Games good, HD collection bad. Digital Foundry comparison due soon.

Respectable review, and I'm looking forward to seeing what Digital Foundry says. For anyone unfamiliar with what to expect from them, this review of the MGS HDC provides a good example of their processes, though their conclusions for the SH HDC are obviously going to be quite the opposite.

I say, that was rather... lenient.

I can't believe he acknowledges SH2's problems but seems to think SH3 looks better now.
And he prefers the new voice acting? I don't know why people say the original voice acting was that bad.
Sure some of the delivery was kinda awkward but for its time it wasn't bad at all.
Compared to the new voices it sounds like Shakespeare performed by Jesus.
At least the voice actors in SH1 sounded like they barely gave a toss and no directing at all.
With McGlynn on the project there's no excuse. How did she do such a poor job herself?
Granted she was typecasted badly as Mary, but that doesn't excuse such a weak performance.

He didn't say SH3 looks better now, just that this botched version fairs better than that of SH2 thanks to the original SH3 having notably better graphics than the original SH2. As for the new voice acting, my opinion of it is more in line with yours than than his, but there's no accounting for taste.

The old voice acting, in my opinion--ESPECIALLY for Silent Hill 2--was stilted and awkward; it sounded like people reading out their lines rather than real people. I think the new voices, from the clips I've watched online--besides maybe a couple of flubbed lines on Heather's actress's part--are leagues better.

I'd take SH2's new acting any day over the original.

Yeah, defend the Avant Garde notion of acting all you want. I'm not buying it, contrary to popular belief TS didn't do everything for a reason.

Example: Check out the road signs in the original telling you how far everything is. Everything is an unreasonably long distance from each other.

So I'd say the new voice acting in 2 is a home run in my opinion and there's nothing you can do to make me ever to desire listening to James very unenthusiastically mentioning he got a letter.
I am the Third, a master, a sentinel of awakeness.
I hold truth like a torch, shadows flicker before me.
Rapid eyes follow the train of thought, until the silence ends.

It seems Gametrailers has the same issues with the HD Collection too: http://www.gametrailers.com/video/revie ... ill/728715

I've been playing through the collection with the new voices, and I'm pretty unimpressed by them overall but they have their good moments. When James yelled at Laura in the hospital he sounded like he genuinely lost his temper, that was undoubtedly an improvement on the original in the context of that conversation.
