What is your Otherworld?

It's hard to imagine what it would physically look like. Probably a lot like this world though, but darker. With a lot of cheap graffiti (symbolic of gang fighting) and heavy prison doors. There would be almost nobody there, because one of my biggest fears is being alone. Everybody who is there would come and go, as in, never get attached to me and leave a lot. There would probably be one girl there who stays with me, but she'd have to leave eventually (another big fear of mine is to lose a girl, especially to someone else).
The monsters are hard to imagine, I would say they'd be human-like and wearing turbans, but that would be too realistic, I think. And if it's too realistic, it kinda brings me back to normality.

Thought about it: Lots of water, and unseen things in the water.

Nothing in the world scares me more than the idea of something pulling me underwater. I hate crocodiles, sharks, the Kraken, etc. My Silent Hill would be water-based.
The only difference between savage and sophisticated is the proper seasoning.

Water or mysterious things in water scare me too. Especially if they're big. But I love the kraken and crocs. (Lived in Florida and I love reptiles and marine mammals! Amongst fish too.) I love most aquatic life. However, I am fascinated and scared of sharks at the same time. P.s. google Megalodon. I couldn't believe something like that existed.

Oh yes, that was a pretty tough beast to defeat, but in the end I was victorious.

Mine would have lots and lots of insects, dead bodies, small spaces...
The theme would probably be fire (I hate it, gahh)

I'm trying to figure my otherworld thinking about my worst nightmares. I had a dream with some assault where I was hit with a knife. So I try to walk, starts to lose my strength, fell to the ground, things was getting dark and cold... Other bad dream, I lost control of reality, thinks keep changing around, face-down my house (walking on the roof), can't say who is real who's not... Oh, yes, cannot forget the elevators and high buildings (vertigo)!

I believe if I'll design some otherworld for a game, will be something combining Silent Hill 1 and Shattered Memories. A lot of people don't feel any fear with SM, but maybe they didn't face some similar situation in real life...

That's why this topic is very interesting: every one got it's own scary place. When they made the game, they used a cliché from cinema to design it scary (now cinema search games for clichés) since they intent to reach a large range of people - the cannot live selling only to people that fear the water.

A game that exploit and use each one's fear still doesn't exists, but I'd see a guy playing SM in youtube (brazilian guy). He was not very exited by the game but starts to answer the questions truly. In some point, about 24% of the game, the game starts to get him! He became involved by the story, partially made for him... very interesting!

How about stuck in a hole you can't get out of deep in a cave forced to starve to death? D:

Things like power tools and blunt objects. I've always been freaked out by people being killed by things like drills and hammers... Like most/all SH games, it'd be pretty desolate too. I hate being alone.

The things that scare me enough to warrant Otherworld terror would be...

Heights, needles, silence, darkness, being alone, whether emotionally or physically, the stench of death, bloody bodies, bodies ripped apart or crushed, and lastly, knowing that something or someone is nearby, or hidden, and me not being able to do anything to reveal it/them.

That being said... Walking around, I'd be completely surrounded by darkness, save for about a five foot radius around me. Just large enough to see where I'm going, just small enough for things to lurk out of sight. What I can see, however, is usually bodies mangled beyond belief, impaled through giant spikes or long, needle-like objects. No matter where I go, I'm always walking along a platform that is (at minimum) 30 feet above the ground. It's purposefully made of wire mesh so I can see the ground aaaaaall the way below me. The smell of bile, vomit and death is always present in the air, always finding a way into my nostrils, and I can hear a faint whispering of voices around me, but any time I turn to look in the direction in which they came from, it ceases, only to resume when I look away again.

Ooh, sorry. Got a bit carried away there...

A six years old girl is attacked by a man that wants to rape her. Somehow, she escapes to the woods. He try to get her, but she go deeper into the forest and hide. To survive, she drink water from puddles and eat some fruits. Three days later, she found a farm and can get help. She was very disoriented and thinking ten days has passed already. The woods in Brazil are not like gardens and the time runs different for a child (as we know). Yes, is a true story, and she's already at home with her's family.

I'm telling you this because I was thinking how reality challenge us to imagine horror situations - can we? I was thinking about what happened in her mind. She is a survival for sure, and will be hard to make a horror game to impress her!

I agree with Xuchilbara and gustavopi. You need a deep knowledge of yourself to answer that and talk about living it, not imagining it. Mine would probably be full of cockroaches (wait, I've been through that in SH1  ) and something like this:

Then again I can see these in this world too.
Force the darkness unto me...

A dark figure, mottled and hairy, hunching in the darkest corner of a room that was once familiar to me yet feels lonely and alien and cold, devoid of all light and essence of life. It shuffles around, pitifully unaware of its own feet in damp patches upon the floor, it tries to make noise but musters only a faint croak of mucus filtered air. It has its back to me, as the room slowly dims to a darkness unexplainable. I cant breath freely as it begins to notice my presence standing behind it, it turns, not its weak, dark featureless body but only its tattered rotting head. I make no move. My body is ice. Suddenly my eyes are seared in the darkness as they focus upon the creatures bright enblazoned eyes slowly turning to face me, to pierce me, seeing into me and all around my soon to be corpse. It knows, it feels - and it is very hungry. I can see now, the hunger in its eyes is impressioned by pure white fangs against blackened putrid lips. I suddenly feel hatred for myself, who am I to be in here, to be in this situation, I have done no wrong to deserve this fate. The creature could care less and in that instant, I feel pity, for how could such a vile monstrous being such as this care for anything but hunger. I run for the door my body now suddenly free of the terror that stole it, I frantically search for the door in which I remember entering and there, in the darkness, nothing. The door is gone and the fangs are out.. its been ten minutes now and I am all too aware what it is doing..... its ... eating me... bit by bit and slowly.. so slowly I.... DONT REALLY FEEL THE PAIN ANYMORE
someday you will find me - caught beneath the landslide...

I imagine mine would be a lot like Harry's from Silent Hill 1, but the theme would be more of decay... it would be like everything is now, but if they were untouched by any humans or animals or plants for hundreds of years.... oh, and covered with blood too. Perhaps it would feature living walls or something that reach out and snap at you. Or perhaps there would be a lot of inanimate objects that were alive and malevolent. I guess kind of a cross between SH1 otherworld, Mortal Kombat, and anything with that red slime from Ghostbusters 2.

My Otherworld would probably contain alrge amounts of viscera. Maybe a few bodies, but much more viscera, as disembodid organs, especially cut away eyes and hearts, make me feel a bit squimish when I have to deal with them in dissections and such. The walls would probably be all rusty and covered in filth, and the floor would be slick with blood, water, and oil. There would also likely be many pitfalls, and it would be very dark, with corridors being especially tight, sometimes forcing me to crawl through the floor sludge.

As for the enemies, I can imagine most of the terrestrial creatures would resemble large athropods, arachnids in particular. I can imagine a good number of them would also be obscure human-esque figures, many of which would move with lurching motions and also which would have various splintered body parts. I can also imagine there being spectres, similar to those which appear in Walter's dimension, but far less docile.

Once entering my 'otherworld' I would become sickly and weak. I have spend years in the gym for various reasons trying to make myself strong. The darkness would take that away.

The monsters would look like people I love/loved in real life. I can think of few things more maddening than having to fight off attacking creatures that look exactly like your: parents/friends/lovers/pets.

My favorite memories would often be on display. Imagine entering a room and seeing a moment you were extremely fond of, only to have it serve as a reminder of the impossibility of it happening again. It would fall apart and decay.

There would be beautiful things just out of reach. Images of sexy girls would lightly touch my skin, whisper in my ear, temp me. Opiate pills would be everywhere.

The dull whimpers of suffering animals and children would be the soundtrack. Terrible cold and ceaseless wind would always be present.

I'd progress by slowly building up my strength, and by reading the memoirs of those that cared about me, or hated me in the real world.

The only thing that would keep me going would be the notion that I had to rescue someone weaker and worse off than myself. I would just know they where there in the dark, waiting for me...

Magnificent question. (many months later) ^^
