Silent Hill 1 Harry VS Shattered Memories Harry

Post by Wooden Plank on Wed Jun 15, 2011 4:22 pm

Well, personally I prefer the original Harry. He had a kickass hairstyle and devotion to his daughter.
Shattered Memories Harry... Well, I haven't played that yet, but from what I can tell, he doesn't have the hairstyle and the inability to use a nearby pipe to bash the brains of a nearby monster.

Who do you prefer? :?:
I love the Silent Hill Series. The new games did nothing wrong whatsoever, they were developed well, and did things different. I believe that Silent Hill Downpour will make all Silent Hill fans happy. Team Silent doesn't exist, but their series does.

Don't get me wrong; I loved Shattered Memories but Earth Prime (original) Harry would mop the floor with Earth PT-802 (memories) Harry.

My thoughts on SH1 Harry can be summed up with:
"How does one kill an evil demonic supergod, because he's Harry fucking Mason!!!" :lol:

Harry from SH1 by far. The only time I almost cried was when you found him in SH3. Never did that with a game before, haven't since. So he had a profound emotional impact on me.

I like them both.
KCET-Harry knew how to kick ass, didn't give a shit about bubblegum, and generally braved a hell on earth to get Cheryl back.
Climax-Harry was an interesting character, with so many different sides to his personality.
I personally liked Climax-Harry's voice-actor better, because he captured the character so well. (No disrespect to KECT-Harry's voice actor, or anybody who prefers him. Just my opinion. Feel free to pick on me like crazy, though.)

@Xuchilbara
That was one of the saddest scenes in Silent Hill 3 to me, as well. I also felt a murderous rage towards the Missionary monster, and Claudia. (Unfortunately, it was a cutscene on Silent Hill Media, so I couldn't do anything about it. :x )
I don't get mad; I get even - which isn't normal, for someone as odd as me.

Oh! Also, I don't think SM Harry said the magic phrase;

Have you see a little girl? Short black hair, just turned seven last month.

Warning may contain unmarked spoilers. You have been warned.

The SH1 Harry Mason just kicked all kinds of ass. Sure SM Harry had more character development but he was kinda a coward. While SH1 Harry would stop at nothing to rescue his daughter, SM Harry ran from every creature like a scared little child so he wasn't a very protective father.
No matter wherever you go, or whatever you do, I'll be in the closet of your mind, squatting naked and aroused.

Huh? I thought Original Harry had some decent backstory;

Single parent, writer. A man who has a snappy fashion sense and an incredibly devoted father who will stop at nothing to protect his daughter. Widowed. His wife died whilst they were raising Cheryl.(If you can read Japanese, read the novel and play the play novel, the cool thing is that Play novel gives Cybil backstory.) Also, Harry wanted to save everyone in the town.

That's not backstory, that's mere info bits. We really know very little about Original Harry's backstory. Of course, that's because the game isn't about Harry.

It's really comparing apples to oranges. In fairness to New Harry, he runs because Cheryl tells him right away that he must, that fighting them is impossible. The Raw Shocks are also far more aggressive and persistent than any enemy Original Harry encounters, and they work in groups. Harry doesn't fight them because that would be really stupid.
The above post is intended to be factual, unless it isn't.

The sewer monsters were aggressive, and they worked in a group, often in trios.
Same goes for: Birds, Children, Dogs, and occasionally nurses. And don't even say that the birds were unpersistent.
Also, since when is Harry taking advice seriously from Cheryl? Sure, she needs help from her dad, and she wants him to be safe...

Silent Hill 1 Harry VS Shattered Memories Harry

I've played the original game enough to know that it's entirely possible to lose the flying shits without any major hassle, even on hard mode. Monsters always give up chase after about thirty seconds and can only hit you if you move in a straight line or stand still.

As for the others, they never actively hunt you in groups. They usually won't even bother you unless you alert them to your presence. The only time they ever gang up on you is when you're unlucky enough to find more than one in the same place, and then, it's merely a matter of getting out of that area, because they can't follow. Otherwise, and especially on the streets, the monsters are usually located at such distances that group tactics rarely come into play. And, Harry can outrun any of them flat-out, except for the Air Screamers.

In Shattered Memories, on the other hand, it's almost impossible to lose the Raw Shocks. They never give up on the chase until circumstances force it, and they are almost always in packs. He can't even outrun them in a stretch, he has to use obstacles to slow them. Fighting them would simply not be possible. That's what Cheryl says to Harry, and I'd say he took that advice to heart, since he, yunno, followed it to the letter.

Which is easier to fight? An enemy that's attempting to land blows on you (swinging claws, biting, etc) or an enemy that is trying to just grab onto you? I'd say the ones who have to aim smaller parts of themselves are easier to fight.

It is easier to hit, than it is to hold. Ask any martial artist.

@hairymason
Yeah, but when held, it is harder to hit hard.

@what
Those Raw Shocks are like generic pop-band fangirls - only slightly less as obnoxious! :lol:
