As an old SH fan i totally disagree with it. For me this film is just a freaking mess of elements from four original games: monsters, characters, music, conceptions, worlds - all mashed up within 1:30 of time that makes no sense. It's just stupid and thrashy as many american horror movies are. For example, a gigantic and powerful "Pyramid Head"!! :lol: What a stupid vision on how this monster should look like! When i saw him at first time in film i was just freaking laughing! Besides, what is James Sanderland's personal monster doing here, huh? What a mess... And that's where the crap like Origins or Homecumming or whatever started to appear. Man, i just feel pity for SH series. It should be closed after SH4, but...uhh, fail. Well I see that all people around just feel good about it, so maybe its just me or maybe there are only next-gen sh fans, i don't know. Anyway, don't worry guys, it was just my IMO, i didn't meant to offend anybody). Good luck with SHM2 and SH8!

^As far as the games go, I honestly don't know if the series can survive 8 bombing.
As far as the second movie goes.....
um....
I'm praying.

it was nice, remember...gans says that a game is a game and a movie is a movie, there 2 different things so that is why he switched it up...of course we see this with every movies, no movie based on a game is loyal to it's video games...

Music = good
Acting = good
Effects = fairly good
Story and overall quality = :|

Good effort, Mr Gans, but not quite there. Still a fairly good movie, and I quite enjoy watching it... it's just not a good Silent Hill movie.

I think they should have gotten Quentin Tarantino to direct it :lol: that would have been some freaky s#&@ right there!

Oh goddess.
I just got all kinds of cross over ideas that nobody should ever have about Silent Hill and Kill Bill.....

Oh, and I'm also gonna take a minute to apologize for spamming so much. The internet has been my escapism lately....yeah....to much going on irl lately....

I think I oughta apologise for my spamming. I think basically almost every post has at least something from me in it :lol: I get bored so very easily, and I enjoy discussing these things with SHC.

...I wonder whether Tarantino would have made the film better if he had directed it? :confused: no doubt it would have been very graphic, but...wow... :D

True story: I once thought that if anything happened to Akira, that Mark Snow was going to take over the SH music makin.' It's perfectly fine to imagine other people doing SH! :D

As far as spamming goes, I guess it's ok until someone gives us a red flag or something. I've been so much worse about it lately because life is just too weird.

Mark Snow? Never heard of him 'til just now :lol: I never thought that Akira would stop doing the music for Silent Hill...just never crossed my mind. This stuff I've heard so far from Dan Licht, however, is pretty impressive (not Akira-level, but still pretty damn good.)

As for the spamming...*crosses fingers in a diabolical finger-pyramid of evil* :twisted: mwahaha...nah, I'm willing to toe the line if it becomes unbearable to other users. I like it here, and I don't want to get kicked out. :D

The film literally could have opened at the scene where Rose wakes up after the crash, and been just as, if not far more effective. I think the film held the audiences hand in a lot of ways, and SH was never about NOT thinking and interpreting and having it all spoon fed to you.

I understand the film realm and the pressure from studios, etc, but I think if Gans looked at it more like an experience that is not all clear cut and definable and makes you interpret in the way you would while watching a David Lynch film, it would of been way truer to the material and would of had a much better chance of capturing that weird, undefinable essence/feel of the games.

For example, the strong relationship between SH2 and blue velvet: the feel, the despondency, the strong isolation of characters and strong symbolism. THAT is what SH deserves on screen and it's because of that that I feel like spiritually, movies like session 9 and Blue Velvet are more of the SH movie than the actual silent hill movie is.

I have no doubt in my mind that the studio looks at a film like silent hill as nothing more than a film with an existing, established market, and then on top of that hopefully a new market. They try to appeal to both: to us, by "appeasing" us with things like a completely out of context pyramid head, while making the script so stupid and easy that anyone can 'get into it'.

Basically, to me the movie is patronizing. It took a hugely imaginative concept full of nuance and WIDE chances for invention, and made it into a paint by numbers story with some strong visuals.

Maybe one day the real film will come out, a total reinvention that gives it what it deserves.Until then.... SH2 IN 3D YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH........

RE: The story.

Felt like Gans played approx 1/2 hour of SH1 & 2 Hours of SH2.
(Yes I know what he told everyone-but did he? Really?)
Saw Pyramid Head & Decided to nail everything together with a rusty hammer and some sticky tape.
It wasn't exactly shawshank strength storyline.

When you compare it to the first game, it looks like a horrid cash-in.

When you compare it to other video game movies, it looks intriguing, gorgeous, and unbelievably wonderful.

I saw it before I'd ever heard of Silent Hill (and wasn't told ahead of time that it was a horror movie!) and I thought it was an amazing piece of work. After reading up on the game and watching walkthroughs, I still thought the movie was amazing and an excellent interpretation of the game's story. (Let's face it. Who wants to watch a step-by-step copy of the game?)

Because of all this, I think the reason I've heard people dissing it is because they didn't go into the theater with an open mind. They went into the theater thinking of the game they'd seen and played, expecting to see it on the screen. That's no way to view a piece of art.

@Jane
Yeah, the movie was actually what got me into Silent Hill, because I found a poster of it in one of my gaming magazines that I picked up in a showbag from a cattle show, and it intrigued me one day last year...so I Wikipedia'd it, and the rest...is history. :lol:

I agree, didn't expect to watch a paint by numbers of two games hashed together-but that's what it really felt like.
Even for us of an open mind ;)
