Do you guys think they'll release a soundtrack for the movie this time? It was pretty disappointing that the first movie didn't have an official soundtrack due to copyright issues.

I certainly hope so. Is there any word on who will be doing said soundtrack?

No information yet. I have a feeling that if they include revamped game songs like in the first one, Sony will refuse to allow a soundtrack release.

So do I. Luckily for us, Bassett mentioned on his blog that he wants to avoid recycling old tracks (something about how they weren't composed or recorded with the technicalities of movie-sound in mind, therefore the quality comes out funky) so they should be able to whip up something that can be made readily available to the adoring fan. :)

Is Akira Yamaoka doing the music?

I'm not sure. Bassett posted this:

But there was never any final announcement as to whom he'd picked, or whether a deal with Akira was ever made. I guess we'll have to wait and see.

ANNOUNCEMENT!!!!

You’ve waited a long time for this announcement, so I figured it was about time I told you all that Jeff Danna along with Akira Yamaoka will be composing the score for Silent Hill 2. Still a few details to be ironed out but I’m confident that nothing stands in the way. I’m really pleased it’s the same team as the first movie as I thought that was a damn fine score. Obviously Akira is one of the greatest game sound designers and composers and he’s a fundamental part of what made Silent Hill the greatest series of survival horror games ever created. Jeff is a hugely gifted composer who has immersed himself in the Silent Hill universe so knows how to bring it all together for cinematic purposes. Together they’re going to blow us all away. Quite how they’re going to work is yet to be decided but I’m raring to get into this part of the process to start hearing what they come up with.

Anyway, just thought you’d like to know. I’ll share some details of our progress as it all develops.

But it's cool... People will still find ways of hating the film without seeing any of it!
Now where's that trailer they were going on about for Halloween?

Good news I guess. But it makes me wonder if he's going to reuse any tracks from SH4, Origins, Homecoming, & Shattered Memories or just make entirely new tracks altogether.

"End Of Small Sanctuary" again. (it was in the first film wasn't it?) Variations on that will do me. And the fact that a new film has been filmed, obvs!

I hope he just makes a new soundtrack rather than reusing old ones. It was one of the factors that just made the last film seem off.

I still want them to use the old soundtrack, at least a bit.

This is really good news!

A new, more cinematic Silent Hill soundtrack! I can imagine Akira would be creating something special for use in a surround sound system. He did wonders with stereo sound on the video games so we should be in store for some treats in the cinemas :D

A little bit is fine with me, but I do hope to hear a mostly new soundtrack. I like hearing soundtracks that are specifically tailored for a work.
Oh, you think darkness is your ally. You merely adopted the dark. I was born in it, molded by it--I didn't see the light until I was already a man. By then, it was nothing to me but blinding! The shadows betray you because they belong to me!

The movie soundtrack for the first Silent Hill was titled "Silent Hell."

I brought this up elsewhere; I believe it was iTunes-only, and not completely official.

It's on Amazon mp3 downloads, too. That's where I found it, anyways.
