The opening moments are scary. Walking into a deserted, rusted Amusement park. But then when Heather wakes from of the dream and call her father a smile rose upon my face. I instantly took a like to both Heather and the game. Especially when she has her first interaction with Douglas. She showed herself to be a very strong character. The graphic’s look as clean and sharp as the SH2. The voice over are great. The looks of the game is also good. Especially the transition into the other world.
The characters are terrific. Douglas is a very likeable and lovable character. And when near the end he lays down wounded I did hope he would survive. Claudia is a very creepy and cryptic character and as the game progresses she becomes more vindictive. Vincent I always saw as a demon in disguise who say’s half truths and half lies. Heather is the best of the characters on SH3. She is very likable and believable as a person. She has some terrific moments. Slamming the door in anger at Vincent and Kicking the bathtub in anger.
The Environment is great. Again like the previous games there is an attention to detail. The mall looks good. The construction site and apartment look scary and rustic. The subway looks great. The hospital looks very fluid and rustic which as always remind me of the look of Hospital in SH1. But for the best place is the Lakeside amusement park. Especially Borley Haunted Mansion . I have always thought it to be the most scariest moment of the game.
The monster are good. It was to see the return of the split worm. Insane cancer I felt always had an intimidating presence. The pendulums are scary. The Sluper’s are just annoying I never really liked them. But one monster I did like was Missionary. I always felt it was an unsung monster. The looks of the monster is thrilling and the battle of the monster is entertaining and dramatic.
The soundtrack is good. It isn’t my most favourite but it certainly work with in the game and it deserves a lot of credit as it was featured the first to feature Mary Elizabeth McGlynn and Joe Romersa.
The story I was always going to like as it follows on from SH1. The story is emotionally filled and very dramatic. The moment when Heather witnesses the body of Harry is captivating and what follow is entertaining. The scene with Heather and Douglas looks down on Harry cover body is very sad and emotional. And at the amusement park when Heather walks off and Douglas lift his gun and aims it at Heather was a very thrilling scene. But my favourite cut scene is the scene in the car with Heather and Douglas driving to Silent Hill. Heather’s monologue is both beautifully spoken.
The ending I have always believed is Canon is the normal ending. I always wanted Heather to have a happy ending. One touch I liked was that Heather pretended to be possessed in a humorous attempt to scare Douglas. I feel it added a lot to Heather character that she can still be happy despite what has happened to her during the events of the game.
Silent Hill 3 is a fantastic games and certainly deserves all the credit it gets. Its was as scary and entertaining as the previous instalments. For it epitomizes what Silent Hill is all about.
