Founding Families' Names?

Post by Devoured on Sat Oct 22, 2011 6:17 pm

Does anyone have any suggestions where the names of the founding families came from? Shepherd is likely a reference to Mary, wether or not they're related in any way, I assume Holloway comes from House Of Leaves, so any ideas where the other ones came from?

Its really hard to tell as it has never been officially said whether they are or not. It definitely has been suggested that the Shepherds are related to Mary in some way, though is never confirmed.

Founding Families' Names?

--The Norman surname "Bartlett" is derived from the name Bartholomew. The family crest appears to have five-petaled flowers on it.

--Known variations of the Anglo-Saxon Fitch family name include Fitch, Fitchett, Fitchitt, Fittch, Fitche, Fitchet, Fitchit, Fitz, Fitts, and many more. The Fitch family crest is characterized by big cats.

--The surname "Shepherd" is an Anglo-Saxon occupational surname. As you can guess, it's a job characterized by keeping order. The family crest is characterized by axes.

--Holloway is a name of ancient Anglo-Saxon origin and comes from a family once having lived as inhabitants at the "hollow-way" or "holy way." Its crest is characterized by crescents, appearing to be blades, perhaps scythes.

From these, I see references to the Bartlett's vineyard, the Fitch's blood-drawing practice for sacrifices, the Shepherd family's duty of maintaining order, and the Judge Holloway's dedication to keeping the sacred order in the town. Obviously, these aren't necessarily correct, but it's food for thought.

I got my information from http://www.houseofnames.com/.

Haha very good find, I never even thought of looking up the names or anything like that, I just figured Holloway was in reference to House Of Leaves and so Bartlett & Finch must be from some book or movie as well...all in all they lose a point for not referencing HOL but gain one for names with an actual meaning...which still adds up to me not really liking Homecoming...

It could be instead that they simply chose names that "felt right," like a lot of authors and artists do. After all, this is all just my theory making.

Better than the supposed "effot" Twin Peaks put into it, though. xD All they ever did was bash it.

I think Mary is Alex's older sister. She's just not mentioned in the game. Also, Maria is Henry's sister. Travis is Harry's cousin and James is Joshua's uncle.

The Silent Hill family tree has now been confirmed.
I love the Silent Hill Series. The new games did nothing wrong whatsoever, they were developed well, and did things different. I believe that Silent Hill Downpour will make all Silent Hill fans happy. Team Silent doesn't exist, but their series does.

Tina is supposed to be Henry's cousin too. :)

It's pretty convincing to me and I'm pretty skeptical, especially if it interferes with a theory of my own haha, so...

The last names from Twin Peaks are supposed to have a deeper meaning? I can't actually think of any that are obvious, maybe I should look into it (or maybe not considering your opinion on them...)

Nah, I meant the two guys who do The REAL Silent Hill Experience. TwinPerfect, sorry. Had the wrong name!
I watched their review of Homecoming. I like those guys, but seriously, that was basically a Homecoming-hate-circlejerk between the two of them.
