misunderstood your last post though, Xuch.

Eddie tells James when they're fighting that the "town called him too", and implies that it's the result of some sort of action similar to his own...thus hinting that he had been made aware of what was going on to a degree. Right?

"This town is full of monsters, how can you sit there eating pizza?"

Maybe he knew death was inevitable and escape was impossible for him...just like Angela seems to realize.

I see it kind of like Clint Eastwood said in Unforgiven (not a perfect quote here, but it's the gist of the exchange):

The Kid, right after shooting an unarmed man in an outhouse: "He had it comin' though, didn't he?"

Clint, epic squint of epicness: "We all got it coming kid."
The only difference between savage and sophisticated is the proper seasoning.

I think nothing in the game indicates that he knew death was inevitable.
