What scared you the most? *SPOILERS MOST LIKELY TO OCCUR*

Post by TraceBASS on Fri Jan 28, 2011 6:11 am

Hey, all. Having finally finished Silent Hill 2 (w00tness :D ), I am finally able to start this discussion:

What scared you the most in the game? Be it place, monster, image, sound, etc?

For me, it was the Labyrinth. cramped walls, the even higher likelihood to get lost than usual, running into Pyramid Head because you are a total moron and when the wrong way/got lost...good God, that place gives me the chills.
I don't get mad; I get even - which isn't normal, for someone as odd as me.

The noises in the apartment scared me the most.
That whole section of the games I loved.

What scared you the most? *SPOILERS MOST LIKELY TO OCCUR*

That's actually a difficult question for me to answer, because every time I play the second game, I have a different reaction to different areas.

The apartments really creep me out most of the time. The labyrinth is very memorable, but I somehow manage to avoid the big dog most of the time. (Lucky me!)

I'm not really sure what in 2 "scares" me. I usually see it as a piece of artwork, so it ruins the spooky mood. :D

I almost forgot-congratulations for finally beating it! Now you know why it's generally regarded as the favorite, right?

It looks like things are getting too spicy for the pepper.

Thanks, SilentWren! ^_^
I suppose the fact that it's the only SH game I can play on my MacBook makes it more likeable for me. I managed to get the In Water ending, which was cool. :)
I really would like to get SH4: The Room, but the hauntings and my horrible internet plan prevent me thus far.

The game felt beautiful (Ah yes, don't look at me like that. I think I am sane), but it was not exactly scary, at least not in day. When played at 12 pm, SH 2 and SH3 were extremely scary, but then I would say that all of the game was scary. My scariest moment during the first play was one of those creatures that hung on its arms beneath the floor (Came as a surprise to me), and during my second playthrough the scariest part was the Lying Figure crouching out from under the van (Beside the dead guy you have to take the key from to reach the apartment block). That part, for some reason, had me nervous for another 10 minutes to play the game.

Well, the whole idea of being in Silent Hill is that you are insane. Nevertheless-*stern stare*

*reminiscent chuckle* The ol' pop-out-from-under-the-van trick, eh?
I can remember scaring a schoolmate of mine last year on a school excursion with it. I turned the volume on my laptop full blast, and made it jump out. The poor kid jumped halfway to heaven. I yelled out in surprise, too (such a mean kid, ain't I? ), but yeah...that's what happened. *guitar tagline*

<cracks knuckles>

REVEAL SPOILER
Firstly the encounter with Pyramid Head in the labyrinth. Totally didn't see that one coming. I had played the game two or three times prior and had not found him there. On this particular playthrough I got to that point without saving once and the bugger slayed me in one chop right there. I jumped out of my skin and cursed the wretched game. All that work down the drain. Was on a good time too. So yeah, now I have a bit of a phobia about heading down there and always save beforehand.

Secondly, inserting James' hand into the hole in the moth room. I know nothing happens but I was with my ex-girlfriend when I first played SH2 and I remember her clutching my arm during that scene. Her nails were hurting me and I told her to calm down but I was just as apprehensive as she was, if truth be told.

Abstract Daddy. Now I did laugh when I first fought this dude. I was like "WTF! A walking table!" But the laughs soon turn to pathetic cries when you're low on ammo and cornered by two of these bitches. I was even attacked by an invisible Daddy once; must've been a glitch but it was still stuff of nightmares.

Toluca Prison. The voice of the Prisoners in each of the corridors sent a shiver down my spine. And when you temporarily get stuck in one of the cells was a standout "KFGHKFGHKFGH!!!" moment.

Last but not least, the toilet! Knocking on that toilet door gave me the biggest jump in any videogame, period. When I first encountered it, the bottle of Asahi I was swigging from went up in the air, followed by cold beer gushing out of my nostrils. Such a simple and predictable scare but that demonic cackle worked to great effect.

I have more but those are the main scares for me.

@Dallow

1.) I know. I went down that ladder, and looked left, and was "Oh, a Lying-HOLY S%@T, PYRAMID HEAD!!! "
2.) You must've felt like Alex, I imagine.
3.) A walking table? That's a great idea! *jots down idea in notepad*
4.) For some strange reason, the Prison made me jubilant. If I were James, I honestly would have skipped through that entire level. In fact, I was so retarded I completely missed the Hunting Rifle. *pats self on back*
5.) Also missed it on the Prison level.

The thing that made PH's appearance there so shocking is that he's a boss character and you usually get some indication (be it cutscene or music cue) before you confront bosses. Not in this case; he's plonked right there in front of you with no warning whatsoever.

Indeed - the fact that I could see his bare tushie did not help at all. I mean...it's right there!! I just ran 'round the corner, stole the Knife, then realised this was not the way I was supposed to go, and bolted back past PH before he could turn me into an olive, and put me in a HUGE martini.

I don't understand why people say PH's backside is showing? I mean, yeah, that was the way they designed the costume for the movie. But in the game, PH's fleshy robe thing covers all around him.

Even that zipper seam stops at his lower back.

^Yeah, I think most of the people who mention that are talking about the movie PH.

While his backside is not out on display, you can definitely see some monster bumpage underneath that robe. Either that or I'm thinking dirty, which is probably the case.

The labyrinth freaked me out just because I knew I would run into something, haha. I also remember freaking out in the first Pyramid Head fight because I couldn't beat him... it wasn't until he left down the stairs that I noticed it was a timed thing instead of a real fight...woops.

When James fought the Flesh Lips monsters. I was low on health and I had no clue what was coming up.

It's been a very long time since I last played Silent Hill 2, because I lost my copy of it (yes, I'm a big moron). But what really scared me was not in the game, sadly; it was the censored scene with James suffocating Mary. Gosh, that was heavy. Other than that, I didn't expect the Pyramid Heads to suicide in the last Maria death. That wasn't scary, just unexpected.
Everything I know is wrong. Everything I do, it just comes undone. And everything is torn apart - oh and it's the hardest part. That's the hardest part.

In the "Born From a Wish" scenario when Maria opens the door to the room Earnest is in and there's nobody inside I just want to turn inside out. Not because "Oh no, I'll bet she was talking to a ghost!", but because I imagine the despair this makes her feel, the one thing she cold hang onto, the last thing that kind of tethered her to existance in her own mind (and perhaps reality itself) is gone, or worse yet, was never really there at all. What a terrible revelation, you truly are completely alone. That very notion scares me to death.

^I actually have to agree with that.
The slow pan (around Earnest's room) also felt creepy and sad at the same time. Born from a Wish added more the mood and story than people give it credit for. There wasn't a lot of actual information divulged, but it made the game feel more complete to me.

It looks like things are getting too spicy for the pepper.
