Plus, it's kind of annoying how the time I did watch Toy Story 3 in 3D, they had cleaned the glasses after a previous audience had already used them and my pair was still wet.

They make you guys re-use 3D glasses? I've never been to a theater that did that. Frankly I wouldn't want a used pair, even if they do clean them.

I guess they do since they had a rack of them outside near some other screening spraying them down and wiping them off. I tried watching without them at first, but of course the picture quality was shit so I had to put them on. Can't say I cared for it since it's still unsanitary but I endured. I haven't gone to any other 3D viewings since then and don't really plan to. Regular tickets alone have already gone up in price and I don't see the need to waste any more of it than I have to on 3D.

There are 3 problems on 3D movies:

More demanding of movie technics and more "moving narrative" - better team is required;
More screen needed, since the actual is for 2D - a wider screen is needed to really trick the mind;
3D is needed to see 3D, when you see in 2D, you lost a lot - but we don't have 3D everywhere.

Actual 3D may not last much longer, as the first time. Remember Shark 3D?

The fad will die off eventually. It's gonna take some time, but it will eventually burn out. One other problem is the fact that theaters intentionally leave only a handful of regular, 2D showings trying to encourage more people to buy the more expensive tickets for the 3D showings.

3D's been around for ages. It's not going away, though it may fade in and out of popularity. Part of it is just a gimmick, yes, to get people into theatres; part of it is to add another dimension, though, too. Usually movies that are filmed in 3D--Avatar, for instance--do it quite well, and rather unobtrusively. Since this movie was filmed in it, I expect it'll be pretty well-done.

I think 3D is sort of unnecessary 90% of the time. I hope nothing flies at the screen, that is just annoying in my opinion.

I believe the director said that there are a few moments with things coming toward the camera, but for the most part the 3D's just there for atmosphere, not gimmicks.
