The only caveat is that you have to add the money spent on advertising and marketing, which probably isn't much for Silent Hill. I'd say they probably spent no more than $5 million, which keeps Silent Hill way in the black.

I heard that the Sony execs HATED the film, but money talks and it's good to see that it did relatively well. I don't know about a sequel, though... unless it was heavily focused on emulating Silent Hill 2.

What I would like to see is a really good DVD edition... they could at least do that!

Seems like the long run for this film has just ended... accumulating 47 million in the US. We're hoping for more boost in the upcoming releases in Brazil and in Japan for the Worldwide pocket.

on the first week of July, Silent Hill nabbed the #1 spot in the Italian box office, accumulating 800,000+ USD on the weekend tally.

bad news though in Japan, it seems that the movie was not that much anticipated and it only debuted on 5th place on its first week.

The Italian film business thinks that the people hate horror, so they really withhold it from cinemas and video stores. Hopefully this sends a message that those money-grubbing jerks are wrong.

Thats true. When I went on opening day there was little kids in there. They wouldn't shut up. I heard one of them say "thats the bad guy" I think they were talking about the armless creature. Well Im glad this movie did pretty good world wide.
