I wonder why people always insist on stating the obvious (that the HDC was flawed) anytime someone talks shit about the fanbase. Everyone knows the HDC was jacked up, and no one in this thread tried to downplay it or state otherwise.

It was also a good point with how even when news of a patch appeared, people still weren't happy lol. At least it's actually getting fixed. This is much better than the game just being abandoned. Would you guys have preferred Bethesda made this port instead? We probably wouldn't get a patch until almost a year later.

I'm sick of cynics. I really am.

People have gotten what they want and they STILL won't shut the hell up about it.

First, as I explained, my post was not asking "why are you guys so mad geez?"

Second, yeah you'd be mad. But if you called up the restaurant and said "my sandwich had no bread" you'd be a lot more likely to get a free sandwich if you were calm than if you screamed at them "HOW COULD YOU SELL ME A SANDWICH WITH NO BREAD SERIOUSLY WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU THAT'S NOT EVEN A SANDWICH."

This made my day, Tomm. No lie.

NarooN wrote:The moment the next SH game gets announced, you'll hear the usual "OMFG SIRNT HIRR IZ DED" drivel yet again.

I can't wait. (The "SIRNT HIRR" thing made me think of Kim Jong Il... lmfao. xD)

I'm just sick of people being total dicks to one another. Calm the fuck down. Effective patches take a while. First, you have to address and file all of the issues people are having... THEN you have to implement the fixes. Depending on the severity of issues, it could take a while. Would you have rather had an announcement three weeks ago? Nope. You'd bitch about that, too. "WHER DA PATCH AT. THEY SED IT RELEAS SOON. WTF TOMM KONAMI Y U NO FIXZ."

Here, they say it'll be released in the coming weeks. Be patient. Go outside and take a walk. Consider human interaction. Tomm is not affiliated with Hijinx. He can't speed up the process of the development. Take your anger elsewhere.

I love cynicism, but it has to be focused so that it can be taken seriously. Being cynical about the validity of the automated response is valid, because it's expressive of the fact that hasn't been enough communication, and being cynical about how effect it will have is valid because, at least the PS3 release, is very, very broken. Being cynical of it not being a "real collection" is utter shit and people should be stoned to death for mentioning it with the same veracity as the release barely working at all.

(EDIT: I was not claiming it was unreasonable to be mad about HD Collection. I was confirming the validity of the message in the OP and lamenting the fact fans refused to believe good news)

With Konami highly absent on the matter until now

This entire thread is ABOUT the Konami response. Yet almost all the initial reactions are "yeah right" "I'll believe it when I see it" "doubtful" etc. I scanned the internet this morning to see if the official announcement had gone out yet, and I found this same reaction to the Customer Support EMail all across the web. Note that the fanbase was going so far as to speculate this was an outdated automated response in order to go on being angry. That's kind of the definition of cynicism, and it isn't constructive.

There are tons of people working hard to get this patch done, to fix your complaints. Yeah, it sucks HD Collection had issues... so you're going to get mad when "Konami" does the right thing? None of this is happening becaues you got ANGRY and PISSED and YELLED about it. It's happening because there were problems that you made known were widespread and important. Negativity/cynicism accomplishes nothing. In fact it makes it harder to fix things because people can just shrug and say "you know that crazy SH fanbase!"

We all know there were issues. But when you GET WHAT YOU WANT (a Konami statement about a patch in progress) ...it's cynical to essentially ignore it, and pretty frustrating for the people who are trying to take care of your complaints.

I think i have the right to behave cynically when i spent my money on a product that was released terribly broken.
I also have the right to be cynical when there's wasn't any official statement from konami (ONE email to ONE customer is hardly official) specially almost a month after the game being released. At this point, anybody would've thought konami wouldn't release anything.
And i also have the right to be ANGRY and PISSED when 2 of the best games in my favorites series have been shamelessly butchered and altered, when they were perfectly fine in the first place.
You got nerve...

If I buy the HD collection, and the disc is wet out of box... I will know who to blame.

PureBlackAura wrote:Ok after reading everything after my latest post .... All I've got to say is that It's not the fans fault that this game is broken in so many places so you can't blame us for our "cynicism" about a patch. By the way has anyone heard if this patch if for both consoles because contrary to what konami believes the Xbox 360 version is broken in several places as well.

Yeah, pretty much this. I have followed the series for thirteen years and spent lots of money on being a fan of it. I've had a website for it nearly as long. It's not like I want to hear bad news. But given the state of things, it's kind of hard to be positive after spending hundreds of dollars in one month (I bought a PS3 just to play these games, so I spend more than $400 overall, hell, I even bought an EXTRA copy of SHHD and the SHD guidebook to give away in a site contest), all I wanted was games that looked nice and didn't lag the whole time, which is what I expect from any game I buy. Additionally, I think people are pessimistic because there ALREADY WAS a patch, and it did nothing.

People have gotten what they want

Well, sort of, but ten years ago, games were released in their final state. I think it's unfair to people who don't have consoles connected to the internet, or don't have high speed internet, or internet at all, to release games that don't work properly. Did those people get what they wanted? And since I already beat all three, my experience with the games was not a good one. First impressions do count, and a month after downpour came out, I doubt I'll want to replay a non-laggy, non-freezing copy, because I was so frustrated with it to begin with.

It's good to hear that the lagging and sync will be fixed, but the other visual problems were pretty ugly, too (SHHD).

Hey Tomm, what's with the fog, by the way? This is an earnest question, I'd like it if it were fixed obviously or whatever, but do you know why it was drawn back in the first place, also the historical society staircase thing? I'm not asking whether the patch is going to fix them, I'm just curious about it, whatever the answer might be, anything you can say about it would be better than the assumption of "they didn't care they wanted your money".

@astro: I'm guessing the fog is due to the differences in hardware between the original consoles and PS3/Xbox. I dount it was purposely made more sparse; it just ended up that way because of different hardware. Regardless, the lack of fog makes the water look like hell.

That doesn't explain differences like the foghorn or the weird TV frame on the SH2 video, I suppose, though.

Mercury wrote:@Yuki and Astro: There's also a time and a place. Is the majority of the fandom "cynical" or bigoted? In my experience--whether it's for or against the new games--yes. But there is also a time and a place. The HD collection, when being compared to the Metal Gear Solid HD Collection, is a total joke. The games were released a decade ago and they covered their seams and had less problems than these supposed improvements. The people here have every reason in the world to be upset and I don't post much but from what I have seen, people are posting legitimate problems instead of "omfg i hate this shit". So to pretty much chalk it up to it all being that by posting that we're cynical in a thread that is entirely Konami's fault is completely wrong to me. Again, he hasn't elaborated but on a base level it's really assholey.

Except here they're saying "we're trying to make a fix"... and instead of people hoping it'll work, they're still complaining. This fanbase is nigh unpleasable. See Tomm's response; Konami officially offers a fix and still fans are complaining about the HD Collection's quality.

Maybe I'm wrong, but I have this theory that things are gonna flip. The old fans have been crazy ever since Silent Hill 1/2, but now that there's an equal amount of new games as there are old, I think the new fans are going to start acting the same way with the old games (i.e. "Silent Hill 2 is a piece of shit compared to Downpour" rather than "I like DP more than SH2 because...").

Dear god, I hope not. It's bad enough dealing with "ALL THE NEW GAMES ARE SHIT", much less wars of which were "shit" versus just "I liked the new ones"...

Tomm, I actually just laughed out loud. Thank you for that.

I'm just sick of people being total dicks to one another. Calm the fuck down.

This, as well. I remember looking at a video about the HD Collection on YouTube and someone said they liked the new voices; someone else replied, their comment beginning with "Listen up, maggot". Hell, people have collected some of the responses to things the fanbase does; I know I did here. I can understand not liking how something looks to be turning out, and I can understand being upset that an updated collection wasn't of the quality it should have been, but the way people are acting seems as if Tomm killed their first-born, not that a company messed up a video game.

Being cynical about the validity of the automated response is valid, because it's expressive of the fact that hasn't been enough communication, and being cynical about how effect it will have is valid because, at least the PS3 release, is very, very broken.

Except there's more than just an automated response as evidence that they're working on something.

You have every right to be upset, but the fact is it is a video game. Tomm admitted that the release was lackluster, but the fact is it has been confirmed they are fixing it. I can't believe you have the gall to say someone involved in the development--someone who's interacting with fans to get opinions and clear up misconceptions--has "nerve" when he's defending himself.

I agree it's not cool of them to have put out a bugged game, but the fact is it's already out there. :/
That being said, Downpour was freezing for you...? I only had some lag here and there, although I was on 360.

And i would've appreciated that had he come in here without the ignorant remarks.

He had no ignorant remarks. He mentioned that the fanbase is cynical even after there has been confirmation of a patch coming. The fact is that this fanbase is extremely negative about almost everything that happened; hell, I think even the mere mention of an HD Collection drew ire.

There has been official confirmation that there is a patch coming to fix the issues. This is not a single email issue any longer.

I've been casually looking around for solid information about it since I got my hands on it, if I haven't found the evidence you're referring to it isn't clear enough. Also, it isn't meant to be open to interpretation and analyzed like the games are, we shouldn't have to come up with theories about it, "a patch is coming to fix the issues" from a trustworthy source (preferably Tomm [since we know he interacts with the community]) should've been the definitive answer to the technical complaints people have from the start.

True, and that's why I've said repeatedly that I hoped it would happen and I would be glad if it happened. I think a little bit of pessimism is warranted in this situation, for reasons I've already stated, though.

Yes, I got many game-breaking issues with Downpour. Framerates going down to nothing and the game totally freezing up, making me restart and lose save data, etc. I can't tell you how many times I rage-quit Downpour because I couldn't deal with the lagging/freezing, and then have to sit through ten minute loading times to restart.

Also the monster sounds really bother me, I remember you (I think it was you anyway, Pyramidface?) mentioning that it was a bug before it released, so it would be cool if you could fix up the sounds, as someone who plays on hard because I've played through the game one-sqillion times, it's really unpleasant to listen to clusters of Lying Figures as they sound like sprinklers. Here's an example of what I'm talking about: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=pl ... 970#t=159s

Oh and the weapon sounds, at least the stuff that's used often like the pistol and shotgun, don't think the chainsaw really matters. The loading times not being sync'd with how the screen blacks out of the menu would be cool too.
