Spam and the Spamming Spambots which Spam (Read Plz)

Lately, we've had a few spambots which are more sophisticated than what we're used to. Whereas the usual variety posts rambling nonsense or strings of terms they want search engines to index, a couple lately have made completely coherent (though also completely off-topic) posts throughout the forum. You'll know they are spammers, though, because they will link to their products in their signatures, usually.

If you see a spammer like this, click the Report button and let the staff know, of course, but also, do not reply to them.

Why? Because, usually, we don't physically delete posts; we just move them into a hidden forum so that we can reference them later if we have to. This is pretty standard practice on boards like ours. However, we straight-up delete posts made by spambots, because we can't remove the links from their signatures (posting these links so that Google can index them is the only reason they come here at all). If people reply to these spam posts, we have to move the replies away and since these bots tend to post several times, this can create quite a bit of extra work for the staffer taking care of it.

So, when you see a spam post, report it to us and then just ignore them (also, it isn't necessary to report every post a spammer makes--we'll get 'em all!). THX<3

I just wanted to say, on behalf of the staff, thanks to everyone who has kept on top of this as we have asked. The 'bots have been pretty relentless, and it helps that we can identify and eliminate quickly.
