Dream sequence at beginning of game

Post by KLan on Sat Feb 04, 2012 3:23 pm

I started an extra new game, and for some reason the amusement park dream sequence at the beginning of the game does not start, rather it jumps straight to Heather waking up at Happy Burger. Is this normal?
Also I was wondering what the symbolism is of Valtiel being trapped and struggling in the women's locker room in the otherworld hospital? Seems nonsensical to me lol.
Oh and is it possible to hit slurpers/dogs with the submachinegun? Heather refuses to aim down for some reason, I move the directions to aim but nothing happens.

Yeah, that's how it always is after you start an extra new game.

The Valtiel wasn't the struggling monster in the locker. O_O;

SH1 has that same feature. Dream sequence when starting a new game, but selecting Next Fear always skips the dream sequence and starts Harry off in the cafe. I guess the staff wanted SH3 to connect to SH1 in that way.

Yeah, the monster in the locker at the hospital isn't Valtiel at all, and the dogs can be hit with the submachine gun. It just takes a bit of practice in order to learn how to aim it efficiently.

The clothes are the cult's robes. I think its just some weird monster. *shrugs*

Btw, did anyone notice that the nightmare sequence and opening is similar to SH1?

I remember reading about how that creature in the locker was Kauffman, since there was a suitcase in the room and a doctor robe on the wall somewhere.

I thought that monster in the locker was Valtiel too. It really resembles him a lot. It probably isn't him though, the head of the locker monster seems a little different. It seems brown and a little longer where the face should be, you can't really see it on the picture though. I'm really not sure, it's hard to see.

I think this deserves the topic of its own :)

I thought it was Valtiel at one point a long time ago, but then I realized it wouldn't make much sense for him to be trapped in there like that, since his entire role was to watch over Heather and make sure she stayed alive.

Yeah it's held together with medical scissors. I like this theory as Lisa's symbols appear everywhere.

That child is Heather birthday's gift, though. Probably any poor child from Midwich...

Actually when you walk into the locker room, if you look to the left near the door, there is a picture of Kaufmann hanging up on the wall. It is easily missed. Hope that clears up some things. :)

I actually played several times now and this last time I just noticed it for the very first time. I had also seen something about it possibly being Kauffman and I went to explore the room more thouroughly and sure enough I spotted that little detail....quite interesting :)

The dream sequence in the beginning of the game is just there as a tutorial. It shows everyone how to work the controls before being thrown into the game. They probably used the amusement park because by that point later in the game you should have all the weapons in your inventory like in the dream.

Also, it ties in from a writing/story perspective to the first game where Harry experiences a dream sequence. My point is that it's not merely a tutorial.
Oh, you think darkness is your ally. You merely adopted the dark. I was born in it, molded by it--I didn't see the light until I was already a man. By then, it was nothing to me but blinding! The shadows betray you because they belong to me!

It's a dream Heather sent to herself from the future as a warning to herself. -Lost Memories
