What did you expect (past tense) from this film?

Post by Solitary Poet on Mon Jun 27, 2011 11:19 pm

I know now that this film is to be based on Silent Hill 3, but when the first rumors of a second film first surfaced I had something very different in mind. What did you originally expect from the second Silent Hill film?

Based on the completely original ending of the first film, I expected an entirely original second film that was not based on any game. To tell you the truth, I was excited to get an altogether new Silent Hill story that was not dependent on anything that came before. I was actually disappointed when I found out that it was just another rehash of one of the games. The word "revelations" used to mean something.

It might be good, but I have the same feelings about Silent Hill movies as I do Silent Hill fanfictions or Silent Hill Indie games. I hate when it's main character and supporting characters are characters in the offical Silent Hill games. I wish it was an orginal character.

I'm just twiddling my thumbs and waiting for it to come out so I can see how they merged 3 with the first movie. I still don't know what to expect.

It looks like things are getting too spicy for the pepper.

Yeah, I figured they were just going to do an original story for the next film as well. I don't mind SH3 being used as a basis for the plot as long as the movie isn't excrement obviously.

I would like to know what happened with Rose at the end, but I wouldn't be surprised if that was ignored altogether in the sequel.

I thought that the sequel would be stuck in development hell until it finally died, until it turned out to be a Silent Hill 3 re-imagining.
The above post is intended to be factual, unless it isn't.

Pretty much. Then when I found out that the sequel was actually happening I thought it would be an adaptation of SH2 that was tweaked slightly to make sense as a sequel to the first film, maybe with Rose as Mary and Rose's husband that I can never remember the name of as James.

I expected it to be about Silent Hill 2. I didn't like the idea. I thought they might bastardize the characters, story and Pyramid Head.
I love the Silent Hill Series. The new games did nothing wrong whatsoever, they were developed well, and did things different. I believe that Silent Hill Downpour will make all Silent Hill fans happy. Team Silent doesn't exist, but their series does.

I knew they would end up doing the SH3 story, but I had no clue as to whether they'd ever get it off the ground or not, the 3D doesn't surprise me either, I doubt it'll be as good as the game, but at least it'll be fun

I really wish they'd gone along with this idea: http://browse.deviantart.com/?qh=&secti ... r#/d32qp6b

Haha, yes! Sean Bean is a true badass. He once got stabbed at a pub, then went right back to drinking. True story

I know almost nothing about the film and expect even less.

I'll end up seeing it, and maybe I'll like it and maybe I won't, but I'll form that opinion during viewing, not before. I don't understand the practice of eating up previews and photos and the like, with movies or with games. It is my way to approach things without preconceived notions, or as few as I can manage.

She's in the film briefly so.. I don't know if we find out what happens to her, but her existence is at least acknowledged.

I was expecting them to attempt SH2. And hoping there wasn't going to be a sequel.

Honestly I expected a cheaply made direct-to-video sequel for Silent Hill with none of the original cast involved except maybe an executive producer for the previous director or writer or guy who brought the doughnuts to the set, a story where the DaSilvas are living a normal life in a clichéd suburb until their world turns computerized black and fake looking computerized demons start chasing them with corny screams and laughable computer effects. It would receive some awful title (I.E. Silent Hill 2: Insert title involving dreams or blood here) and it would have it's spectacular premiere on the SyFy channel.

Luckily they are spending a little more than ten bucks on this next one and are making a theatrical version of Silent Hill 3.
At the law offices of Mason, Dombrowski and PyramidHead we will make sure you receive adequate representation, visit our offices in Paleville for more details.

Rose will appear in the film; I'm guessing that we will know what happened, or be able to extrapolate it.

I'd love to see a completely original story for the next film, to be honest.

The first movie was inspired on the game, can't bring a game to the big screen as can't bring a good book, they are different medias. A movie cannot be so complex and deep, they made a very good adaptation and my expectation is that they do it again.

Since sequel are not like Silent Hill, we can expect anything from the main inspiration, even Shattered Memories. Ok, some nurses will be fine...

I expected something like this: This next movie would have picked up where Rose and Sharon were still stuck in the "world" of Silent Hill and the father would play a similar role to James and would go back to SH to find them. Then (if there were next ones) the next one would be when Sharon is older around Heather's age and her time in SH. The fourth would be her even older similar to the role of Henry, and so on. Just knowing how a lot of movies go from games this is what I figured, though like everyone else I would have prefered something completely new. :)
