I posted this in another thread, but I think it deserves its own. There's a ton of enlightening information in here, and a confirmation that it has plenty of story and puzzles for all. I'm just happy that there's still a joke ending and that you really have to think goodly to get it.

Here is part 2 also: http://www.destructoid.com/e3-silent-hi ... 6453.phtml

Hahah just spent a good part of two hours updating the Silent Hill wiki, there in a ton of info, I'm somewhat looking forward to it... and the guys who have worked on it seem to be seriously into the franchise and even know the backlash they have already, you know Silent Hill fans being all cynical and all :D Not sure about the idea of Valtiel being a quest-giver of sorts.....

That was a great read (both parts 1 and 2) I'm really looking forward to the game personally. I think it will be a fun game, and I like the sound of the way the games systems are set up. The sound track kicks a lot of butt too. Looking forward to the game! :D

...in creating our elemental system we found there are two colors that form an undercurrent throughout the franchise: white and red. Every single game, intentional or not, plays very heavily on these themes.

I never noticed that. I don't think anyone else did either. Maybe because we were looking at all the grey, black, orange, blue and green themes? More so in the games that didn't really have anything significantly white or red in them.

I like that you at least made use of some colour theory, but that really is a dumb line in the article. How about "All Silent Hill games have roads featuring heavily in some sections of the levels. Roads are grey with lines painted on them for dividing lanes and such, so in this game we did something with grey and lines".

After reading that, I kinda want the game again. It seems like, if nothing else, it'll be a fun game. I'm not really concerned with it not playing like a "traditional" SH game, if that term could be used. I'm not worried about being scared, especially since I haven't really been scared by a game in ages (not counting honest jump scares which happen due to me dropping my guard or something similar).

That's the way I feel too, @NarooN. Sure I have some qualms about the story and all (and some of the decisions regarding how classes are handled), but I'm genuinely hoping it is fun.

I like fun. Fun is nice. Fun is rare in games nowadays. At least it has been for me.

As long as this has no major tech issues like Downpour, it'll be mine. I love dungeon crawler style games

That's exactly how I feel. It's so hard to find games that are just legitimately fun nowadays.

Same here. While new games are amazing from a tech standpoint, they are laborious

Just to be clear, I know I've been a harsh critic because I really do not like a lot of what I'm seeing from BoM, I enjoyed reading your philosophies on the games design, and what immediately followed that line all is all good game design theory. This article changed my mind about you personally, I like your thinking.

We have yet to see that translate into a trailer that isn't highly questionable yet. The trailers so far seem to have showcased the weaker elements of the title, and if you've got all this awesome fun development you so clearly stand by, show us that.

PBA - I'm not handling that so I don't know much beyond they are working on it.

LX - You are free to criticize but at least pick things you're unhappy about. There absolutely is red and white thematically running through all the lore in the series. You're free to care or not care, but don't act like my statement was ridiculous. You weren't searching for Mauve Chrism and Walter didn't see a Jade Devil.

I lol'd. Going in my sig

I don't think I noticed a lot of white and red references in Downpour. Is there any that you feel comfortable revealing? I do recall that section with the mirror floor and the spinning blades having red and white motifs.
"I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. [laughs] Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched c-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhäuser Gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like [coughs] tears in rain. Time to die."

Downpour was generally (or obviously) centered around the darker blue, greyish tones.
The earlier games actually do feature a lot of red & white in them, especially 3,4,Origins + Homecoming.
Simple Google image search would prove that.

Even various objects in the lore have the red & white colors. The White Chrism and the Crimson Ceremony Book as parts of the rebirth rituals and Assumption of the Holy Mother being a few things. Red Devil. I mean, these colors are all over the place in the games. Many of the objects related to various rituals and whatnot are these colors. To deny that those colors are common is just ludicrous.

Of course they're commonly used colours, but they're commonly used colours everywhere and I think for every example where either or both of them is used in Silent Hill there's a complementary counter example. It just stood out to me as the kind of going out on a ledge statement that was very open to personal interpretation. "...Dumb line..." might be harsh, I'd like to change that to something more like "entirely speculative and absolutely debatable".

I immediately enjoyed that you saw it that way and built some design philosophy around it, because anything done for a reason usually has much more inherent potential to be great.

They're common because they're common in actual religions and rituals and the original teams did their homework. I take a bit of offense at "speculative" considering I'm a primary source on the matter.

But to be clear - I'm not talking about color themes in the games' graphics. I'm talking about the lore notes and the important items you find.

Okay :) I can see that. Leonard's seal, crimson tome, white claudia, aglaophotis in a whitish necklace... And on and on.

I'm sure everyone would rather debate anything else.

Aren't the two pickaxes you find in SH4 red and white? (Despair and Hope, respectively)
