Looks good, but in my opinion the developers sound kinda cocky....

Anyway, I noticed something intriguing about the one of the comments in the magazine:

http://www.silenthillmemories.net/sh8/a ... 214_06.jpg

"If you look at the previous games, we took the southeast corner of the map that was never explored before." Says producer David Shatsky.

I'm guessing that southeast corner he's referring to is around the Observation Deck in South Vale.

Why do they half to make a new location? And why add a subway system in Silent Hill?

The last time I checked, small tourist towns in New England usually don't have rapid transportation....
When spring arrives, the infamous fog rolls off Toluca Lake and into Silent Hill.

They probably just don't want to work with the same old locations as before, as evidenced by not having schools and hospitals. Unfortunately, that makes it a bit strange for a "small tourist town," because small tourist towns aren't sprawling metropolises. But since it is friggin huge at this point, they probably thought they may as well do the subway thing. And we don't know what the subway is like, it could be a stop between larger cities (I don't mean that we use it that way, but rather, that would explain its existence in a small town). I don't know. I'm just gonna wait and see.

The only negative news I've read so far (IMO) is weapon degradation... That just never works... Unless they do it in a way that totally makes sense without being annoying, it could cramp the whole experience as much as not putting in an inverted camera in Homecoming... (damn that still burns me up....)

I agree it doesn't work. It does sound good in theory to make things "realistic," but just look at 0rigins. A fucking sledgehammer is not going to break from hitting a couple of nurses, esp. when it takes multiple hits to kill them (so he can't be swinging it all that hard, really, when some of the weapons should be strong enough to bust some skulls). I would probably prefer to suspend my disbelief and have nonbreakable weapons, and to be able to keep any number of weapons, but whatever. I'll play it when it comes out and see how it works.

I've seen people saying it's gonna be like SHSM, which I can't understand. I get a Homecoming-y vibe from it somehow, but I am hoping that won't be the case.

The vibe I get is sorta like a cross-in-between F.E.A.R. and Alone In The Dark. creepy...

I reckon, if they can figure out how to utilise sound like in SH3 ('cuz the Nightmare Shopping Centre just scares the cow biscuits out of me ), because that will definitely go a long way.

But that's a pre-conceived call to make. A little pre-mature. I was hurt by Homecoming, too. But the concepts that Vatra are presenting are interesting. Homcoming did not bring anything to the table that was substantial.

Vatra has alot to prove here. Hopefully they know that and will make the game accordingly.

I think it will mean kegs and kegs of Heineken! Then water to rehydrate. It better not be or I will begin to think it is about me. Which it can't be, I've never been to prison and I don't have cool 80's jock hair.

Here are some reasons why I feel it's like an evolved version of Shattered Memories:
- Breakable weapons < SH: Origins < Tomm Hulett Involved

- Another attempt to include an element other than the darkness – Rain (Hulett and other devs involved)

- Gameplay choices affect the story (and not just game result/rating/etc)

- Chase sequences like SH: SM

- Real time transformations

- Events in boss battles, which developers of Silent Hill: Shattered Memories had implied they would implement in SM – if they included any boss battles at all

- Reference to the map's south-east location, which was a subject they had indicated when developing SH:SM

- No inventory (although you hardly had anything that could be hold in an inventory)

- Side quests parallel to the “open world exploration” of SH: SM

- Involvement of Hulett (lol) - (Why? I think he was the mastermind behind the changes in SH: SM and that this is the case with this game too)

Also, breakable and variable weapons and environments like those in Alone In The Dark. Plus, Alan Wake visuals. Dunno why these two games, but again those come to mind when I watch the trailer.

Again, I know that these might sound a bit stretched but that’s how I see it. Also, you are right about the Homecoming vibe but not as much - as far as I'm concerned. Mostly the specific-weapon-for-specific-situation and QTE (mostly in button promt form) thingies. I mostly recall QTEs from Resident Evil 5 (here in a more event-like form). I neither loved nor hated them. But my main problem was that most of the times they got me by surprise and I died a few times at QTEs and it was kinda annoying. They could be an interesting addition if implemented properly but I think it would be better off without (added gameplay feature but they ruin the flow of the story and events in my opinion - and this game seems to depend on flow as much as SM did). They will use different difficulty levels too which are a characteristic of the older games.

:ugeek: :P

It can work. I've seen games where it did (SM), and games where it did not (SW: Force Unleashed II)

Executed correctly, it could work. If it's not a life-or-death situation like RE4, then it could work.

Piece0fSheet666 wrote:No inventory (although you hardly had anything that could be hold in an inventory)

How could that work? Even Alone In The Dark had some measure of inventory. Surely a rational person, especially a prisoner would realise "Hey, a gun! I haven't any ammo, but surely I'll find some! I might keep it!".

Alone In The Dark may not have been that scary, but it was still an enjoyable and immersive game, especially with the controls.

...I've been extremely repetitive in this reply. wow...

Don't take it like I'm critisizing what I see as similarities or things having a common line. I'm just pointing it out.
