I would say Masahiro Ito's idea about Pyramid Head still holds true. It doesn't have a face. The fact that it has a weird shape for a head makes it so grotesque, which was completely thrown out the window with the butcher.

The other monsters we've seen don't look that original either, in fact I've seen all of them in other horror games and movies. Here's hoping they bring something new to the table. Otherwise it won't be scary or disturbing to see the same old shiat yet again.

Actually, we are not seeing same old "shiat". There's no nurses, dogs, straightjacket look alikes etc.

Total ripoff of Clocktower 3. He looks like a mixture between the Corroder and the Sledgehammer.

If you ever have a chase sequence ivolving him, I'm going to laugh at the utter lack of originality.

Why? A lot of horror games have chase sequences.

Got stuck on a chase sequence in Spiderman on PS1. Chase scenes have never been original, and I list them under one of those "older than dirt" things that I never tire of seeing.

I agree...the "main boss creatures" have been lacking since the original 4...Valtiel while looking very similar to PH in prt3, had a completely different role and different and disturburbing mannerisms....i loved the scene with him right below those two hanging legs of what looked to be of young schoolgirls. But origins had "the butcher" and homecoming "the boogie man"...both very similar to PH and lacking in creative design...both games should've been a bit more original and created original creatures...

This gasmask guy is kinda generic as well...his design can be seen in over a dozen games and movies, and it doesn't have nowhere near the impact that the original PH had when you first saw it in Prt2.
Knowledge, Wisdom and Understanding....these are the basic fundamentals of life....

If you can't amaze them with brilliance, baffle them with bulls**t...

The only chase sequence in a Horror game I liked was the...

REVEAL SPOILER
Mutated Steve chase in RE:CVX. He could kill you in two hits, even at full health. Had to bring lots of Herbs or do the trick.
I love the Silent Hill Series. The new games did nothing wrong whatsoever, they were developed well, and did things different. I believe that Silent Hill Downpour will make all Silent Hill fans happy. Team Silent doesn't exist, but their series does.

All of this talk has made me realize how stupid the MC Hammer character really is. I was trying to give it a chance, but now I've finalized that this character looks lame. Only thing going for it is that it is all black, which is still cliche and generic to the point of stale.

"My Bloody Valentine" Had a gas mask killer - > gas mask killer]here

I hope that there are more monsters than what we are seeing, because there really needs to be at least one crazy grotesque creature that we will all talk about for years to come . . . other wise . . . This may be the end for Silent Hill, and no other game will ever make the fans happy.

I think that this game is being talked about so heavily is because the fans are putting their hopes into it. This game has the potential to be phenomenal, but because of the scars of the past, the old wounds still hurt, so any failures in this game will cause fans to hurt and never trust another silent hill game again . . . ANd then there are the people who have no idea and they will buy Silent Hill games just because its Silent Hill. And then there are those who are bored and just wanna try the game out, do whatever you want, but still--I doubt another SIlent Hill game will ever be any good after this.

This will be the end of SH because of hammer guy?
btw. I think he isn't black, more like green or something.

Also, you can say that a lot of stuff is unoriginal or something, for example, Pyramid head, oh please, Egyptians had pyramids thousands of years ago, how uncreative is that XD

I agree that he's nothing original but he's at least mysterious from what we saw. I wonder what's his connection with the nun.
So far I didn't saw anything in Downpour what would make me worry.

Clocktower 3 was primarily about the enemies chasing you while you hid and/or ran your taint off.

If the Sledgeroder (Corrohammer?) chases you, it'll be about as blatantly obvious a ripoff as it gets.

Like we were saying. Chase sequences in horror games are pretty much as old as the genre and has been used in every other horror game, generally to desired effect. Saying a chase sequence is a blatant rip-off is like saying that the ironsight mechanic in Battlefield 3 is a blatant rip-off of Call of Duty 1.

What I mean is, if that particular character, which is an obvious copy of Clocktower 3 enemies, chases you, then it's a ripoff of Clocktower 3. Clocktower invented the horror chase sequence, if I'm not mistaken. When did CT1 come out? I think it was on SNES.

I HIGHLY doubt that developers looked at Clock Tower 3 and decided to make Gas Mask dude look like those two, I mean come on man!

I'm not so sure, hunter. It looks pretty clear to me that that's at least a high possibility. As I said, if he chases you around, it'll be a sure thing in my eyes.

Raincoat Killer, Deadly Premonition.

Masked killers have been around since before the invention of video games.
