Silent Hill: Shattered Memories 2

Post by Granhunter101 on Mon Jun 27, 2011 9:01 pm

I loved Shattered Memories, the pacing was ALOT better then then most of the games (I loved ALL the Silent Hill games by the way) the nightmares gave me adrenaline rush comared to how combat was a chore (besisdes on Orgins, and Homecoming (I haven't played 1 or 4)) The exploration was ALOT better because of the over-the-shoulder perpective. I think it would be cool if they remade SIlent Hill 2 in this form, but with some expections.

Oh wow. Really?
It was a pretty descent game, but I think they're going to keep it more old school for the remake.

That would definitely be something to see, though.

It looks like things are getting too spicy for the pepper.

I'd just rather have a new game myself.

I would prefure to see a remake for the Playstation Vita with PS3 graphics, make the combat realistic (if you get hit in a bad area, you start to bleed, and you have to cover the wound), more extras (new ending? all the extras in the director's cut, custom soundtrack on a second playthrough, mabye make the game longer)

I liked the way they made Shattered Memories. I think that if they reused that formula a second time, it wouldn't be as memorable. That's partly why they changed the formula of the game to begin with. Fog, nurses, and hospitals were starting to get old.

My footsteps are faster than others
My youth is a different dimension

Hi. I'm new here but not in SH. I've finished this one three times. I beleive they create a new path, parallel of the original sequel. The game seems a little "empty" yet. I gess they didn't learn how to use this formula yet, not because Konami is "newbe", but because the formula is new. I hope that after all these years with a lot of fans exploiting the game they can already see how great the idea was and how new possibilites there are - for a SHSM2.

They will need some better resources either. I don't know if my PS2 is not good enough for this game, or the animation techs was not accurate enough. The closes and the intensity of scenes require a lot of graphics. Ok, I'm been hard, but it's also my way to express my enthusiasm. For a long time a game did not give me nightmares!

Hi. Im a newbie here too but have spent quite some time with SH games the last ten years or so. SHSM for me was a good if slightly off beat experience to play through and I thought it quite unnerving at how the game started to profile me from beginning to end. Harry Mason, whilst portrayed as the doting father as in the original and protagonist of the game
REVEAL SPOILER
(or was it Cheryl!)
just wasn't as grounded for me like he was before. This wasn't due to the lack of combat but more to do with how I remembered him from Silent Hill 01. His voice acting was good but I felt he could have been portrayed with a bit more anger or shown a little more emotion throughout my time in SHSM. Also the creepiness just wasn't there, sure the shock factor of been chased through corridors and constantly running to safety worked the first time but towards the end that became the norm and I found myself more intrigued plot wise rather than gameplay wise... To sum it up playing SHSM made me want to return either to the original or origins because even though my gripe wasn't with the loss of combat there's nothing better than the satisfaction of crowbarring a nurse in the head ....
someday you will find me - caught beneath the landslide...

While I agree with the latter (Shattered Memories is a masterclass in intruiging storytelling) in places like the mall, although you don't get attacked; the nature of the lighting, the long shadows produced by your flashlight and the fact that not a single living soul is around really got to me.

but thats just it... there is'nt another soul around anywhere and whilst playing the game you knew that no matter the atmosphere there was no way anything was hiding in the dark to get you so to speak, it made me feel safe playing the non-nightmare sections of the game. You're right about the games mastery of storytelling though and like I said towards the end I found it was the story that kept me driven to completion just not the actual gameplay itself. Been honest though eheh it was ace and I did love it ... It felt all new like :)

To me it's a step in the right direction, around a time where cover-based-brown-desaturated-testosterone-drowning-manly-generic-shooty games were becoming the norm.

Oh and i feel like I have to mention this, that face on the cinema screen freaked the living f!ck out of me.

haha too right got to agree there its like people are quickly losing any imagination for any other type of game eheh me, I come from the late 80s early 90s back when mastersystem and nes along with megadrive we're all the rage so its been easy to really appreciate what we play today ... especially impressed with sonys lil machine (psp) and the graphic capabilitys available in the palm of your hand... I never imagined i'd become so engrossed in a game while been able to fit it in me back pocket and cant wait for vita...

With the exception of not being able to kill enemies, you just described Restless Dreams. Another SM style remake falls into one of two categories for me: Not enough of a reason for a remake, therefore unnecessary. And completely rob the game of anything resembling SH Mythos (ala Shattered Memories) and mangle the story beyond recognition to the point that it has no right to call itself a Silent Hill game.

I'd rather they just lay the SM formula to rest.

yeah good point I reckon anymore SM style of play would just end up losing complete direction for the series and its already lost enough...
Not that it wasnt enjoyable or entertaining in its own right because it was, and I can understand them wanting to shake things up a bit but lets not lose sight of the true SH

I liked SM a lot, but a lot of the gameplay elements were intimately tied into the plot and were justified by it. I really don't think that SM's premise could really hold up over multiple games because of this. I loved the crap out of it when I played it, but SM's formula should stay a one time thing.

Humm. If we look at movies, the same formula is replicated and sometimes works. As a sequel, there is no guarantee of success, but will be expected - I'm expecting! Course, will be harder to surrender the player again. When I take the ride in the Dahlia's boat, I was suspicious of the end, but wasn't sure. The final sequence (after 3 hours of gaming at 3 of the morning) almost make me cry! I didn't remember such feeling when ending a game, and I play video games since ZX-Spectrum and Atari 2600...

REVEAL SPOILER
the water froze over as you was on dahlia's boat and you made your way across it but next you found yourself swimming and looking beneath you at tragic scenes of death
as it ended it stirred up quite a few emotions - your right I had that lump in the throat feeling a little bit at the end too eheh...
