I think the theory about "another dimension" in the mirrors have a lot do with how alessa was able to control (in a manner of speaking) her otherworld at first. that would explain why the otherworld only showed up in mirrors cuz alessa was still manipulating the "other dimension" and making it hers, and cuz her powers were probably still growing at the time (origins)

voted 'yes' because they were cool. Very different and not typical.
Some people thought it was distracting and/or inappropriate for a Silent Hill game, but Origins is our prequel. It gets a free pass on a lot of things, damn it! Go Travis, go!

It looks like things are getting too spicy for the pepper.

I think it was a great and refreshing idea. In fact, it created one of the most spectacular moments in Silent Hill history. Well, at least, for me. The time when
REVEAL SPOILER
you use the stage props in the regular world, then go to the otherworld and see the real scenery.
I don't know why, but that just amazed me.
The strange creatures you see are Creatures.

Yeah I loved to
REVEAL SPOILER
open portals to other dimentions with the help of props, I really liked the library it seemed to never end.

I was actually discussing this with my roommate yesterday(I'm replaying Origins).I think the mirror transition is a cool concept BUT I like when you don't get to "choose" to go into the Otherworld.I think it should be something that's unexpected and just happens.Even though in Origins you may need to go through the mirror to continue, you still get to go through the mirror when it is your choice.Remember in Homecoming when you are in the hotel by the ballroom about to
REVEAL SPOILER
Fight the monster that represents Bartletts son

and you go in the hallway and one door is locked,so you go back to the other and that's locked too and it changes into the Otherworld? I like when it's like that.

I personally like the idea of having the two separate but connected worlds as in SH1 and Origins, instead of having the foggy world change into the otherworld. It creeps me out with the possibility of there being an otherworld version of my house, my room, apartment complex, etc that I just haven't stumbled onto instead of just my room transforming into an otherworld appearance.

Going between mirrors is kinda like in Zelda: A Link to the Past, where you have portals that transport Link from the light world and the dark world, a concept that creeped me out pretty good. When I think of the otherworld, I think of a world laid out a lot like ours but with a disturbing blood covered decaying type world on top of ours that we can't see or touch... until that one portal opens up. To me, this is THE thing about Silent Hill that got me.

BTW, after playing this for the first time, did anybody look for Alessa in your own bathroom mirror IRL?

I thought the mirror mechanic worked well. Granted, it's not the first time a protagonist was able to willingly travel back and forth through worlds of their own accord (Henry in SH4). However, it still works fine, it's not much a hassle, and in some cases it can lend itself well to the puzzles. The theater mirror segments being an excellent example.

The Mirror mechanics was one of my favorite things about the game. There's something about forcing yourself to go through to the otherside even though you know there's something sinister on the other end.

It felt uncanny to look into the mirror from both sides. But the effect of seeing your own reflection move around with you when the environment on the other side was different made it feel like the other one was a doppelgänger.

Yeah. That's the thing. It's one thing if you're thrown into this otherworld and have no choice but to fight your way out for survival.... but to willingly go into the otherworld you have to have a giant pair of testicles.

It felt a little cheap and gimmicky at times but it was a nice change of pace as well and worked great at times [especially the theater obviously]. Then again, that pretty much summarizes 0rigins...

At any rate I didn't like it much at first but in retrospect it wasn't too bad. I'm happy it didn't become the new standard though...I suppose it's a good thing the transitions vary from game to game, come to think of it, most of them are actually unique to each game, excluding Homecoming.

I like the thought of Travis willingly choosing, but knowing that he has to go through the mirrors to get to the hellish otherworld. I think that says volumes about his character. He'll do hat he has to to get to the bottom of it. I wonder if he thought of his mother often after experiencing the "flashbacks" during the sanitarium stage. She spoke of the mirror workd, "Their world" and he sees that it is real.

I think Silvers said he wanted to play it and so did someone else, but they hadn't. Too bad. I think Silvers would like it :D Wonder if Sniper will make another appearance. :D
