What did you think of the movie? How would you rate it?

Post by what on Tue Jun 30, 2009 12:00 pm

I'm not a fan of the fact that the movie's red pyramid thing has superseded that found in Silent Hill 2.

But that, and the elements in Homecoming should be blamed less on the movie and more on the unwillingness of Homecoming's designers to exhibit a little original creative thought in regards to specific aesthetics.

That being said, I think Christophe Gans did an absolutely terrific job on his end. Roger Avary, on the other hand, goes to bed without dessert every night for eternity when he dies and goes to hell.
The above post is intended to be factual, unless it isn't.

Agreed.

Christophe Gans is a really good director (I really like Crying Freeman) but he had a pretty shoddy script to go off.

It's good for a videogame movie. I'd give it an 7/10

if you like silent hill watch Jacob's Ladder.

I hated it when I first saw it.
I was more troubled with my identity than I am now sorta.
I have come around since its release and love it a lot now.

For me its really deeply connected with Tideland and that is how I figured out the movie in a functional way and have been figuring out the games (as well as my own life) more the last couple years. Plus a bunch of other things but yeah basically.

I gave my vote to 5 - Excellent, couldn't be better! because rating things is totally silly I often seem to feel like.

I thought it was a great movie when it first came out. Having honestly not played any of the games, I didn't have much to go on, and now that I've played all of them, it is still a great movie. Watching it each time, I am still pulling symbolic things out, and I even wrote a ten page expository essay on it in senior year of HS (2007), and educated people on the dark awesomeness of the movie. However, there were some things I would like to see changed.
REVEAL SPOILER
PH's appearance was a little off. It made no sense except for that it might have been a symbol of the Red God, inflicting pain on the cult members. Even that is a stretch.

Rose, I don't think could have freaked out any more than she did in the movie, but Rhada Michell did a wonderful job with the script that she was dealt.
I did like the fact that he put a new spin on the game's events. Gans feminized the movie, making it very different. I'm all for that, since I thought Alice Krige revived her coldness from her Borg Queen days, and used it full force as Christabella. Debora Kera Unger did an amazing job as Dahlia, but one thing I didn't get... Were they supposed to be "sisters", as mentioned in the flashback, in the literal sense or the cult sense?

I agree that Roger Avary could have done loads better with the script, though.

It doesn´t stick with the "God will be born" theme. The special effects were good though. I give it a 6/10.

I would give Silent Hill (2006) a 3 out of 5

I loved the monsters throughout the movie* regardless of their meanings
They stayed true to the first game* as far as the bones of the story goes
At times it seemed almost like watching a playthrough of a new Silent Hill game than a movie
The ending split previous Silent Hill fans and normal moviegoers into believing different things
ie. Normal moviegoers interpret the movie as either one of two things
1) Rose died in the car crash and the entire movie was a delusion of a dying woman concerned for her child
2) Rose died in the car crash and is now suffering eternal damnation in the catholic 'purgatory' (Read the back of the DVD case of the Silent Hill movie, is specfically states that Rose finds a group of people in a sort of purgatory.) For making a deal with the devil (Dark Allessa) to save her daughter.

While previous Silent Hill fans have an extensive amunt of theories they have come to through careful examination of the movie (notice that i did NOT say overexaminating)

I am sorry for my English it's second language and school learned.

Actually that last sentence was the only one with a grammatical error. English is my second language too. :D
I agree with what you said. It was pretty cool if you leave aside the original plot.

"it was okay"

great when I think about the place, the atmosphere and the music.
at least until when they reach the hotel.
then it's a downward spiral.
the whole witch thing kinda annoyed me.
so yeah. nice atmosphere, awful plot.

but I'm still excited like 13yo schoolgirl whenever I hear about it. or see it. or..whatever.

Yeah that's how I feel. The Atmosphere, Scenery, Even the costuming was awesome...but the story kinda...well...blah.

That Question To Me Was A No Brainer, It Could Have Used Some Improvements, If HArry Mason Was The Main Charater And Not Rose It Would Be Even Closer Related To SH1 And The Graphics Good Have Been Improved To Look More Real, Hopefully They Spend A Lot Of Time And Money On Silent Hill 2 To Make It More Realistic And Beiliveable,

Yeah he changed the gender because he's a sexist a-whole. See below comments how I know that.. -_-;

It was alright. I appreciate how they left the ending of the movie open ended to give the same feeling of a multi-ending game. The atmosphere was AMAZINGLY spot on.

Still there were issues with it. Namely the extremely sexist attitudes portrayed by the writer (ganz?). Changing Harry to a women solely because he believes only women can care for there kid like that. *he says this in his interview in the SH experience UMD* That pissed me off. grr... There's also the few moments of shoddy acting. The pyramid head being added for no reason (well...I guess because he's iconic but that's still a pretty shallow reason) and the rewriting of the story to be more confusing then the original game.

I will say this. For a horror movie it's decent to good. For a Silent Hill movie it was decent to poor. It defentally could have been done better. So it depend on how your looking at it/what your comparing it to.

I have a few twinges about the movie here and there..but the ONE thing that bothered me was that they...they did the "Fanfiction" move that i hate it when people do that in adaptations;

It would have been better off if it had RATHER stuck to the original storyline OR made it at ENTIRELY DIFFERENT story
But it just bothered me that the movie just had the overall feeling of "Didn't they like Silent Hill?" I mean the fact that they changed SOOO MUUUCH to the original plot just bothered me;
If they had made an entirely DIFFERENT story about someone who comes to Silent Hill instead of taking half of the story from Silent Hill i probably would have liked it better...

I mean SURE it was a good movie; for a movie. But for a SILENT HILL movie...it just didn't feel...right
That's also why I kindof have a really uncomfortable towards Shattered Memories...it just feels like a fanfiction (Don't you agree?)

And the fact that they picked the husband because he looked like James(TRUE STORY) and changed Harry's sex and made them a couple also seems like a bad slashfic...just sayin...

no no no it was like Sharlen or something that is too freakin weird for me to remember and stuffz

And they also changed the realworld/fogworld/otherworld's qualities; her husband SHOULD have been able to see her (like how laura could see James) and the otherworld needed more fire, brimstone, rust, and blood; IT IS WHAT MAKES UP THE OTHERWORLD AND THEY LEAVE IT ALL OOOUUUTTT

And Lisa wasn't Lisa...they should have kept her part the same...it made me cry when i was little and was playing Silent Hill..and they just took it away

how funny, the scariest part to me was when they showed all of the children in Alessa's class together watching her come out of the bathroom after being molestedness.

Those children all dressed in those uniforms...for some reasons they creeped me out...
