PS2 Port

Post by NarooN on Tue May 10, 2011 8:16 pm

I never played the PS2 port, only played the original PSP version when it first came out. Haven't played Origins since. I wanna play it again but am looking into the PS2 version since I wouldn't mind playing it on my TV.

Are there any glitches or oddities I should know about with the PS2 port?

It looks too dark.

I found it so dark that it was literally unplayable, and I tried three different TVs and every settings tweak imaginable.

Don't even bother. I got the PSP version later and it was much more visible.
The above post is intended to be factual, unless it isn't.

Oop, I remember hearing about that glitch a lot. I might as well just dig out my PSP copy and play that again. Might just get the PSP component cables and hook it up to my TV and play like that.

It's a DIRECT port, so the graphics look exactly the same... which are gorgeous by PSP standards, but look like cancer by PS2 standards... I've personally never had a problem with the lighting though. I hope you guys aren't being wimps and playing it with the lights on. :D

I know perfectly that is a direct port, I'm not talking about graphics, and I think as we all play to any Silent Hill in the dark room, and as you can see from these two screenshots, with the same settings, the light, the feeling, is different, the 'atmosphere is another light, penetrates the window, and a feeling of being in the fog even inside, for the broken windows, ps2 port in the atmosphere is a false atmosphere of Blue Creek SH2 botched, it will be a direct port, and i repeat the settings are the same , but I do see significant differences in feelings, maybe I'm crazy ! :D but it gives to em a total different feeling ! :)

Your English is good, don't worry man.

It's a direct port for the most part, but there are differences in the visuals that I was already aware of. The PS2 version has higher-res textures and runs at a more consistently-smooth framerate. It has better lighting effects, which are evident in that screenshot right there.

I might just suck it up and get it on the PS2 anyway, even with the supposed brightness glitch.

is in fact quite understand what you say, but I say that more light every now and then, silent hill, it does not hurt, too dark, always dark, keep a constant pace without variation, instead of diving in sudden contrasts, and by chance, the error light of the PSP, plays into the hands of my bizarre tastes of psychological drama, and so despite the graphics and the texture is much lower than that for ps2 I prefer it! maybe it's a matter affective eheh

I've still yet to play Origins and I don't have a PS2 but by the sounds of it getting on PS2 is like a roulette. Hopefully it won't be too dark when I play it!

I personaly think that this game shouldn't have EVER been on PS2. I wish they would have made another Silent Hill game for PSP besides Shattered Memories. I'm glad that the Playstation Vita (Aka NGP, PSP2) has a Silent Hill game already announced for it, exclusively for it.

The graphics don't look exactly the same. There's noticeably more detail put into everything particularly the environments. The characters themselves also look a bit different some more than others.

For starts Lisa's hair is no longer short now going past the shoulders like her SH1 incarnation. Alessa's face....ugh, I hate how Alessa's face looks in the PS2 version. Looks very blank and her eyes just make her look dazed. Travis looks a bit uglier (as far as art style goes) than he does in Origins.

But other than that everyone else looks the same for the most part.

Also, you'll notice in the beginning of the game of the PSP version running along the road you'll see some boxes stacked up on the left side by the telephone pole. In the PS2 version this is replaced by a old, battered looking Jeep vehicle (a poke towards a certain somebody in SH1).

If it's plagued with the glitches everyone's claimed, then yes. If not, no lol.

If you're already playing it I don't see the reason to stop. Have you even experienced any glitches? If it's playing fine just keep going. The PS2 version is by no means game breaking.

I've only played the PS2 version, but I've been told that the PSP one had less glitches, either way be prepared to have the weapons menu fuck with you big time by showing the wrong icons for the wrong items. Also don't be surprised if the music stops for no apparent reason and the controls are unresponsive. Good luck with your journey either way

ok ive gone on and on about Origins 8-) as I just completed it the otherday on me PSP ... Ive never actually seen the PS2 version myself but the thing that drew me the most to the PSP version was the fact I could plug some very descent headgear into it and and play SH in any darkened area anywhere anytime and have all that atmosphere and quality creepiness in ma pocket - to go! ... its like fastfood SH style - sweet
someday you will find me - caught beneath the landslide...

Haven't played Origins since it came out on the PSP (which I no longer own). As I still own a PS2, I ordered Origins over the internet and it arrived in this morning's post. I'll play it later in the week and post my thoughts ;)
