Something I just don't get

WTF is up with that hobo? Does he have a shotgun like Rutger Hauer? Why can't he find his own stuff if he's a hobo and knows how Silent Hill works? Is he real?

I'm not sure really, he may be just another manifestation. This is written on SH Wiki

Homer appears to be a former prisoner, perhaps from Ryall State Corrections Facility, the same one as Murphy, because of the shackle rings attached to his clothes much like Murphy's prison jumpsuit. This is further strengthened by his comments regarding the tunnels. He tells Murphy that one has to be like vermin to survive, then he'd be fine "just like old Homer." One escaped prisoner to another, this statement likely gave Murphy a depressing glimpse of what the rest of his future could be reduced to: forgotten, scavenging vagabond, dying alone in the dank underbelly of an unassuming small town.

Which makes me believe he may be a manifestation.

He's the bald guy in the tunnels who tells you to get a coat, food, and a fishing pole. If you give him these things, he opens the tunnels and then turns up dead.

One reason he doesn't get his own stuff like any real Silent Hill inhabitant is that the developers wanted another sidequest and wanted the player to explore a bit. I'm not sure if there's any symbolic reason why Murphy has to get him all of those things, though.

and about what you were wondering why does Murphy has to get him all of those things for him ...tell you what!..maybe that's cus of Murphy's punishment ...you know... when he was in the prison he had to do such a stuff like that ...ordering him to do this... get this ,get that ..you know making him a busy man there in the prison as his own punishment!...its just my thought ^^

That's an interesting thought about having to get people things in prison. Could also be why he looked almost like a prisoner and mentioned being like a rat. And I'm sure he's dead... nobody can take three bullets to the stomach and not at least look up...

Yes, I think he's real too. It could be that the town brought him there to help punish Murphy and then killed him after he was done. Sorry, I shouldn't say punish. I'll go with the wiki article and say that he was there to give Murphy an image of his future.

I don't think it really matters if he's a manifestation or a real person... I share the theory he's there to show Murphy the sad miserable life that awaits him, being a break-out from prison.

Maybe she didn't go to that area of town. Maybe she did notice him and it was never mentioned. Or he could be a manifestation about Murphy's future. The Corinthian is right. It doesn't matter if he exists, just what he reveals to Murphy about himself.

If he is dead, I wonder how he died. There was no blood so I don't think it was a monster. We give him food and a coat so isn't starvation or hypothermia.

I don't like seeing the old man "dead", so I choose not to finish the quest. I don't think he "dies" if you don't finish the quest. I'm pretty sure. I will give him the food and coat, but NO FISHING ROD! >:(

Come to think of it, he probably caught a bad fish. Silent Hill isn't the cleanest place ever

But yeah... if he does die, it's probably more symbolic like discussed earlier. If it's a prediction of Murphy's future, then being dead and nobody caring could be another part of that.
