One of my friends brought this up. She said that the director asked the question, "When does Rose actually die?" or a question along those lines.

Personally, I think it's when she whacks her head on the steering wheel of her car. Cause for the rest of the movie she and her daughter are in the parallel dimension (the foggy place, not otherworld.)

What do you guys think?

I was not aware that she was dead. People in silent hill don't have to die to see the otherworld. And at the end of the movie she goes home, does she not? To return to a (n almost) normal lifestyle?

Her home is shrouded in fog. So yeah, she's dead, just like everyone else that was in Silent Hill.

So I suppose Sharon dies with her, and they are in some sort of Limbo?

What? Are you seriously saying that to be in silent hill you have to be dead? That doesn't even make any sense, not to mention that if it were fact it couldn't even be canonical...

I agree. I don't think they died. They seem to be in purgatory at the end of the movie.

Crappy ending anyway if you ask me.

Total agreement. I really only like, maybe the first 20 minutes? Half an hour? The real star of the show is the hardcore make-up/ set department. Those guys did an awesome job. But the movie kid of sucked. Balls.

OK, so Fungo, when are you gonna start a new topic in this section called Silent Hill 2 Movie? I'm tapping my fingers and praying for more info - but the Red God ain't taking any calls!! :twisted:

I agree that the ending could have bee more.....fulfilling....but now you can't even begin to guess what happens in SH2 movie!

I think Alessa or the devil is keeping them since ALessa did let her mother live.

I hated the ending but I loved the rest of the movie. But the fact that Rose always seems to be in dead SH land is kinda weird.

Ok I'm trying to figure out how you got the idea that Sharon and Rose are dead, considering that earlier in the movie we saw the likes of Cybil and Christabella .

If you were already dead, you wouldn't "die" again y'know? Theres other things there too. I haven't seen any proof btw of the connection w/ spirits that the Silent Hill in the game had either.

Nothing wrong with that. Don't ever be afraid to ask a question about the series, because that is what these forums are for: to discuss all the details and theories regarding the Silent Hill universe. But, no, Rose and Sharon didn't die. The town simply 'took' them. The town cries out to lost souls and entraps them within its execrable realm. And I agree that the ending sucked noodles... But apparently it'll be dealt with in the sequel.

One of my colleagues said that there's gotta be a sequel showing how Rose and Sharon get back to reality. I explained that this is the nature of Silent Hill. Chances are that they would never return to a normal life. I also explained that with the way the town seems to draw lost/guilty souls, the next film will be same location - different story. It is called Silent Hill after all. Its all about the town. ahhh, beer in Heaven's Night anyone?

The part that i found wierd was that when christopher drives to the normal silent hill, officer gucci said that the car was empty. so if she died on impact shouldn't her and sharon's body still be in the car?

And they never even mention cybil's bike!

The movie illustrates the fine line between the Otherworld and Reality, a line one can "jump across; leaving Reality for the most part.

I always thought that the Otherworld was connected to the "afterlife," though. It would make sense of Christopher smelling Rose's perfume and the open door at the end. In that sense, she'd be a living "ghost" trapped in the foggy world (or like Fungo said, their own "purgatory").

Exactly.

How much of this movie is cannon anyways? Seems to... drag off a lot. Is this just a re-telling of Harry's scenario, using different characters? Never quite dissected this.

Loved the movie btw. It's Silent Hill, I loved it, and I wasn't disappointed. It was mysterious, interesting, and captured my attention, and that's what I hoped for.

I sadly claim that still the best game based movie is Mortal Kombat
