Amazing tool for Extracting data (SH1)

Post by Opcode on Fri Aug 23, 2013 5:56 pm

used this baby for awhile for alot of psx games, sorry if this is in wrong section as i see SH1 doesent have it's own area

anyways what this does is scan the disc image and let you view all textures, play all audio & video from any ps1 game
and extract it into any format you want!

i know their might be some tools somewhere for extracting this stuff but this is incredibly easy and more convienent than command line tools
:pirate:

hope this helps someone out

The SH1 stuff is all contained in the Modding FAQ post: viewtopic.php?f=3321&t=431658&p=7548534#p7548534

I have added a link to that post, thanks.

Amazing tool for Extracting data (SH1)

Post by CharlesM on Wed Jan 08, 2014 7:20 pm

I've written a new files extraction tool for Silent Hill based on the original program by HoRRoR. The source and Windows binary are here:

http://cgfm2.emuviews.com/new/shx-010814.zip

It supports the following versions of the game:

    JP, Full Game (SLPM-86192)
    EU, Full Game (SLES-01514)
Official U.S. PlayStation Magazine Demo Disc #16 (SCUS-94278)
    US, Trial (Demo) Game (SLUS-90050)
    JP, Trial (Demo) Game (SLPM-80363)
    EU, Trial (Demo) Game (SLED-01735)

The demo versions of the game store the files differently, but I've done some research and figured out what the changes are. It is easy to add other versions of the game to the source, I just supported the ones I had.

The program has options to view the filesystem, extract the files, and extract all unused data which comes "between" files and isn't officially part of the game data. Who knows, there could be some interesting things in there.

The earliest version of the game seems to be from the US PlayStation Magazine Demo Disc #16 listed above. I've been writing about the unused pictures, audio, and item names at The Cutting Room Floor, which were obtained using the file extraction program. The wiki page for that research is here:

http://tcrf.net/Proto:Silent_Hill

Hope this tool and information will be useful. Any feedback or suggestions are appreciated.

Awesome! But why not in list - full game USA [SLUS-00707]?

Oops, just a cut and paste mistake. The tool does support the US SLUS-00707 version of the game.

And if there are other versions not listed that people know about, I can try to support them too. These are the only versions of the game I personally know of.

This is error if i'm trying to extract SLUS-00707 retail version (my iso is 100% correct, no errors in iso, extractor error is stable every time, my path in short english characters only - names and located in root of C:/)

tested by me with this versions, extractor works perfect with it:
[19.10.98] OPM 16 [SCUS-94278]
[06.11.98] Silent Hill Trial Edition [SLPM-80363]
[16.12.98] Silent Hill (Trial Version) [SLED-01735]
[16.01.99] Silent Hill [USA][Demo][SLUS-90050]

Was the SILENT file extracted as 2048-byte sectors or 2352-byte sectors? I suspect the latter -- the file should be 80,496,640 bytes.

If it is larger, it's in the other different format. You can either convert the file (most ISO manipulation tools will let you do this), or I suppose I could try supporting 2352-byte sectors natively.

Are there any extracting tools like this for SH2? The only thing google was able to dig u for were 3 broken links to a website taken down in 2005.

My SILENT archive file was extracted with CDmage tool, as i know this is 2352 (wrong/2048? Anyway windows explorer copying from real disk is 2352/2048?). SILENT archive size is 80 476 160 bytes - copied and pasted from windows file info. Different between files and your size is - 20480 bytes. If add this differences as HEX nulls to smaller SILENT archive - no luck anyway.

extracted SILENT archive from original disk with IsoBuster as RAW data (2351 bytes/block), now size is: 92 421 840 bytes - gives me different error

well i know only one tool, that can extract in 2048 - CDRWin 4.0G - only from physical drive. I've calculate end of the file with IsoBuster file properties and with this formula:

SILENT: 64 + 39295 - 1 = 39358
start 64
end 39358

Code: Select all
extracted sectors from start to end with "CD Data - Mode 1 Raw (2352)" - my file size is: 92 421 840 bytes
extracted sectors from start to end with "CD Data - Mode 2 Raw (2352)" - my file size is: 92 421 840 bytes
extracted sectors from start to end with "CD Data - Mode1 (2048)" - my file size is: 80 476 160 bytes
extracted sectors from start to end with "CD Data - Mode2 Form1 (2048)" - my file size is: 80 476 160 bytes
extracted sectors from start to end with "CD Data - Mode2 Mixed (2336)" - my file size is: 91 793 120 bytes

Image

what should i do? What extraction mode is correct? Do you sure this is still my own error? Do i need to extract SLUS_007.07 file with this custom sector settings mode too? i'm little confused about this. thanks

Hmm, interesting. Looks like I'll have to find my game disc, re-rip it, and confirm what's going on. I'm not sure what the problem is anymore. I'll post here with an update when I can find the time to do so.
