Why do people like Silent Hill 2?

Post by The_Dark_Adonis on Tue Sep 27, 2011 1:06 pm

In my opinion it was worst then Silent Hill 4 and that's bad I just can't stand the game it gets so boring I don't know why am I missing something when I played it cause it terrible I love silent hill 3 and 1 and beat Silent Hill Homecoming. never beat Silent Hill 4. I did however beat Silent Hill 2 cause I was playing with my buddy awhile back and we talked while we played so if that's the case I was talking when I played it probably missed story line Mainly I only beat Silent hill 2 Cause of my buddy. . If anyone could tell me your opinion please I probably missed a lot I guess the game just felt stell. I loved Silent Hill 3 though.

From the sound of it, it was probably the atmosphere you played it in. Playing it with another person is like watching a Lets Play of it. It takes all involvement out because either A) You're not the one playing or B) It's harder to be more emotionally invested in it.

Silent Hill 2 is generally considered the highest point in the series because of it's rare style of horror and the complexity and ambiguity of the storyline.

Just remember, it only feels slow in the beginning of the game.
I love the Silent Hill Series. The new games did nothing wrong whatsoever, they were developed well, and did things different. I believe that Silent Hill Downpour will make all Silent Hill fans happy. Team Silent doesn't exist, but their series does.

Yeah, the apartments are easily the worst part of the game. Once you get past those, the rest of the game is much better.

Quoted for truth. Finishing the apartments themselves took me only one day less than finishing the entire rest of the game. Mainly because I could hardly bring myself to play. The few moments when you run in the darkness without a flashlight are pretty scary, however.

Yeah, you should try playing it through at least once by yourself and see if it makes a difference. The apt segment might a little boring at first but stick with it and you'll find the rest of the places you go to much more interesting.

Playing it yourself probably helps, but my little sister loves the game too, and she is not a gamer. She's a watcher ROFL

I love SH2 because of its atmosphere. Unlike the other Silent Hill games - which I also consider great games - it feels like a game full of urban exploration. The feeling of abandonment, sadness and melancholy, while driven by this tiny spark of hope in James' mind - I thought this was brilliant.

Aside from that I loved the story a lot, the characters, music, environment. It was like playing a Dean Koontz book.

Really, by the Prison, you'll be wishing that the game would give you another few minutes to sprint around town

Personally in my opinion, I love the apartments, but on the other hand I am a little weird  But by far I thought the best part of the game did start once you hit Pete's Bowl-O-Rama. :) Loved that place.

I would definitely agree with the others on that playing it on your own changes the feel of the game. However, when I was younger I watched my dad play it a few times and thats what got me hooked. Will never forget it, covering my eyes and ears at the "scary parts", though I still could never turn away.

Yeah, I definitely agree that while the apartments had some nice atmosphere (and it did a lot by introducing you to pretty much all the characters you'll be interacting with later as well), it felt like such a task getting through. Even on subsequent playthroughs I found myself scoffing and going "wow, here we go with this ****".

I personally like Silent Hill 2 because of the atmosphere and mind **** moments going on. The story is great too (IMO), and the meanings behind certain things are pretty much open to interpretation.

Also, the red pyramid thing.

I loved Silent Hill 2. The story was brilliant and the atmosphere was great. The characters were interesting, especially Angela, because of her awful past. I loved how the game carried a melancholic tone through the whole game. The story really got me going. oh and, loved the David Lynch references.. especially the red save points are believed to be a reference to David Lynch's "Blue Velvet" When the main character of the film goes in the apartment for the first time. And you'll see a red rectangle (some sort of paper) stuck on the door. So yeah, I fully enjoyed Silent Hill 2

My favorite part is Silent Hill 2,the reason is the best story... It has that psychological thrill and depth that makes you chill... In Silent Hill 2,Pyramid Head is actually James, when I realised it I was like :-o wow... The best story, the creepiest... I also liked combat in SH homecoming, but my favorite part is SH2 by far...

Silent Hill 4 is fucking awesome...so I agree that 2 is potentially worse.

I understand your boredom. It's atmosphere is a calm horror and the combat is lackluster. The storyline is great writing and is on par with many artforms, however. Including complex symbology. It got me into the SH series, but the downside of the story is the way it presents itself is a one shot story. To me, its not as deep as 1 or 3, and I find those far scarier and more entertaining with a story that is still never fully explained.

Lately, I've noticed fans dividing into the ones who love 2 and don't care much for 3, and the ones who loves 3 and though 2 is great, don't care for it so much. I feel some people feel 2 has better themes, I think it's themes are just more obvious, but they seem to become fans of *only* two and I feel that in itself is a problem. This usually goes with dispesing the cult/supernatural, which 2 had in a more subtile manner. (This is ignored most of the time.) The thing is all the games have psyche elements, not just 2. Religion itself is a bunch of ideas and leads to philosophy. Religon--->Philosophy--->science.

Science's concern is the material world, it certainly lacks a lot of philosophy. That's where religion and philosophy are often times used to "fill in the blanks" and all of these ideas are concepts of animals of intelligence such as ourselves and it's all important. With 2, people seem to forget this. This is in spite of the fact, that two presents itself as a "grey" area and in terms of that on different subjects all the Silent Hills do.

Honestly, I got over 2's horror awhile back. But I'm still scared of 3, even tho I've got a good grasp of what's going on. So, there's 2's dilemma. Once you've figured it out and understand it, it loses it's fear factor and impact on you emotionally.
